Looking for a Ultrabook with SSD and Higher resolution than 1366x768 any deals going?

Hope this is the right area to post.

I'm looking for a good deal on a Ultrabook.

My needs are under 1.5kg, under $900, SSD (Hybrids Considered), Higher Res than 1366x768, Back lit keyboard, 2nd Gen i3 or higher, Intel HD3000 or higher, 4+ hours of actualy battery use.

No brand loyalty each offering will be evaluated on it's merits.

Cheers for any help or suggestions :)

  • Oh and I've already seen those 2 Acer S3 deals, I've been eyeing them off for several days, but without being able to use one in person I'm not willing to purchase as there are a number of complaints about the keyboard, and they don't have back lighting :(

Here's a $950 one but no ssd. Very hard to find those requirements for $900.

      Even better 2nd Gen i5, 4gb, 128gb SSD, 1600x900 Under $900 AUD
I read Samsungs warranty conditions first though, and they seemed very strict Restricted to the Conti USA etc.
Too bad the series 9 look awesome.

      • There was a international clause to the Samsung warranty which wasn't on the retailers site, seems they do offer warranty on notebooks but the wording in my opinion is not something I would rely on.

  • your dreaming under $900 with a higher res screen. www.flingshot.com.au has an asus but in pink

    • That doesn't have a backlit keyboard, still a good price.

  • actually checkout dell factory outlet. has some xps models which meet your specs if you dont mind refurb

    • Had a look but the ones with 1600x900 displays didn't have a ssd. Looks like the OP has to give up on one of the requirements or extend the budget.

      • Never!

    • There are those 12.5" 1080 models but I think I'd prefer 1600x900 at that screen size.

  • Do I really need higher res than 1366x768 if I'm not gaming or watching movies?

I guess you can compare it to phones. You don't need a higher res, but it does look better. For word documents, I guess it makes things a bit more easier.

If you ring dell today and they will match that price.

As others said your requirements are a little steep for your price range.

  • I like the Dell XPS13 but I really think they could be a bit more $ competitive, I recently tried getting them down on another laptop and they barely budged but spec for spec there was almost a $300 gap with Asus.

    Anyway ordered a UX32 Zenbook 3rd gen i5, 1600x900, GT620m, 4gb ram, 1.4kg, backlit keyboard, widi, 24gb+500gb Hybrid drive.

    • Yeah it's skimping with a hybrid drive but I'll see how it goes, 128GB wouldn't have cut it anyway.

    • How much and where did you get it from?

        $914 Del

I called to double check the screen res and was reassured.

Also they are on the ASUS retailers list.

        • Thanks mate, will check it out

        • wow digitalstar are still kicking around, i remember i bought a custom made laptop from them over 10 years ago and i still have that laptop.

        • :( I want a custom laptop

        • :( Sad news received laptop today screen is 1366x768 not 1600x900 as advertised.

Seeing if I can get a satisfactory resolution now.

Good place to deal with. Check out whirlpool.net for reviews etc.

Can upgrade the CPU for $149 and add a 500GB HDD if the 128GB SSD isnt big enough for $99. Graphics is decent for a laptop huge screen and gets roughly 4-6 hours use from the battery.

Doesnt have a backlit keyboard though (or Windows - but assumed you had your own copy), but do you need it that much for something like this?

Plus you get a full HD screen :)
