Foldable Bench + Weights!

I live in an apartment, so I'm limited in space. Gym membership are ridiculously expensive so I want to get myself some sort bare bone gym.

I was thinking a bench + weights (including barbell and dumbbell) should be good enough for the time being. Maybe I need a mat also since I can't really drop the weights on my wooden floor … Where/how much would those mats be?

Is this good? Shipping to me is $39.28.

  • I bought some rubber squares that lock together from Clark Rubber and it cost about $120 to cover an area just big enough for my bench and weights. If you wanted to go cheaper you could always just put some old carpet instead.

What are you planning on using the barbell for? There is no rack included with that package so you can't really use it for squats or bench press with the barbell (although dumbbell press would be possible). Living in an apartment with wooden floors I'm assuming deadlifts wouldn't be popular with your neighbours either due to the noise of constantly putting the weights back on the floor. You will probably want a little more weight too otherwise you will have to move the weights between bar and dumbbells during your workout.

It's not a bad price for the brand but if you are just after bare essentials you will do much better on gumtree or ebay.

  • Well, I don't really need the bar at the moment (since as you said, no rack) but since it comes with it, why not. Maybe one day I'll move to someplace I'll be able to get some racks.

  • In that case I guess it's fine with 50kg of weight.
