Mid-range Android phones - which to choose?

Hi OzBargain,

Stuck with another dilemma regarding which smartphone I should buy.
It's a toss-up between a few phones which are:

  • Sony Xperia Sola
  • Sony Xperia P
  • Motorola Razr V
  • Huawei Ascend G330D
  • Huawei Ascend G500
  • ZTE v970 Grand X
  • UMI X1

I made a table comparing all their specs available here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60957767/Phone.pdf
which is based off prices from pandawill, ozbargain deals, and etotalk.

I am considering either the Razr V or the X1 because they seem to tick the most boxes. What do you guys think?

I can post the links if you guys want to check the phones out for yourselves.

Cheers :)

EDIT: these phones are around the $160 - almost $300 range so if you know any alternatives that would be great!

If you're going to spend almost $300, I'd recommend the Nexus 4 8GB for another $70. Obliterates these phones in cpu and gpu specs, 2x ram. Apart from no removable battery and micro sd slot, it beats the specs of all these phones. Has a solid premium feel to it and looks fantastic. Being a Nexus phone is has the latest version of Android and you get updates first.

It does cost a bit more, but it's easily worth it and much more "future proof"

    • Definitely taken into consideration, especially with all the security that there will be updates regularly.

Yes the specs are much better, but what's putting me off is that if I spend almost $400 on a phone, I want to make sure that it lasts at least for a few years. The Nexus doesn't have 4G AFAIK, so I'm just a little worried that in a few years time I'll have to buy another pricey phone that has it.
Minor gripes with the lack of microSD slot too :S.

Maybe I should just wait a while and see if things drop?

  • Is second hand an option? With all these 1080P phones coming it you will easily pickup a cheap One X off gumtree, a lot of them go on there now for the $300 mark with a bit of haggling.. If you can wait a month or so you'll snag them even cheaper.

  • Have you forgotten about HTC?
I bought the HTC X for $230 on eBay, unlocked!
It's a quick dual core hamburger with the lot.

    • Aren't they quad core Tegra 3? Or maybe you grabbed the One XL with LTE which is even better.

    • It sounds awesome at the price you mentioned!
If I could get at the same price, I'd definitely grab one.

  • Not a fan of the RAZR V due to the limited space for apps (no Apps2SD without rooting)
Never heard of UMI where's that from? India?
