  • Price? Requirements? If it's urgent, just get one of those evaporative cooling fan first? They are quite affordable.

  • Sam's Warehouse has one (3.2kW 12000BTU) for $369 at the moment, down from $399 (Aussie Air brand I think it was). I got a Mistral from Bunnings for $399 last year. Not sure of the specs of the Mistral one though.

  • Kcyw thanks for you reply- i will look into the evaporative cooling fans- if they work well. Yes need it urgently.

AntMan76 does the Mistral one work well? And did you find it easy to set up?

    Thanks

    Raz

  • Hi Raz. Yeah the Mistral works great. You will need to fabricate a section for the exhaust to go into your window cause it doesnt come with a window kit. The book says it does but it doesnt according to Mistral themselves, unless its since changed.

Not sure which others do come with the window kit.

  • Watch the evaporative AC unless you live in a dry climate like the outback. they raise humidity in the room. Look at reverse cycle only to reduce humidity.

Recently bought at unit from deals direct - yep shock horror, and its reverse cycle HEATING and COOLING so that suits for both summer and winter and it comes with a window kit. Is working well. But like all RC air-conditioners it does require emptying a tray when it gets full - now it has an alarm and shuts down the AC if this gets full. After emptying it then its all systems go again. You can also attach - you supply - a hose for the water to be extracted outside - I haven't yet done that.

as for urgency it arrived 2 days after ordering by courier.

    • Seems good. What is the function of the window unit? There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the window fly net, will that be a problem and how quickly does the air conditioner cool the room?
BTW, the price now seems to have gone up to $349 and it's also out of stock.

      • The one at Sams Warehouse is now $349 in the latest catalogue if you decide to go that way.

      • Yep its sold out - and I wanted one for the FILaw . I have had no trouble with flyscreen the air just passes thru. This maybe a problem with the water hose if you fit that.

Cooling of the room is fine BUT how long is a piece of string - ie it will depend on room size. this is a masterbedroom size probably bigger than most found in current sized houses (house is 35 years old).

Sams unit would be more powerful, (12KBTU vs 9K BTU) but trade off is it has no R/C heating

  • bump!

had to take my Mistral back to bunnings as they catch on fire and were recalled. I now need another portable air-con, any ideas where to get one ??

    cheers :)

    • Well u could buy mine…. It's a high quality European DeLonghi(sp?) only used a few occasions one summer to cool our babies room on the really hot days. It's been in the shed in storage for the last 18 months.

It cost 850, has a window kit, and I would sell it for 550. It's a 3kw cooling unit. Be aware the cheap units cost a fortune to run.

Probably not worth shipping any where so if you happen to be in Adelaide that's where I am.

      • skysurfer, just wondering is your unit still available for sale? What's the model number and how much do you want it now?

    • Yeah I referred you onto that one too. Look at the bright side. Almost 12 months use and you return it for a full refund. Laughing! I got a few years use of it and took it back for a full refund of my purchase price. Free use of a portable air con aint too bad. Just glad it didn't catch fire although it only happened in one case. It was great timing too cause I was trying to source some ducting to replace the splitting duct that came with the unit.

Now going with a split system instead.
