Help Finding New TV

Hello everyone

Well, it's time to purchase a new tv, and have saved for some time to do so. I'm looking for a screen size between 42 and 50 inches. I also prefer to spend the money to get an LED tv. 3D is not a must, but would be good just to have a play with when I get the TV. I have looked and selected a few models within my budget (up to around 900), however unfortunately I don't know that much about TVs. Could someone please look at these choices and comment on which is best (in therms of both quality and value)or recommend a different tv altogether, perhaps a bit bigger, so long as it is still in my price range?

Currently looking at:
Panasonic 42" VIErA THL42ET5A LED LCD Television
http://www.videopro.com.au/p-4843-panasonic-42-viera-thl42et…

LG 42" 42LM6410 3D LED LCD TV
http://www.videopro.com.au/p-5270-lg-42-42lm6410-3d-led-lcd-…

Oh, also, despite spending waaaaay too much time on ozbargain, I am still a snob for TV brands and can only bring myself to purchase from the bigger brands.
Any response it much appreciated
Thanks

I would recommend you look into Samsung range and pick anything in your budget…….( series 6 onwards)

  • A few things:

That LG TV was on sale from Hardly Normal for $648 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/94146 ) as well as other places - so I'd be looking for lower prices.

As far as LED is concerned, there are edge illumination and back/zoned illumination. The first gives a thinner set, but the second gives high contrast ratio - worth checking on any set you look at.

Finally, the DLNA capability, it terms of what codecs are supported and how user friend it is is important.

Of the two, from personal preference I'd get the LG. Check the reviews on avforums as well.
