Freight companies that will purchase on behalf of the customer then ship to destination

I am interested in purchasing an item in Queensland. I'm in Sydney and the shop won't do any of the usual credit card, postal note etc payments and send the item to me. No store transfers are allowed (even if the purchaser is willing to pay shipment from one store to another). The reason, I'm told, is previous issues with fraud. It's now a company policy that mail order etc is unavailable, no matter how frequent a customer a person is.

The local store says the only way that they know of for customers to purchase at their stores if they are unable to pick up is to get a freight company to do the legwork for the customer. Does anyone know of a good freight company that would charge me direct to go to the store, purchase on my behalf and ship to me? Also what prices they charge? The item is not fragile (just a limited fashion item) and would probably fit a 30cm x 30cm x 15cm box.

Thanks in advance.

  • What you could do is post a task on a service like Airtasker. Pay costs plus whatever fee on top of that you think the person should be paid.

    • Thanks. I'll take a look. At this point a courier company is their bottom line but maybe this would work. I haven't heard of Airtasker so it's certainly worth a look. Thank you.

  • Hi Miss Dior. I'm sorry to hear your predicament. How annoying in this day and age of internet shopping and all the shipping activity that goes with it. I'd be telling that store to shove their policy where the sun don't shine.

BUT, if you really absolutely have to have it, perhaps a friendly and trustworthy banana-bending ozbargainer might be able to help. I know, I know, "trustworthy" and "queensland" don't really play well together, but it might be worth a shot anyway.

    • I know, "trustworthy" and "queensland" don't really play well together,

Scuse me? We're not all named Campbell Newman, you know ….. bit rude!!!!

      • Settle down, twas merely a bit of lighthearted ribbing.

  • Miss Dior, whereabouts is the store? I'm happy to help, if I can.

    • It's at Harbour Town on the Gold Coast. Thank you in advance.

      • Ah, nowhere near there sorry

        • Thank you anyway for the thought. Very kind of you.

  • Maybe just send an oz post money order along with a letter - "Here's payment for x, please post the item to…" They already have their money order (can't be cheated with one of those) and they probably go to the PO every day to collect mail anyway.

  • Yes, I would have thought so, but "No" is the answer. That is what is so frustrating.

    • Yeah, I meant to just not take no for an answer - just send the note saying here's your money - here's my address - thank you. But you're probably right - best not to risk it.

There's not many things for sale that can't be found elsewhere. Have you tried a web search using quote marks and a $ symbol, just like this:

      "item name here" + $

And select only Australian pages in the search engine if you can.

      • Yes I did try that, but unfortunately it's end of line so in limited supply. Of course, it's also at clearance price so they are very much in the driver's seat. I only found out about the courier "loophole" via a local store at which I am a regular customer and even they couldn't work around the policy. Thank you for the suggestion.
