  • I imagine this price MAY drop further as the Fitbit Flex gets closer to launch…

  • +1

    Yeah waiting on flex

    • same waiting on flex

I did hear that the price will drop when flex comes out (In the US). On some forums, expectation is price drop below $50 but we would have to wait and see in April … 1 more month guys

The flex doesn't have a display. I think the One is the better device.

        • I think the convenience of carrying it at all times on your wrist is worth quite a bit…

But in any case it is worth waiting for the Flex even if you want a One as it will surely drop in price.

If you want to try the concept, you can get smartphone apps to do the same thing.

    • ^. i tried sleep cycle but since it tracked movement, i dont thik that will work for my case with 2 people on the same bed

  • Got a Fitbit One about a month ago and love it.
Amazing how accurate it is. Even the sleep tracking works quite well.

  • "The One™ doesn’t nap, even when you do. Slip it into your wrist band at night, and it’ll measure your sleep cycle. Once the data syncs, graphs on your dashboard will reveal how long you slept and the number of times you woke up, giving you a sleep quality score. Over "

—> will the monitoring result got affected if 2 people sleeps in the same bed? (from other movements, etc)

    • +1

Or 3 people in the same bed ;)

    • The One has two settings for sensitivity for sleep monitoring.
The default appears to be pretty accurate. It hasn't ever failed to log when I have woken up and remembered it (although it does show me waking occasionally when I don't remember).
The extra sensitive is too sensitive for my use, and it could detect a bed mate stirring, I think.

      • we do wake up without even knowing it. You can be up for up to a minute without even realising it

I got one for the wife for Christmas and she has been using it daily since. I guess these kind of devices are all about making you more aware of physical activity you are doing and food you are eating. Once she gets home the device wirelessly syncs automatically with the computer. If you log your daily food in the system, then it will show you in real time if you need to walk more or if you can have some more to eat. You can log food/log non-walking exercises during the day through their website/app. Losing weight or whatever your goal is made simple: eat less calories than you burn.

One downside is that Fitbit uses a US database when entering food. That leaves a lot of Australian products off the list and requires manually looking up calorie information.

These fitness devices are only going to get better. Some will take blood oxygen, read your heartrate, etc. Right now it's useful for exercise related things but in the future it could work as a real time "black box" which could make it easier/more accurate to get your health checked by healthcare professionals.

The food database is woeful, but it is very easy to add your own foods and easily access your custom foods.
It can also integrate with myfitnesspal, which I don't use, but has the best AU food database of the mobile apps IMHO.
The metric customisation is a bit hit and miss too. It appears to store values in imperial units, but will display in metric. So occasionally I will enter a weight in kilos that gets rounded from .6 to .7 when I look at the graph. No big deal, but surprising that the software doesn't handle metric natively.
If also calculates food in calories and doesn't seem to know what a kilojoule is.
Overall, I like it much better than a traditional pedometer. I find myself more motivated to walk rather than drive, and am keeping to a healthier diet. So it is expensive compared to the cheaper alternatives, but it delivers better benefits.

Solution to food database: Log your food through myfitnesspal app/website, which has much better database including most of the aussie markets products (Coles, woolies etc)

Been using it for 2 weeks now (got it for $95 from flingshot, super happy with their service 1 day delivery to tassie)

        Problem solved !

        • Does myfitnesspal integrate/sync into the Fitbit dashboard? Or is it a matter of just counting myfitnesspal and then manually adding it in the Fitbit dashboard?

        • +1

I think I read somewhere that it integrates.

          Check out http://www.myfitnesspal.com/help/section/65-fitbit-integrati…

        • Looks like it integrates. Of note though is this:

Connect your Fitbit Ultra to MyFitnessPal account to automatically adjust your daily net calorie goal and import the data measured by your tracker

Can't really tell if this is a 2-way sync process (with food info going from MyFitnessPal TO Fitbit) or if it's just sending the Fitbit tracker info over to the MyFitnessPal site… Anyone use this kind of process? I'm interested myself…

        • I don't see anyway to import myfitnesspal data into fitbit.
I think you can use myfitnesspal as an alternative 'front end' to some fitbit collected data.

    • adding this gadget to my Want list after your review :)

funny review about sleep cycle apps in appstore.
For about a month, I loved this app. It made me feel that I was getting a great night's sleep, and it was nice being able to see that chart of my sleep cycle.
But one night, I decided to test if my new love was truly using my data, and I simply placed the phone on my bedside table instead of my bed.
The scene to which I woke up was horrifying.
I picked up the phone expecting a flat line across reflecting the movement it never felt, but this was not the case.It said my sleep was full of fake dips and dives as though it were in bed with me. It was full of fake quality ratings as if it actually knew me. That's when I realized that the past month had been a sham… It was nothing short of heartbreaking.

    • but you're not talking about the FitBit One here are you?

      • sleep cycle apps in appstore, ios application to track your sleep cycle and wake you up when you ready

        • Damn I got one of those recently and have been amazed by how it does it all :( turns out, it's another one of those fake apps ;(

  • love the idea

  • Only issue is as far as I can see no music

  • A got a Jawbone UP which is similar and its great. I think having it on your wrist is well worth it. The Flex looks good.

  • Great little device. Bought one from Slingshot.com.au a few weeks ago for $95 delivered (after using a $10 voucher listed here on OZB)

My gf sleeps with it on her wrist, and clipped onto the middle of her bra (between the fun bags) during the day.

Her sister has now ordered one too.

  • Love my fitbit one. Bought it from harvey Norman for $95.. Told the salesperson I had seen them online for that price and had no trouble getting him to match…
My fitnesspal is better for logging your food, and syncs with the fitbit :)
