Water Containers

Anybody know where I can get a 10 litre water container in Perth, WA. Would be used to store rainwater so would like it be decent quality/reusable and BPA free.

Some opinions on reusing this bottle for a few months would be appreciated. Is it harmful for our health?

  • Kmart sells water containers in the camping section, or any Ray's/BCF/Anaconda. You might struggle to find a BPA free one, though, or at least one that mentions whether it is or isn't.
The trouble with re-using the kind you linked, and other mineral water containers, is they are typically very light duty construction, so will not stand up to ongoing repeated use.
All plastic water carriers will eventually degrade in sunlight, becoming brittle, but the heavy duty ones in camping stores should last some years.
Can I ask what it is for? 10L is pretty small to collect any meaningful rainwater - is it to top up a fish tank or something?

    • +1

It's for a friend. He has a rainwater tank that is around 15 meters from the house. He rather just buy a couple of water containers so he doesn't have to constantly walk to fill the water jugs and bottles in his house.

It's more of a convenience thing. It wouldn't be stored in the sunlight, just on a bench in the kitchen.

      • Also try Bunnings etc, they have a heap

I don't think BPA should be much of an issue unless the plastic is polycarbonate (think thin, stiff, see through plastic) and even then I believe that in general usage BPA would only leach if you were to fill the bottle with boiling water. …….I'm not an expert though and don't wish to provide any false comfort.
