  • Through my experience they are good/great, just buy the meals before hand if it is a long enough trip.

The only confronting/differing thing is LCCT it is called Low Cost Carrier Terminal for a reason, oh also the epic walks from the terminal doors to the plane on the tar mat (can be very hot and long walk, but very much manageable).

Apart from that the service is pleasant (better than Jetstar), the food is nice (better than qantas), enough room in seats (more than virgin), and 9/10 times the plane wont be full so when you take off just move yourself to a entirely empty row but don't ask the hostess because they won't let you (you would have to pay more prior flight)

    • Thank you for sharing.I am taking my kids which 5yrs old & 18months,so I hope its will be fine isnt it?Btw do you know how much for luggage? How about the quality of airplane? Coz I watched too much the series of Air crash investigation :-D and http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g293925-i8433-k57630…

      • The quality of the air planes are just as good as the other airlines. I've flown with them 5 times to various destinations and am yet to have a rough landing also.

  • I am flying that route on AirAsia in July.
I have previously used them for short flights, and they are the best of the super budget airlines, in my opinion.
I've flown Jetstar, Virgin, Ryanair, Scoot and Tiger for comparison.

  • Hi, I would strongly recommend Airasia. They are the best of all the Budget airlines. We have been travelling with them conuntless times , and always are happy with them. 99 % on time and quite often much early departs once the passages are full. They are very efficient for this as they want to achieve and maintain 100% on time . The meal is good. But Donnot expect too much from their inner services especially from their air-hostesses. One thing counts their fares are comparatively cheaper. Go with them , it won't be wrong.

    • Can I bring the food outside?
Have you try the rounte Sydney -HCM? 1.5hr is that enough to stopover??

      • I'd suggest a bit longer layover than that especially considering you have kids. Go for 3-4 hours instead.

        • How do I go for 3-4hrs layover?

        • Depends if you book it all as one ticket or separately. If making a booking Aus to KL and then another booking KL to Vietnam just choose the schedule that allows a longer layover. If making all flights in one booking just go with the schedule they offer. You can read about the difference here.

  • Air Asia is great - you can do addon and get entertainment pack, and there wont be any different , its same as you traveling in another air line, but low cost,, but as Chongy288 mentioned pre order your meals.. however its same price even you buy when you buy in flight

  • I've flown with aa before . Great service and their planes seem 5o be newish. Their prices are great too. I've just booked Syd to HCM for 738$ bargain considering the direct flights with Qantas and VN air is asking 1300$ including all the stupid fees !

    • Good on you. Have fun in VN.

  • You'll be fine - enjoy.

  • I flew Air Asia last year to go to KL Malaysia. It was a pleasant flight. both ways. no problem at all. I paid for hot meals when booking the flight tickets. But also bought extra food on board. there were lots of choices when pre-booking your meals. Also paid extra for the comfort kit, one way, obviously as you can keep the blanket / pillow/ eye mask stuff. I saw some ppl left them behind though, they must have paid for them on their return flight too. without the blanket I would have been pretty cold. I didn't pay extra for the entertainment tablet, cos I had my own books & magazines to read & my own iPod for music. Paid extra for luggage as I was away for a week. Flight attendants were attentive and efficient. no problem with my seat either (think they charged me extra for selecting my own seat) On arrival at KL it was easy to get to KL Sentral (train station) I prepaid a coach ticket when booking the flights. On the way back, I went to KL Sentral but took the train instead. however, the train stop somewhere and everybody have to change to coach anyway (no extra cost, just the fact that you gotta drag your luggage etc and go outside etc it wasn't too far with escalators ) I paid $340 for return Syd to KL, including all the above mentioned extras. it was an amazing bargain!! very happy. much much much much better than tiger air or jetstar!

    • thank so much for your advice.I booked through Ảir asia, ít cost a bit over $2k for me & my kids.

hi- have flown with airasia multiple times since my kids were babies. No issue at all- the only tip I have is this- if you dont pre book the entertainment unit you will NOT be able to buy one on board as they are all pre allocated, It only has a couple of kids movies on it but for $10 ish- well worth the investment - OH and be aware- they only provide inear headphones- completely USELESS for kids (too big to fit into little ears) so remember to bring along a cheap pair of over ear headphones for the kids…kmart has some for $5. …re blanket- it can get chilly- pack one yourself or make sure the kids have a jacket in the handluggage…and a layover of 1.5 hrs is WAY too short- you will NOT clear immigration in that time - the queues are really long- if you cant change your time- take ONLY handluggage…then you can bypass the immigration queue….and dont forget you need visas for vietnam…have fun!

    • i have a flight with AA to Vietnam in june, are you saying that you have to get your luggage and then check in again for the connecting flight? ie, syd > KUL > VN ? dont they just move it from one plan to the next? =(

      • If you have bought it as one ticket your luggage goes straight through to the plane - at least that's what happened with me to and from Phuket.

        • yup, purchased as a ticket from syd to VN. Thanks for the info, no i dont have to worry so much about time going though customs as the layover is about 2 hours.

    • so íts better stop over around 3-4 hours?

  • everyone can try.

  • if you have purchased the "fly thru" ticket- ie bought it as one ticket SYD- VN then you wont have to collect luggage BUT you still have to clear immigration in KL. This will take some time- the queues can be horrid…up to 1.5 hrs to be cleared…so make sure you have checked in online for the onward flight and have printed your boarding passes….if your flight is late and you see the q is long - if you turn around and face the back wall in immigration there is a "visa on arrival" desk- they can also clear you through immigration and cut down the time- you just have to smile sweetly and show the onward tickets…

i just returned from KL with Air Asia. I really liked the airline. also flew with them HK - KL

my advice for flying with them-
    pre-order the samsung galaxy tablets.
pre-order your meals. -you can buy on the flight but they can run out.
Don't order the kids meals. they are horrid. -mystery meat hotdogs. my kids wouldn't touch the 12 we pre-ordered for the return trip.
Take snacks with you. (you're not allowed to bring water/drinks on board due to air safety)
take some cash to buy drinks on the plane. $5 gets you 3 500ml bottles of water.
buy your duty free when you are leaving KL. 20% cheaper than Aus

You really need to order the tablet when you book the ticket. I booked my tickets back in june 2012. I went to the air asia office at KL sentral on saturday night to book the tablet for the flight on sunday and the tablets had already been booked out.

    • can we use wifi on my own ipad?

      • don't know.
        can't say definitely no.

        but doubt it.

      • No wifi on the flight. There is free wifi in KL airport though.

  • I booked the tickets but wonder 1.55 hr for transit is that enough?
