Looking at GraysOnline Auctions any advice would be good

I am looking at buying large kitchen appliances in particular dishwasher and maybe a wall oven. I am not sure how Grays online auctions work, so would appreciate any advice to help me win at a reasonable price. thanks

  • Gray's work the same as all auctions, highest price wins. The only thing I don't like about Gray's is that the nominated closing time isn't necessarily so, if people are still bidding it stays open. If they have more than 1 of an item then the top bids win ( say 10 of the same thing then top ten bids win, could be the same person bids top and wants 10 then they will win them all at that highest bid). Biggest thing to watch when bidding is to allow for the fee Gray's charge on top of winning bid, normally 10-15%, plus the delivery charge. I have bought from Gray's in the past and delivery is reliable.

  • Ok so if the closing time keeps changing then the bidding could go on for an hour or more with no cut off?? So really hard to get a good price if more than one person wants the item.. mmm, so is there a strategy of any kind that helps? thanks

    • i have never bought anything on greysonline and the time has changed

  • +1

They have a system called going going gone. If there is a bid in the last ten minutes it goes for another 10 minutes. My only hint ,as such , is put in what you are willing to pay ASAP if you have two people who are willing to pay say $10 whoever gets in first wins at that bid.

    • I agree. Grays has taken all the fun out of sniping. You might as well set your autobid (taking into account the large buyers premium) and forget.
