And before your one week pass ends they will hassle you to death and make you feel very uncomfortable in order to get you to join. When I tried this out they even wanted my cc details before I could train.

Just say you are an oversea traveler.

    • they will hassle you to death

the contract says they keep your first born…

Negs are fair if they warn about dodgy business practices. I have twice had to threaten to sue fitness first to get out of 'casual non binding' agreements for my wife and a friend.

The best trick they do is 'I am not authorized to cancel your agreement, only a manager is' followed by either 'unfortunately the manager is out' or 'you can book a one hour meeting to discuss why you have failed to reach your goal next Thursday when the manager is in.

    Shit company, shit business practices.

    Nothing personal op.

    • What's a casual non binding agreement? And can you elaborate more on the threatening to sue, sounds interesting.

    • Im totally not into gyms, and im only just reading all the negative things people have to say about Fitness First.
Ive written more info lower down the page.
Im now thinking it was a bad choice to join but i can honestly say ive had nothing but positive experiences since ive been there for the three days now..

      • since ive been there for the three days now..

lol, 3 days, try cancelling your membership and see how you go.

        • Hmmmm, ok , This is sounding like a nightmare now..

Yeah worst gym. seriously if you work there how do you get the balls to treat people like that?

  • yeah tend to agree with the above, they are a bit dodgey like that, the problem is that they market at people who are not likely to stay. also op must be rep the way vie wrote the title, could have clearly written fitness first but chose not too.

edit - when i say 'market' i really mean pressure. especially overweight people that have no interest in a gym membership. the second they sign them up and the walk away they sit there making fun of them.

  • I wouldn't touch these guys with a 5ft pole. Most gyms will have a free trial system before laying down some cash. At least other gyms have some moral fiber.

    Also not a bargain.
Is impossible to walk thru the city without being hassled by bloody fitness first reps for a "free" trail

I'm currently a member at FF and I approached a FF rep on the street that was handing out guest passes, hoping to get a few for my mates. The rep already knowing that I was a member asks for my number and since then they've hammered me with calls and SMS's asking me to join…

Rokkin. This is exactly what i do.
I know my bank manager and speak to her on a monthly basis even if its just to say hello.
Common sense is a great gift. Sadly some people dont have it.
I try and record conversations on my iphone for future reference..

      • which is illegal.

        • -2

Not if you tell then that your recording the conversation ,,,,,

        • it might be illegal is some circumstance but not all. plus your unlikely to get prosecuted for it.

Hey guys, Im not a rep, and im not into gyms.
I have been on a health kick since coming back from Over seas and training during the afternoons after work running and riding my bike. Now that the crap weather has been hitting Sydney I looked at different gyms to joins just for that reason. I went to the FF gym close to my place (amongst others) to check it out and they seemed cool to my needs, I only wanted 6 months membership. All the others only offered 12 and 18 month plans with Joining Fees. FF rep was ok to offer me monthly membership at $94 per month (with no joining fee) at fort nightly direct debit payments. The rep told me that cancellation was a (2 fortnightly) in advance notification which is clearly written on my contract printout that he gave me. Ive been going there for three days now and have seen or experienced NO problems with staff or equipment. Ive found the staff to be VERY friendly and helpful so far. Each time i have arrived they always say hello and goodby when ever i leave (even if i haven't made eye contact) …..
I didnt google Fitness First before i joined and im only now reading all the negative comments on the net. I know that ive only been a member for three days now and its still early days but i can honestly say that i havent seen or experienced any problems since joining.

    Cheers

You don't sound like a casual passerby. Frankly, you sound like a REP.

        Hmm, ok ,
Fukk, im now regretting posting this link.
Im sorry i posted this now..

Im just posting my experience and saying im happy with joining the fitness club.
Im also respecting other peoples negative comments.
          <MOD> Removed foul language.
I recorded the conversation with the rep before joining. What more can i do to prove what he said for me to join.
Im happy with the equipment. I dont need (or want) rockapes telling me what to do. and the staff are polite.
This is all i can say so far.

Lets hope when i want to leave it wont be as bad as the other crap people have to experience…

    • $94 per month?!? WOW. dude, they ripped you off and you have no idea.

      • Wow, I paid $600 a year in a regional area an d thought that was too expensive.

      • $94 pp/m was the best and cheapest option for me as i can only use tyhe gym for the next 4-6 months. If i go overseas in 4 months time then ive wasted 2 months of $ worth. The $96 is a month to month price.
If as you say i got ripped off then please let me know of a gym thats close to Homebush Bay/ Newington and has a month to month membership option and ill gladly change gyms.
I did prefer Anytime fitness but they only do 12mth memberships. Would have been perfect because there was one right next to work and another here in Newington.
