The 14th version of the Gel-Nimbus showcases more of Asics pioneering technology. The guidance line helps to guide the foot from heel to strike to toe off in an anatomically efficient position. By optimizing the natural power generated by the foot and reducing lost energy the Gel Nimbus 14 improves efficiency for uncompromised performance on the move.

Features and benefits:

The Impact Guidance System enhances the foot's natural gait from heel strike to toe-off improving the efficiency and comfort of your foot-strike and movement. With Guidance Line technology a vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency.

With rearfoot and forefoot GEL cushioning systems employed it attenuates shock during impact and toe-off phases allowing movement in multiple planes as the foot transitions through the gait cycle.

The ComforDry sockliner provides the optimum cushioning performance that creates a cooler, drier and healthier shoe environment. The use of a discrete eyelet improves upper fit whilst reducing possible irritation stage whilst asymmetrical lacing creates an anatomically correct lacing environment that reduces potential for irritation and provides improved comfort and fit.

The Solyte midsole is a proprietary cushioning material that provides an exceptionally lightweight midsole with excellent bounce-back and durability. DuoMax is an ASICS proprietary system consisting of two or more different density midsole materials, designed to help correct the degree and velocity of pronation.

A Personal Heel Fit (PHF) combines 2 layers of memory foam lining the collar to mould to the athlete's heel, creating a personalised fit.

Biomorphic Fit technology allows the upper of the shoe to move in harmony with the foot, giving more comfort while in motion. This fit means the shoe material does not bunch, reducing the risk of blisters or irritation.

  • How are these different to the Kayano ?

  • These are ok for $147 AUD delivered. They sell for a ridiculous price down here.

    http://www.startfitness.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID…

  • The Kayano are the top of the range in Asics Structured range and the Nimbus are the top of the range Asics Neutral Shoe.

    • Thanks

This means that the Kayanos are recommended for overpronators (feet bend inwards when running, generally speaking), whereas the Nimbus are recommended for underpronators (feet bend outwards when running). Whether you overpronate or underpronate will depend on whether you have high-arched feet or are flat-footed.

I have a pair of these, and can vouch for how awesome they are! You feel light as a feather, and they will correct poor running posture (or at least, you wont get injuries running long distances in these with poor posture)

AHHH No i just brought my first pair of Kayano from startfitness hoping it will solve my shoes wearing out on the outside… I thought I read every post about Kayano and they say it is great for running (which is my intent) and nothing about foot type.. clearly I am in need of Nimbus….

OP can you please help me out with this? Please?? My order was just shipped yesterday! anyway you can get it sent back so I can exchange for Nimbus shoes instead? It would be greatly appricated! I plan to be a long term customer and will let all my friends know about your good deeds :)

If you need the order number I'll send it through.

  • I've had a couple of kayanos and they are great. Anyone tried the Kinsei? I was thinking of giving them a go if the price goes down.

    • I found the Kinsei to fit very well and they are stronger than the Kayano but they are way too hard. I found my feet were hurting after a 1 hour run on the road / footpath. A friend of mine has the same experience. Kinsei are supposed to be the top of the line and ideal for those who do long-distance running….

I am currently using Nimbus and they are great. They feel much better than the Kayano which I was using for 5+ years. I found Kayano were not as well built and after 2-3 weeks they start to rip at the back of the heal and within a month my big toe was sticking out of the top. Also the sides would start to rip too. Something has happened to the Kayanos in the past 3 years and the build quality has really dropped. Anything prior to Kayano 16 were rock-solid!

The Nimbus so far (1+ month) have been good and I run 13km every day. They have not started to fall apart yet and still look brand new.

    • i also want a kinsei, i love the rainbow version of kinsei.

  • I've had 2 pairs of Kinsei and they are just way too hard and heavy. Felt like I was running with bricks on my feet. I wouldn't buy them again or recommend them. Kayano's are brilliant for me and my wife swears by the Nimbus which were recommended by her podiatrist.

    • What Kinsei's? 1 & 2 were woeful, 3 was slightly better, but 4 is excellent. I own a pair of Kayano 18s/19s, Kinsei 4's and Mizuno Inspire 9's.

Honestly, I prefer the Mizuno's over all of the Asics (and they are cheaper), but the Kinsei 4's were a MASSIVE improvement over the earlier versions which were dreadful.

      • Good to hear. I had 1 and 2's and wouldn't go back. If they have improved, well done Asics.

        • They have improved, but not enough for me to use them as my daily running shoe. I use the 4's every now and then for shorter recovery runs.

However, I can't recommend the Inspire's enough. I saw a massive improvement in my 10K time the very first time I wore them, and they are just an amazing shoe for the price. I picked up a bunch of them for around $100 AUD delivered on Amazon a couple of months back.

  • I'm a PE teacher and am in my 2nd pair of Kinsei's. I've had versions 3 and 4.
I find them softer under the foot than the Kayano, but find the Kayano has better ankle support.
For running i prefer Kanyano for that reason, but for day to day sport and getting around, I choose the Kinsei.
Tehy're only a gram or 2 heavier than the Kayano (from memory), but the extra gel in them makes them feel a little more sluggish than the Kayano.

    then, what foot suit kinsei?
