Cheapest way to get to Koh Samui?

Hi,

I'll be travelling to Koh Samui in late july for a wedding (the 28th to be exact). I was thinking about staying in Phuket for a few days to just relax and do some touristy stuff, then move onto koh samui. I would probably stay 7-10days between the two places. I would probably be staying at Nora Beach Resort in Koh Samui or somewhere cheap but 5 star. I really need to be staying around places that have lots of western food.. especially for buffet breakfasts, as i'm very picky and don't like eating asian foods (no offence to anyone).

So how do i actually get to these places on a budget? If i'm going straight to koh samui, is it best to go to Bangkok (or other airports) and fly to koh samui, or is there a bus/boat option? I don't seem to know what my best options are to get there. I'm hoping to get this trip on a nice little budget.

Any help would be great. Thanks

  • Air Asia possibly the cheaper fast option Phuket > Dom Muang > Nakhon Si Thammarat > Don Sak, but then again maybe a bus from Phuket to Don Sak would be quicker and definitely cheaper?

If you can afford to stay 5 star and buy overpriced western rubbish disguised as food, maybe look at a more expensive more direct flight.
They are only $100 Phuket to Samui

  • Definitely walking would be the cheapest way.
Next, train + bus + ferry + travel pills.

  • At the surat thani train stop you can go to koh samui or krabi via bus. I imagine you could go from phuket/krabi to the train station and then onto koh samui and catch the ferry.

I imagine there are direct bus services as well. Probably mini buses as there would be a lot of travellers who would like to do both.

  • you can fly to kuala lumpur from perth , then take a direct flight to koh samui on bangkok air or firefly air.
