Want to go for birthday in July to Hong kong. Anyone know of any bargains? Can't seem to get there under $1000 return direct or $650 return budget ( by the time seats and luggage are added) and with many hours stopovers…..
There are 4 of us so really need a bargain.

I've been hunting for this for a while, but for Xmas time.
Best option for me was to use frequent flyers. On less popular dates there are seats on the 9hr flight.
I ended up with 14hr with a stop in SG.And to piggy back, any recommendations for accommodation other than what shows up on TripAdvisor?
I would try looking at flights from sydney (scotty) /perth (frangipani) to Singapore then return flight from Singapore to Hong Kong. Quick search of flights in July and September for return flights SIN to HKG are around the $400 to $500 mark SGD or around $320-390 AUD with decent carriers (Ie United, Malaysian, Cathay etc). Significantly cheaper if you fly jetstar ($240 AUD). Just need to hit up some cheap flights to singapore(ie jetstar or scoot).

Yeah the prices for budget I put up were via Singapore. By the time you have added seats and luggage, it's a whole lot more. Can't seem to get there under $650 with huge stop overs.
Just thought someone might have been in the know with a sale.
I'll be interested in Sydney to Hong Kong flights as well — travelling in September. A few weeks ago I was able to get return for ~$850, hesitated, and now it's all above $1,000.
