Cube U30GT crapped itself

Got a cube u30gt from MP4Nation in this deal a few months back

It got really hot yesterday when plugged into the charger, could nearly not pick it up. Had a very strong electrical burning smell with it.

The heat came from the area around the power plug input. The power plug was really hot as well.

Pulled the plug out. The charger seems fine, have left it on and no heat issues with it. Have not yet tested it's voltage output on multimeter.

If this was left unattended there would have been in my opinion a high chance of the unit or it's surrounds catching on fire.

Tried contacting mp4nation with their online form, but their stupid 'My Support Tickets' page seems to be showing me EVERY other support ticket they have received. All 1000+ of them, complete with email addresses and names. DOH!

You watch, the warranty will be 30 days and they won't want to fix it etc.

TL;DR Cube u30gt nearly caught on fire, mp4nation.net helpdesk is stuffed as well.

  • Go to their website - and you should be greeted with the live chat.

    • HAve tried that in 3 different browsers, cannot see it anywhere. Have emailed them again, can still see everyone elses heldesk requests!!

  • Did they by any chance send you the wrong power supply? I received a 12v one instead of a 5v one. Lucky I caught this before use and got them to send a replacement. Mine is the 23GT though not from the deal.

    • Checked the specs and it is 12v. Double checked power supply and it is 12v.

      • Ok that makes sense, your tablet requires more juice so they upped the voltage to 12V to reduce the amperage through the wire. Sounds like you have a hardware failure. I don't know if they've updated their helpdesk system, but I was able to get through to them last year when I had the wrong charger, and they did send me a replacement. Keep trying.

Oh and take some photos or collect other evidence of the problem to attach to the ticket. If you can convince them it's really dead they won't ask for return of the faulty unit, which will be problematic as Auspost will not accept items with Li batteries for air post so you'll have to use an expensive courier. That's the risk of mail order tablets from overseas.

  • Tried purchasing the crystal tablet before but they tried to sell stock when they didn't have any.

I sent them an email about their support ticket displaying all their customers info months ago, looks like they still haven't fixed it.

    Bad customer and IT
