I just convinced myself a few mins ago that I didn't really need to get the HN deal and now you give us a cheaper deal? :p I gotta stop buying cameras.

    • lol, me too but the price is so GOOD lol

  • Bought one. Thanks.

I won't neg it, 'cos it's obviously a deal, but I will say that, where Samsung cameras are concerned, the term 'caveat emptor' applies.

I have a good enough friendship with a saleslady at Bing Lee that she'll tell me when not to buy something and, when I told her I wanted to buy one of those little Samsung cameras with the full-back 'haptic' touch screen and the front display, she told me "no, Samsung cameras are bad, don't buy it". Against my better judgement, I ignored her advice. She was right, I was wrong, the camera was crap and I ate humble pie returning it for an exchange a couple of weeks later.

The touch screen business was pretty arbitrary, worked sometimes. The menu setup was abominable, it was really difficult to find /anything/ and get the camera working how I wanted to. After a while it just crashed, self-bricked, and gave me an excuse to return it.

I am advised that this sort of thing is normal, so no more Samsung cameras for me.

    • Ditto… A Samsung camera for $400?
Kids toys at their best, nothing more.
Get a Canon or Nikon at that price and you will not be disappointed.

      • Don't buy Samsung because it's not popular or well known as Canon/Nikon? Poor advice. Getting a Canon EOS M will be more expensive and they don't have a telephoto lens. Nikon doesn't even have an APS-C mirrorless camera system. Samsung NX has a much better lens selection (even better than my Sony NEX).

touchscreen, are you talking about Galaxy Camera ;)? coz this NX1000 has no touchscreen, also, with most reviews online say 'worth the money with exceptional image quality' plus playing with one now, I can say I am peretty happy with it :)

I have one and it is a great little compact. Perfect for travel and taking out on weekends. The included lenses are great and if needed you can buy other prime lenses. I haven't had any issues with it and I use it mostly in shutter priority to capture action.

      • Nah, I think he's referring to the Samsung DualView range, which are consumer level point and shoot models.

  • initial review when it was launched FYI

    Firstly, Thanks OP

After buying the Sony DSC HX30V from HN for $169 - care of Ozbargain (Well it was meant to be the HX20V, but they ran out and gave me the 30 instead for the same price) I was very happy indeed with the HX30V, but went to check out these NX1000's at JB Hillarys WA, and now have one of those as well.
Very easy to use, exeptional quality on video and pictures, clearly a different league to the HX30V. Silly thing was, I only wanted to see the difference to the one I got two weeks ago, and then purchased this one as well.
Very happy with both camera's and thanks to you guys for giving the heads up. I really do not think I need a third camera, so maybe I will need to stop looking at the camera bargains on this site :-)
From my shopping experience I would like to point out: The store guy did not think that they came with a flash, but there is a flash in the box (removable), camera has a seperate charger for the battery(don't charge the battery in the camera), The sticker price was $496 for the camera and $348 for the 50-200mm lens. They made quite a lot of noise about the saving $440. They really did not need to, it sells itself.
Whitfords have 3 sets left, and I understand that they have lots online.
I did try Dick Smiths at Hillarys before paying up, and they said that the NX1000 with 20-50mm lens was on for about $680 and that Dicks were selling them off, not many left in Aus, I said that JB were selling this kit and they said it cannot be the same one.

  • I've just ordered one. Thanks OP. I looked at the Sony F3 ($399 at Teds) and I wanted one cos its Sony, but all the reviews I looked at showed the picture quality was better on the NX1000 ( I'm a pixel peeper!!). I got JB down to $441 with the free 50-200 lens but wasn't sure as the stock samsung lens is not image stabilized. Along comes JB with the $401 deal and my Pentax Q gets a new friend…..

  • Do they have white one?

    • Harvey Norman has White option, same deal but a bit kore expensive as at 438 after Welcome5 5 $ discount applied

  • Hi All.

Received camera this morning, minus 50-200 lens kit.

Have called store to sort out. Have screenshots of when I ordered item (thought this may happen).

    Happy to anyone else?

    • No camera yet but like you I've taken a screen shot just in case.

    • Yep, got my one today, no bonus lens either, can you share screenshots?

  • got mine yesterday without the bonus lens. Chased it up today - initial responses were very vague and inconsistent but they have now confirmed that they have shipped the lens today and that it was a mess up on their system.

    • The lens arrived this morn. FWIW they also gave a 3 month jb hi-fi NOW premium music subscription for the trouble

    • Do you have a number to call, I checked online, seems only have their emails.

      • The number to call is in the bottom left hand corner of the tax invoice labeled "Return Address". PM me if you need screen shots.

  • I called the number on the invoice that came with the camera …. Holmesglen 03 95682811

  • Mine turned up today, no bonus lens. Called JB, explained the issue, manager checked and admitted they stuffed up. I can pick the lens up tomorrow.

  • If anyone still requires screen shots just let me know… but it's a common issue so they should know about it. Collected extra len from newsagency drop off today.
