New Zealand - Queenstown and Christchurch trip....any recommendation?

Hi all,

This will be my first time go to Queenstown and Christchurch and hope I can enjoy this trip. Need some input.

Don't mind about the hotel, I already choose to stay at Hilton hotel :)

Anyone can recommend the places or sightseeing not to be miss out while over there?

Also good restaurant maybe?

Cheers

In queenstown go zip trekking. Not as crazy as bungie, but still exciting and u learn about the area from the guides. Great value for money. Also get a ferg burger, they are famous there and yum.

yeah definitely will try ferg burger!!!

  • It's a bit hard to go wrong, are you driving from CHCH to Queenstown? Should take your time on the drive and spend at least a day on the west coast or a day hiking around Mt Cook, depending on which way you go. Can't go wrong in South Island NZ, everywhere has something incredible.

    • We will driving from Queenstown to CHCH on last two days. Might visit on the west coast as you mentioned but won't be able to do hiking as our little one also joining us.

  • Visit Arrowtown near Queenstown. Museum is great and the corner pie shop.
    Try L&P (fizzy drink).
If going during ski season, Remarkables is great skiing for families. Take the bus from town centre to the slopes.
    Gondala ride and lugge ride.

    • Yeah gonna visit arrowtown and stay in millbrook. Noted!!

  • +1 for fergburger
Also check if your dates permit get a car for NZD $1/day from juicy.

Also I recommend completing the drive to/from CHC / ZQN in the daytime. The lakes district is beautiful.

Reccomded dining FLame: http://goo.gl/Hf3v1 (make sure you wear a bib)
For high level dining (NZD $90/person) you cant beat the degustation (http://goo.gl/WY3qv) at Gantleys: http://goo.gl/d71VB

    • We will miss those NZD $1/day as we will going on 31 of March. Thanks anyway.

Noted for the Flame grill, will try this later on.

    • Flame is awesome. Their ribs are amazing.

Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantleys, Gantley.

      Say no more.

One of the best dining experiences in Queenstown (though technically it is Arrowtown). I've eaten at the Botswana Butchery, Wai, Finz and Eichardts and without question, Gantleys was the best value, quality and location.

      Do no miss it…

  • The Cow in Qtown for the best seafood (or any flavor) pizza you will ever have. They do good pasta too. Hard to find for a newbie, head to the cinema in the mall and ask dirctions. It's in Cow Lane. I first went in 1980, it's beautifully rustic, roaring fireplace, shared tables, great for meeting others. May have to wait at bar for table but staff are excellent and you will have a good time. I dream about this place.

  • Can anyone recommend a good car hire company? I am trying to debate between a campervan and a car+hostel for my girlfriend and I travelling June 21-July 16.

  • Rent a dent has decent Subaru wagons for a very good price.

  • I used Queenstowncarhire.co.nz
for a people mover and were negotiable.

The YHA is on the Queenstown lakefront, as is Bumbles. Go backpackers way, and you'll meet great people from all over the world.+1

Plus easier to drive a car on some mountainous (maybe wet/icy) roads.
But you can stop/ overnight most anywhere in a camper. Check the bylaws first.
