Apartment in NYC

Anyone know of good accommodation, like an appartment for 5 people in NYC that not too expensive, that is not $1000 a week ?

Are there sites out there that offer short term appartments in NYC , that people have used ?

Or anyone can reccomend some good accommodation in NY?

  • Sesrch airbnb?

  • Try vrbo.com or airbnb.com. I've used both of these in USA and was happy with them. Keep in mind that you are renting directly from the owner and not from the hotel so you won't get daily room keeping, breakfast, etc.

5 people for $1000 a week = $200 each = $28.57 a day which seems good to me. You'd pay more than that in a hostel for something much shittier.

I used Wimdu (Airbnb clone) last time I was in NY. Got a 1 bedroom apartment for $110 night in Long Island City (5 minutes subway to midtown). If all 5 of you are sleeping in the same bed, then you may be able to find something under $1000 otherwise you are asking a lot. The subways run all night and cover a big area so don't just look in one spot in NYC. I recommend LIC.

  • Aren't they clamping down on airbnb in the USA?
I remember this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/01/your-money/a-warning-for-a… and after reading it felt it was too risky (out on the streets on nyc with no acocmodation and just under 21? i'd crap myself).

    • NYC likes to clamp down on everything. The clamp down was a good idea a few years ago as there was little verification, ratings, or feedback on sites before AirBnb and Wimdu. People simply listed their place and both parties hoped for the best.

AirBNB/Wimdu are the middle men and facilitate ratings and the collecting of money in exchange for a fee. I'm not sure how you would rewrite the law to cater to that. It's really the building or apartment owners that run the higher risk.

In any case, it's incredibly easy to find accommodation in NY. Even if you don't, it's a 24 hour city, lots to do in the middle of the night.
