Kindle Paperwhite 3G

Look for the 3G version of the paperwhite at a good price.
Amazon have them for $199 + post.
DSE & BigW should have them but for some reason there is a hold up with getting them on shelves and no body can
say when it will happen.
Prefer shop front for warranty purpose but if it's online shop needs to be Aussie based.

  • Is the 3G a deal breaker? I have the old 3G model and find it is of very limited usefulness.

  • It's a pressie for the father in law.
He's done the research plus they are old school as in they don't have wifi at home,
prob can't be bothered using their Iphone5 as a hot spot etc etc!

So he wants the 3G version for ease of downloading.

Agreed, if it was me I wouldn't bother!

  • Amazon's warranty is global, and the best I have ever encountered. If the unit fails, or even if it is accidentally damaged (as long as it was dropped from under shoulder height) they will replace the device.
You contact their call centre and they drop ship a replacement via Fedex from Shanghai - arrived in 3 days in my case.
They then give you a RMA to fedex the broken one back free.
I can't imagine having as good a result with Dick Smith or BigW.
I used the warranty on a device purchased from Woolworths.
So don't let the warranty concern influence you.

  • And I should add I believe orders from Australia made on Amazon.com are also fedexed from China similarly quickly.

  • Thanks for that info as it's one of the things we are taking into account.
When I spoke to DSE he said that we just take it to back to them and they then send it off to Amazon office in Sydney.
They also offered an extended warranty for next to nothing that covers it for an extra year, in which time
if you had an issue they would swap it for a new one in the shop straight away.

The Amazon warranty I had my concerns about who pays for shipping the item to wherever it needs to go
    if something happens.

    cheers

    • When I did the Amazon warranty they paid all shipping.

  • Just get it from Amazon - their service is absolutely second to none. When my Kindle broke, they shipped me a new one straightaway, at no cost to me, and didn't even need me to send the damaged one back!
