Smart TV - What is Best?

My current TV is a 4 year old 55" Samsung LCD. Very happy with it … but it has no smarts.

Might be in the market ffor a 60" or more smart TV.

Would like to use it for Foxtel, Free-T- Air, AND catch up TV, eg ABC iView.

(Have a 1st gen Apple TV & might get the latest to stream from my Mac.)

Would also be great to surf the internet with it.

Any suggestions as to what might be BEST and/or best value. Thanks

Just get an Android box or upgrade to the new AppleTV
SmartTV doesn't offer anything more useful than those options will provide.

As scuba says, get and android box and get xbmc on it then you have everything you need :)

  • Good to know guys … I was hoping that it would not be worth buying a new TV!!! (I'll just google what "an android box" is so we can get one, or will a new Apple TV suffice? (We are mainly Apple at home, but do have low-end Windows notebooks.)

    Thanks again!

    • Android will offer you some more options, but stick with Apple TV if you're not a tinkerer.

Most smart TVs are dumb. I cant believe they try and sell them labelled as such. If you wish to take advantage of un-metered content from your ISP -such as for iview, note that the iview app on most TVs directs to a different (usually non-flash) site that is metered. I use a PS3 webbrowser and access iview through the abc.net.au/iview page.

Having said that, most smart TVs have quite good SD card movie playing setups and are ok at accessing streams on your home network. My Panasonic P50ST50A does this well. But the panasonic iview app is the crappy crippled one.

    • This is another good suggestion..
      PS3's are dirt cheap nowadays

The cheap and best i think…
