Deals news ticker on top of site

I was wondering if u can put a news ticker for new deals that auto updates.

And on the new deal section, put the new deals in the news ticker.

This would reduce the need to reload the site so often.

The ticker should auto update every few minutes.

  • That's what Live does other than front page deals. Was that what you wanted or are you suggesting like a stock market ticker?

    • I am thinking like the news ticker that show up on the TV news channel.

It should be on the mainsite and the new deal section.
It should constantly update with new deals.

This would prevent/reduce the need to click the reload button.
Also one of the problem with the site is we don't know there is new deal posted unless we refresh the page.
If we didn't refresh, we could have missed out on a good deal that was time limited.

So we need to keep clicking reload every few minutes..as was shown in your ozbargain video competition

It could keep scrolling the new deals posted so far, but if someone puts a new deal up.
Then it shows that new deal in a standout colour or with label : [TIME] New deal posted: XXXXXX

      e.g. 11:50pm New deal: Gps for $100 @ X store…

Maybe it could be summarised line about that deal…

      • If you are using Firefox, you can give RSS Ticker a go and add the New Deals RSS feed and the Front Page RSS feed. Then you will be able to see new deals and front page deals posted as they happen without even being on the OzBargain site.

        • I don't FF use it anymore

          I use chrome nowadays..

and it would be browser specific and probably need the addon.

If u could code this in the site it would be better and works on all devices…

I don't know how hard to do this but I think this wouldn't be too much of a challenge (considering what you did with the april fools day front page) for you guys..since I am sure this feature is probably already on other sites and u could re use the code…

If u can make the ticker, clickable to that specific deal would be great..

        • +1

If you do implement it, and I don't see why it has to be on this site, since Tyler can just watch the RSS feed in another tab, please make it possible for each user to disable. I'd hate the distraction of moving artefacts on my screen.

          Like floating love hearts?

        • Somehow that animation didn't appear on my screen. Maybe my browser suppressed it or something.

  • Also a separate but annoying problem I don't like is on the ipad
we need to click the deals link twice to get the new deals page.

When we click it the first time, it shows the drop down menu then we need to click it again to load the actual page.
The problem is the link is really small on tablet devices so it can be hard to hit the link

    • It's not that small on an iPad.. Seriously. You click twice with a mouse on a desktop pc for the same function?

      • but on ipad the text is smaller and the fingers are not as accurate as a mouse.
