1080P, Barebone Ultrabook? < $1k (preferably lower)

  1. Beautiful
  2. Light
  3. Battery
  4. Great keyboard
  5. 1080p (it'd be nice if it was IPS)
  6. SSD

I'd prefer it didn't come with any OS so I can save the $$.

What are my options? I'm fine with Intel HD 4000 for graphics. Mostly heavy web browsing, Word/Excel/Visio and light compiling for programming.

I've looked at a lot of different things but don't have anything in mind. The HORIZE 1080p sort of fit but I don't like their looks and the keyboard.

PS: I might be able to compromise on the lightness if it fits everything else (doesn't strictly have to be an ultrabook) as long as it'd be convenient to take to and fro university.

PSS: I could go an other path and not care for the size/weight. I'd then want something with the best keyboard and best aesthetics (any screen size/resolution/etc.). What are the best bargainbooks that look the best and type the best?

  • looking for this kind of ultrabook aswell i think we might need to wait for another 6months to get it under $1k :)
today played with samsung series 9 and wow it is good.

nb. i need it slim and sleek just like macair but i dont like apple products, too expensive

  • besides the w550 and the upcoming w650, this laptop in a brand name does not exist for the money

  • This might be the closest:

For some reason they stopped making the UX21A (11") version.

Asus Aust. said they'd honour the int'l warranty on their Portable PCs sold from this retailer, but not from some other US/other retailers. Ring them to double check: 1300 278 788 Operating hours: 9AM to 6PM Sydney Time.

You could also wait till June or so, when the next gen Intel Haswell CPUs will be released, and all the old model prices will drop.

  • that comes close but the CPU is 1.7 so would not suit heavy work

the w550 with a normal 2.8 cpu and 8Gb of ram would crush it

also beware of GST on import laptops

    • what is a w550?
