Delivery guy contacted my rental manager??

Apparently I missed a "delivery" guy the other day while I was out. I had a couple of missed calls from my property manager, and finally managed to answer her. She told me that she had a message from some delivery guy named (insert name here) that there was parcel delivery for my brother (He's NOT on the lease but has been staying here for a little while) and to call this number and quote this reference number.

It's really strange because firstly, he's NOT on the lease, and secondly how the hell, and why the hell would a delivery guy find out who our property manager is and contact them?

He didn't leave any notes or anything. My brother isn't expecting anything. Only deliveries would be freebies from ozbargain.

Has any one had a similar experience before? The only thing I can imagine is that it must be a debt collector?

does your brother have unpaid debts?

Yeah he does, that's why I'm assuming it's a debt collector.

then tell him to pay the debt

Awesome advice Dr Phil. I'll tell him to do that as soon as he can recover from his accident that caused his debilitating disability and get himself a new job.

Life isn't always black and white.

Whilst I personally would not have said 'Pay your debts….', I equally feel it is inappropriate to use an accident as an 'out' for paying debts.

Where are the savings for a rainy day?

Where is the Income Protection Insurance?

Where is the ownership and Personal Responsibility?

        • True, I guess there are exceptions but you're exactly right. Always expect the unexpected. Whilst I feel sorry for OPs family, I would be pretty annoyed if I was owed the money

I didn't really want this post to turn into a debate on the rights and wrongs of being in debt and not being in a position to repay. I think it's off topic, but I was expecting it.
You don't know my brothers condition, you don't have a right to judge him and accuse him of using his accident as an 'out' for paying debts. He has gone through all of his savings and literally can not afford to pay for anything but bare essentials these days. Do you think he wants to have his credit ruined and live in poverty? Everyone's circumstances are different…Not everyone is in a position to have savings for a rainy day, or can afford income protection insurance in the first place. It's a financially hard world out there for a lot of people and a lot of them are taken advantage of by financiers and debtors in the first place, especially when they aren't financially savvy.

Anyways, enough of that, it's off topic.

And I didn't come on here to get into a scrap or chase sympathy for my brother etc. I just wanted to know if other people had had a similar experience as it was pretty strange.

    ring up and find out

Ask if you can pick up on brothers behalf as he is incapacitated, and you bring his licence as ID.
Then ask who's it from/dispatch point.
