Waiving annual fee on reward Mastercard or VISA

I currently have a no fee VISA card with CBA. I wanted to also get a rewards card without paying an annual fee. I can see that there are only a couple of AMEX cards that meet these criteria. I have heard however that several banks will waive annual fees on some other cards if you call and ask. Does anyone have any recommendations for one of these cards?

  • The go MasterCard from GE is no annual fee. Has $25 activation fee - once off. You can avoid the $5 monthly fee by having a balance of less than $10 on the day before the statement date (in my case if I have a nil balance on 1st of every month, I don't pay) . I've paid the $5 fee 3 times in 3 years as I forgot. Rewards are great - Westfield cards $100 for $ 13500 spend. Go also do bonus points like Amex.

  • I probably spend about $30000 every year on my Woolworths Everyday Money Credit Card. You normally pay $49 or so fee every year, waived in the first year. The first year I paid the fee but after that I asked them to waive it as my expenditure was quite high. To my surprise they did and have done it every year since. My spending has dropped quite a bit on the card recently and they may not continue to waive the fee. In which case I might change over to another card. The Go card sounds good, thanks Bmann999. The Woolworths card normally only pays 0.5% of every dollar spent, not as good as yours.

  • If Bmann999 has his or her housing loan with CBA, they will, by policy, agree to waive the annual fee permanently on their CBA Gold MasterCard (with rewards).
