  • "As soon as I installed this pos someone from Japan tried to hack my google account, coincidence?"

    • -1

      um, yes?

      • -1

        No.

        • +2

It actually is. The Android permissions system is quite exhaustively detailed and this application doesn't request permissions to access your account details - all it can do is take photos and write them to disk. (Edited to add, even if it DID somehow get your account details, it doesn't have the permissions to upload them using the Internet permission of Android.)

You can check the permissions on the "permissions" tab of the play-store page, appropriately enough.

          Please don't spread FUD.

Yes, I saw that. The point is that it is a coincidence. That person is ignorant of the workings of Android.

        • That person is ignorant of the workings of Android.

          Or a competitor… :-)

        • It's interesting to note that out of 1,024 reviews that one is apparently the most helpful.

        • +4

          Or a Apple user.

  • +3

reviews aren't very good are they

  • +4

That is a LOT of 1 star reviews…

  • +8

Is it just me, or did the world just go topsy-turvy…since when does a software trial for an app that is at best reviewed as merely sketchy; at worst an unconfirmed potential security threat; qualify as a bargain?

    • -2

Just wanted to know why you guys give a negative review for a product that's free . I know some people just give a negative review. But what kind of threat is there.

      • +2

Are you talking about negative reviews (as in all the 1 star reviews) or negging your deal? Because rating a free app as 1 star is completely justified if the app is sh!t.

    • +1

A bit quick on the neg there StewBalls
The Security Threat issue has been clarified as being coincidental above..
The poor user reviews look like users who don't know what a Widget is… (it's not going to appear in your app drawer!!!)

As for the trial.. it's supposed to be the full app despite the name.

      • +2

Perhaps. The neg's mainly for the fact that it's a trial…if enough people confirm that it's a full, uncrippled version then I'll be happy to pull the neg.

I spotted the widget thing though, I concur on that…but surely a reasonable proportion of the 295 people voting 1/5 could work that out too?

I can't speak to the security side of things, better Android brains than mine will know for sure though.

        • It's Upto you to go on neg or positive. If you go on the app of the day is its free and it even says. Was 2.89. Now free

        • +1

Unfortunately in this as in most things there's a bias towards the negative reviews - someone who installs it and is just okay with it functioning as described has no real reason to head back to the play store page to rate it, however people who are unable to get it to work head back to the play store page to uninstall it, and while they're at it rate it lower. That's a reason I've heard to describe negative ratings, as for how true it is I couldn't tell you. There's also the fact that the play store is someone infamous for having morally-dubious people pay for competitors products to be 1-starred.

That being said, the actual app looks pretty shitty, and probably deserves a good portion of those low-rated reviews.

God I hate that the Camera on my Galaxy must have the shutter noise.

ALL cameras should have the option to turn it off (better that it is default off).

    • A lot of the 3rd party camera applications have an option to enable or disable the camera shutter sound.

  • +6

It is only a trial - I gave it a go for the sake of it, it counted down from 10 when I took shots, after 10 it told me the trial was over and I had to pay $2.XX for it

On the plus side, my desk didnt realise I was taking photos of it.

  • +3

    not good at all!
    it's a trial version
i can take only 12 photos.
    and it's over

  • +2

    trial here too

If you read the info on the appoftheday app, it clearly states that you enter the activation code: appoftheday to get the full version.

    • +2

So, can you confirm that you installed it & got the full, unrestricted version?

I'd try myself, but I have no use for an upskirting app widget…so meh! ;)

      • +2

I'm not sure about the upskirting part, but yes it does become the full unrestricted version.
