Best place to replace single CD player with MP3 player

Hi Guys,

I have bought 2000 Ford Falcon which has got factory fitted single CD player. It can't play mp3.

Just wondering how can i make it play mp3? via FM transmitter or replacing player itself.

Do you know any place where i can get this replace cheaply?

Thanks.

  • If there is an aux input, just connect your portable MP3 player to it with a cable that has 3.5mm jacks, that would give you the best sound quality.

If not and the player has a FM radio, then you can buy a cheap MP3 player that has a transmitter.

    Usual places, eBay, etc.

    • Thanks for reply. I read reviews on WP and other forums and most of the time people are advising to avoid transmitter. I'll check aux input.

      • +1

        Cost of cable for Aux-In = $5
Cost of FM transmitter = $10
Cost of replacing Head Unit by yourself = $100 +2-3 hours ($100 for a cheap unit)
Cost of replacing head unit and paying for install = $300

FM Transmitter isn't the best solution, but they do a decent job for a low price.

        • Thanks for cost comparison.
do you know which fm transmitter is better ?

        • I've got a cheapie from the Reject Shop that I've had for 5 years.
The best ones have fully tunable transmitters that allow you to select a random frequency anywhere on the FM spectrum.
The super-cheapies only have a few frequency options.

You do lose some fidelity, Bass is flatter and Treble peakier on mine, I find that I can get most of the quality "back" on Classical Equalizer setting on the mp3 player.

Definitely go for the AUX in option if you have a socket though.
