Need flights and accommodation in Koh Samui

Hi guys, im looking for a basic flight itinary and recommendations for accommodation to koh samui from 24th July 2013 - 29th July 2013, then to Phuket to depart on the 3rd August. I will be attending a wedding in koh samui on the 28th, so was hoping to maybe catch the full moon party on the 24th July.

I've looked at airlines like air asia, jet star, scoot, etc. I just need to find the cheapest way possible to get to koh samui from somewhere in asia - e.g. Phuket, Singapore, bangkok, KL (using most probably bangkok airways - unless there is another option), then to go back to Phuket.

In summary i would like:
23rd July Late flight Syd -> Phuket or somewhere (arrive 24th July)
24th July Phuket or somewhere -> Koh Samui
Koh Samui 24th-29th July
29th July Koh Samui -> Phuket
Phuket 29th July-3rd August
3rd August Phuket -> Sydney

If anyone can help, that would be great! =)

  • Kimba - you and I have a similar problem… only mine is about a month after yours.
    Firstly - people who choose to marry in a tropical paradise probably think that it will make their wedding so much more memorable and getting married in a third world country can sometimes be cheaper than getting married at home. This, of course, is not really true as it shifts a major part of the cost on to the 'guests' since instead of paying whatever amount they would normally pay for a wedding gift each of the guests now have to pay $800+ on flights plus accommodation costs. Then they have to decide whether to add a gift on top of that.
    Secondly, Koh Samui is a particularly bad choice for a wedding as only a handful of airlines fly into the island. There are a few more that fly nearby so you could link up with a ferry but that is not very convenient. Also, AFAIK no airline flies direct from Australia so you will have to get connecting flights - adding to the cost and inconvenience.
    Lastly, not sure if this will help you but I have just seen one way flights PER to USM using Tiger and Bangkok Air in early August for $300 - Tiger to Phuket and then Bangkok to USM.
    Good luck.

  • kimba- agree with above- koh samui is actually complicated- be aware that airasia does NOT fly directly into Koh Samui but to the mainland nearby and then you have a long ferry ride after that. Basically its bangkok air from phuket or bangkok (code share with thai) Or firefly from Kuala lumpur (code share malaysia/klm etc)…be aware that the firefly flight does NOT leave from KUL international but from Subang airport…
    Best bet is via bangkok with bangkok air…buts its gonna cost you…It may be worth searching for prices for the BKK-USM flight directly with a travel agent in bangkok….check the travel boards for this…good luck and start saving…
