  • Lol any point to this thread? There's a lot of fake phones in Asian countries.

  • $344 AUD for a fake phone what a rip off.

  • That aren't just overseas, saw a recent ad in gumtree from a guy explaining to people how he had been scammed by a person who delivered a fake iphone to him.

When you're buying a phone off a stranger, always turn on the phone and check whether it works, whether it accepts a SIM card (if the phone is stolen and the telco has blacklisted the IMEI number, then the phone stops working) and to see if the phone functions normally.

The buyer wasn't thorough enough with inspecting his goods. Even a good drug buyer will sample the goods to know if he's getting the good stuff!

There're tricks in every trade. I got stung a few years back buying a phone on gumtree. Did the full inspection, call test & even ran the IMEI through the AMTA website. All seemed legit until it was reported stolen & blocked 2 days later. Lesson learnt. Now I always look for a box with matching IMEI when buying as proof of ownership.

Beware of gumtree they've sold so many fake things including a house! Which apparently 3 people bought it was on current affair and the owners of this property had no idea. It was an amazing story. Gumtree has a bad name STAY CLEAR OF IT!

I wouldn't go as far as saying that but it's certainly not a place to buy if you aren't confident in knowing what you are buying. I've bought 2 iPhones from different people on gumtree and all was ok, but I looked past quite a few ads that came across as looking dodgy (ie: no boxes; price way too low; must sell today etc).

  • Good for you

    • I'd love to see a link to your "sold a house 3 times" story.

I guess some people are a little more experienced in the realities of the real world then others.

      • I remember that story on ACA

  • Go to either today tonight or a current affair. It really opens your eyes!

  • Sorry Chippy just seen your comment. Have a great weekend. Mel
