MEL/BNE/SYD to Europe Return Flying QANTAS from $1055

1820

Hi everyone,

I've spent most of the afternoon booking 4 sets of these flights for my friends so I thought it was about time to post it up on OzBargain.

Travel dates are: Leave between Oct 2 til Nov 30, Return whenever (latest I booked was 2 Feb 14)
These are direct flights on Qantas or Qantas Code-share with Emirates and start from ~$1055 (to London) on expedia.com.br website and range up to $1300.

This is the $1055 one that I found:
Leaving 28/11/13 SYD - LHR
Return 31/12/13 LHR - SYD
2174 BRL ~ $1053.29 (on XE)

If you book a multitrip, you can fly into London and out of Dubai for $955AUD or you can just pick 2 random European cities to fly into and out of and it shouldn't cost more than $1400

Furthermore, you get Qantas points and status. A MEL - LON return will reap upwards of 22,000 points which is enough for a return trip between Melbourne and Sydney.

        • Sweet, thanks.

          Wasn't sure, never used it.

  • Can anyone confirm how much check in luggage and carry on lugagge is permitted with this booking?

  • Hi all,

Can anybody tell me if it's possible to extend the stopover in Dubai by a day or two? Do you need to do this before or after booking?

Also, when does this deal end? Is it possible Qantas will realise what's going on and stop the deal?

    • Yes, I made such a booking using the multicity option on Expedia.

    • +3

Qantas won't stop this happening - the prices are the everyday prices for Brazilians - they just love to rip Aussies off… But they won't stop selling flights through Expedia Brazil or any other country for that matter.

Anyone who says your flights will be cancelled is <MOD: Remove foul language>. These are legitimate bookings and will appear almost instantly on your frequent flier logon…

Qantas have no right to cancel your booking just because you got a good deal…

    • The Europe sale these fall under ends April 30.

Any good deals ex-ADL? Wanna take my mom somewhere.
PM me if I forget to check here thx!

    • +2

Great deal Adelaide to Paris return (via Dubai) for two weeks departing mid October converts to $1222.91AUD, exact same flights on Qantas website $1939.05AUD.

      • Thx

So there's no booze and halal only food?

    • +1

Emirates serves free alcohol, generous with it too from what I remember

    • Where on earth did you get that from?!

    • yeah i saw that too…………only choices between vegan, infant, fruit, and halal

      • Where does it show that? Which flights?

      • Hmmm on Emirates three weeks ago flying Bangkok to Sydney I had the choice of chicken or snapper….

      • that's just the SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS section.

it's a supplement to the "normal" food.

always order vegetarian as you (95% of the time in my experience) get fed first.

        • Or sit at the front?

I've noticed on the flights we have booked, the Emirates flights are free seat selection as opposed to Qantas' $25 per seat per segment.

  • Is a stopover possible in Dubai? Either at time of booking or through qantas later?

    • yes - just use the multi city option (allow a couple of days between arriving in dubai and departing)

  • So when are you meant to be issued with an E- ticket from Qantas, booked last Sunday and havent received one

    • +1

If you have entered your QFF number, the flights will appear under the "my bookings" section of the qantas website immediately.

      • Yeah they do appear my bookings so all good! My account still says 0 FF points, does it take a while to transfer?

        • +1

Points are only credited after you've completed the flight

        • Yeah, generally within 24 hours after you've taken a Qantas flight, and longer for partner airlines.

  • Thanks OP, just scored flights on boxing day and returning in mid Jan from Adelaide - Dubai (2 day stop over) - London heathrow then flying out from Rome - Dubai - Melbourne for $2000 (an absolute bargain for such a peak period). Aside from the price, it's worth mentioning that all the fares I spotted were classed as discount economy class "S" - meaning that you can request an upgrade to prem econ / business on the Qantas operated legs! Also, just to confirm we booked qantyas flights via expedia.ie to travel to Bangkok in March (booked mid last year), and we had no problems.

  • When I use the multicity option and add in a 2 day stopover in Dubai the price goes up an extra $200 per person, is that usual for a stopover to cost so much? Wasn't expecting it to be so pricey.

    • +1

That probably would be airport and any passenger movement taxes being added.

      • Ah I see, thanks very much for the info!!

    • It's not British pounds. That's a fact. No luck required

    • The chrome translation made it pounds for me to but the original is R$ :)

    • it's just a poor chrome translation as mention before

    • It's definitely in Brazilian Reals. Plenty of people have already booked this fare on OzBargain. The fare is also available from Brazilian travel agencies, and is independently verifiable at http://matrix.itasoftware.com (enter 'Rio de Janeiro' as your sales city).

  • That is great to know. I was just worried that people MIGHT have to pay more than they expected.

  • i tried multiple times on the expedia.com.br and decolar.com sites with credit cards from NAB and Westpac. Errors every single time.

The NAB debit card actually had $2100 withdrawn by expedia, plus 3x $117 booking charges, but still no confirmation and the itinerary stands as un-booked.

    Getting cheesed off :(

    • Errors at what step?

      • when trying to process payment.

        • Does it just sit and fail to complete loading?

          Which browser?

I would offer to let you teamviewer into my pc and book it through here, but obviously wouldn't work as the credit card details would have to be entered in plain view.

If the flights haven't been confirmed, just ring the bank(s) and make sure the payments don't go through (Usually a week from the time they are generated).

        • Also make sure you have checked your spam folder, that is where my confirmation emails were!

        • My credit card hasn't been accepted either (CBA) - two charges for 97c made it through, but I was expecting ~$2200 (tickets for 2 - Brisbane -> London and back with a little stay in Dubai)

Spoke to CBA - they saw 4 charges and rejected 2. Have left a note on the account to expect ~$2200 from Expedia Brazil.

The expedia website asked me to try another card - and the trip is still down as not booked.

Has anyone else had problems/wins here?

EDIT: Just tried again after talking to the bank and it worked! Seems expedia charge something small (~$1) then immediately do the big charge straight away. The bank was rejecting this second charge until I spoke to them and they relaxed things. So I now have 3 charges for 97c, and one for $2084.15. Not sure what will happen with the 97c charges but I'm not too stressed in the grand scheme of things.

If anyone is having issues - have a chat with your bank and try again :)

I do have a 28 degrees card, but booked through CBA to get the free travel insurance on my platinum credit card (part of my home loan package)

        • Exactly same problem. CBA too. . Advised by CBA to log out of browser and try again didn't work. Should I try shutting computer down totally? Changing browser? Putting spaces instead of typing cc no. In one go? Help please! :)

        • I don't think you've done anything wrong. Getting the bank to put a note on my account to expect 2k from Brazil did the trick for me :)

        • Thanks Senor. Bank says ring expedia. New bolt on but aldi recording says I don't have credit- waiting on aldi to call me back. Is it easy to set up skype anyone? How much time to set up?

        • They told me to call expedia too but I didn't - tried once again and it worked. I can't imagine Skype would be too expensive provided you can find someone who speaks English…

  • Booked for October to London and stop 3 nights in dubai. After credit card surcharge etc for 1150! Good bargain ! Thank you for posting this deal :)

  • Anybody given up on this deal? Too hard? I'm still trying but losing hope.

    • Try decolar.com mate.

    • How is it too hard? Availability has taken a hit thanks to so many forums listing the deal, but there are plenty of excellent fares still available!

  • Just the same credit card probs that everyone else is experiencing except mine aren't bing resolved with my multiple phone calls to com bank
Can't call brazil cause Aldi mobile say not enough credit even though I paid for a new bolt on. Aldi mobile support not returning calls

    • +1

      Use skype, link above.

And it is in no way "everyone else". It is more a handful. My mrs uses Comm and the payment went through fine after calling them and letting them know.

      • Thanks! trying all day! Will get skype sorted.

      • exactly, no point complaining that there's a problem with the deal when the issue is with your choice of telco and credit providers

  • Just frustrated, and hoping for help, which I am very grateful to you all for providing. Big Thanks for the skype hint. Will call brazil when they open their time tomorrow (tonight) This is a super deal that I hope I can get to work for me, xx to OP.

    • Good luck.

Might want to work on the replying too, easier to follow a thread/conversation when it is all underneath instead of spread out, just something to keep in mind to make life easier for yourself and others.

  • +1

Hey, I've tried the using the Skype deal as mentioned above but the countries it covers doesn't include Brazil which is a bummer!
Also, has anyone verified that you can 100% change your flights once booked? And also, wouldn't that mean you have to call in to the Brazil office to get it sorted out? Thanks for the help!

    • Thanks for the heads up on skype— anyone know what time deal finishes today please?

    • i can confirm but im missing like a chunk of money i think i got charged 150 by expedia and another 150 by Qantas

  • I got expedia confirmation n also log in to frequent flyer where I can see my booking.

  • skype wont work as discussed above. Will try to fix aldi mobile when they open then call Brazil at 8.30 tonight. hope deal closes at midnight not midday. Anyone know? Anyone got a backup for Europe 5 nov to 5 dec if I am unlucky? :(

  • Went looking on expedia br for deal closing time. The only European sale i could see was 20% off package deal to Europe (bottom right hand corner home page) which they say ends in 2 days (their time i assume) 8am in Bne now so midnight 2 days from now gives me 29 hours to book? Assuming this is correct?

  • found some flights ~780 return from ADL to NYC or Las Vegas in september via Decolar.com anyone bought through there?

    • Damn! Now I have to buy those too.

    • Hey Gristy, what dates were you looking at? I've tried with no luck.. Comes in at $2800 for 2! Much prefer $780 each!!

    • You sure they included tax? Decloar doesn't show the tax until you select the flights.

  • I put through my flight last night, went through fine on my 28degrees. Also refreshed my CC login to check that my credit available balance decreased and it did after 10 mins. Flight also in "My bookings" in my FF account. Got a courtesy call from 28degrees this morning to confirm the transactions was me. Hope it'll be fine from now on as my flight is 6 months away.

  • Hi guys, have been dialing both of these numbers for expedia brasil (i realize it's out of hours i am trying to get the process right) Brazil 0800-761-0770 All other locations +001-9493334964 The first no is local. the second is if out of the country.
i am using country code 0011 55. I'm not dialing the plus sign (in the second number). Neither works, very grateful if anyone can help.

    • Hi, I saw someone referring to this on their website and they had listed the out of country phone number without the two zero's in front of the second 1 i.e 0011 55 19493334964. No idea if this will work or not but thought it may help you to try it and see. Good luck!!

    • +5519493334964 or 005519493334964

      • Thanks muncan and shaw for trying but none of those worked. A Brasilian native says he thinks too many digits in phone number, but agreed your second option would be way to go shaw. Prices on Decolar are aud 200 more which is 800 over 4 fares:<
Might have to bite the bullet.

        • Actually, they seem to have a US number…

          +19493334964 or 0019493334964

        • Brazilian guy said he had heard that all phone in Sao Paulo gained an extra digit recently, but he was not sure about Campinas (the 19 code area is from Campinas)he said.

        • Just read what I wrote, the number is not a BR number. Try ringing what I put above.

          Call it from skype.

          Good luck understanding!

English: Hello. Do you speak English?
          Portuguese: Olá, você fala Inglês?
          Phonetic: “oh-la. Vo-se fa-la Ingles?”

English: I don’t speak Portuguese. Can you find someone to help me?
Portuguese: Eu não falam Português. Você pode encontrar alguém para me ajudar?
          Phonetic: “e’yo nyo falam por-too-ges. Vo-se po-dje in-con-trar al-gim para me a-shoo-dar”

          English: Thank you
          Portuguese: Obrigado
          Phonetic: o’brig-ado

        • I am dialling 0011 1 in front of each +19493334964 and 0019493334964. Is that correct?

        • No, just the numbers I wrote, nothing extra.

  • so i would need the us international code?

    • Which is 1.

  • Hi shaw, no go with that either, thanks though very good of you to keep trying to help.

    • Not sure what you are calling from, but the number works, I just called it.

      • Brisbane. Can you please post the whole number including codes (feeling dumb now.)

        • +19493334964 or 0019493334964

Use Skype, free subscription works fine and costs nothing.

        • 00 1 194 933 34964 Works Yay! So happy to hear a Portuguese voice! Thanks Shaw. will call them when they open.

        • Good luck lol, hope you can book it!

  • I called the expedia.com.br callcentre, the rep told me that they can't process non-brazilian cards. failed transactions AGAIN :(

    • Tried decolar.com?

      • yep, but card declined again :( time is running out.

    • Hands up everyone who's managed to book with 28 Degrees, please?

      • Plenty if you read through the thread.

        • TL;DR

    • Phone call worked! Try again andg5thou. i had set up an account with expedia br which seemed to help. I got a great young bloke on the phone. He initially gave me the same line you got but when i asked could he please try he had a go and it got through. Itinerary in inbox!!! Absolutely could not have done it without everyone's help especially shaw! I owe you a beer mate! I see you're from Tweed Heads, Shaw— do SE Qlders ever have get togethers? Can't thank you enough mate. 2 days of effort but a good result in the end- and a handy database of what to do with expedia br.

      • i tried using an AMEX on decolar.com, didn't get rejected immediately (as had been happening); it asked for further info regarding home address, then they sent an email saying the card is being processed and if successful, should get an e-ticket within 24 hours.

I'm freaking out that it won't go through properly and that the sale will be over after decolar.com rejects it :(
        HOPING FOR THE BEST!

        • That is normal, I got the same procedure.

          Check your spam emails too.

        • thanks shaw. How long after the first email did your e ticket arrive?

        • unfortunately they sent an email saying the card had been declined.
this is not my lucky night :(

      • Ha, glad you got it sorted in the end mate, not a problem at all, it is what we are all here for.

I'm not over there at the moment, but will be back next year hopefully. There was a Brisbane get together this (Or last year, can't remember exactly) which seemed to go well from what I heard, so I am sure something like that would happen again.

But once I am back, I will hold you to that beer mate, elephant memory!

Where are you travelling to btw? Keen to hear back from everyone going overseas for places to go and see.

        • Flights to Frankfurt.Heading up to the Rhine, then Paris, San Sebastian, Livingo in the Ialian Alps (Cheap place to ski if anyone's interested)hope there's a good ski season. Bavaria then home. So excited!
