MEL/BNE/SYD to Europe Return Flying QANTAS from $1055

1820

Hi everyone,

I've spent most of the afternoon booking 4 sets of these flights for my friends so I thought it was about time to post it up on OzBargain.

Travel dates are: Leave between Oct 2 til Nov 30, Return whenever (latest I booked was 2 Feb 14)
These are direct flights on Qantas or Qantas Code-share with Emirates and start from ~$1055 (to London) on expedia.com.br website and range up to $1300.

This is the $1055 one that I found:
Leaving 28/11/13 SYD - LHR
Return 31/12/13 LHR - SYD
2174 BRL ~ $1053.29 (on XE)

If you book a multitrip, you can fly into London and out of Dubai for $955AUD or you can just pick 2 random European cities to fly into and out of and it shouldn't cost more than $1400

Furthermore, you get Qantas points and status. A MEL - LON return will reap upwards of 22,000 points which is enough for a return trip between Melbourne and Sydney.

        • Sounds amazing!

We are going to UK then Rome then Paris then back to UK for new year, your trip sounds so much better, I'm sure a much larger budget though!

        • Nah. The skiing would be the expensive bit. Basic research is 82aud room 3 meals including ski pass need to hire ski gear 88aud. Total cost week of skiing aud750 includes everything but the booze. Livigno northern Italy cheaper than Swiss. Averages out to aud107 per day based on preliminary web research. Can anyone suggest costs I haven't thought of?

        • Haven't factored in travel costs or accom while traveling, unless you have left that out, it will add up.

        • Have you thought of Cervina for skiing?

        • Hey Luke. Tell me more. Do you know both areas?

  • How did everyone's charges show up on their credit cards?

I see PENDING - QANTAS AIRWA QF SAO PAULO BRA -$2,084.15
(sounds fair - interesting that it came from Qantas directly)

    But also:
    PENDING - EXPEDIA*BRAZIL 800-315-7301 WA -$0.97
    (From the successful transaction)

    PENDING - EXPEDIABRAZIL 800-315-7301 WA -$0.97
    PENDING - EXPEDIA
    BRAZIL 800-315-7301 WA -$0.97
    (From the two unsuccessful transactions)

Should I expect another charge from expedia br for their booking fee? I ended up booking through CBA so I would get free travel insurance rather than 28 degrees.

I was expecting 4,278.48 R$ / approx $2060 AUD - so $2084 sounds about right with some exchange rate variation. Havne't seen any conversion fees yet…
Either way - freaking bargain for 2 of us BNE->MEL->DXB->LHR in early November then LGW->DXB then DXB->BNE in early December :D

    • The "PENDING - EXPEDIABRAZIL 800-315-7301 WA -$0.97 " will just be a pre-authorisation to check its a valid card. The transactions will not post and will disappear from your statement in about a week.

      • You were right - those 97c charges are gone. Now shows:

        27 Apr 2013 INTNL TRANSACTION FEE -$62.18
        27 Apr 2013 QANTAS A IRWAYS SAO PAULO BRA ##0513 4,278.48 BRAZILIAN REAL -$2,072.60

So total ~$1068 each including currency conversion (3%). Tipping us over the $1000 each threshold, we get travel insurance from CBA - worth the $62 I would have saved with 28 degrees, I guess.

If you use the Bankwest Platinum Mastercard you get travel insurance and no foreign transaction fees.

    • I was charged 2090 from qantas and 117 from Expedia in another transaction. Did you get both transactions?

  • Had to use my dads MasterCard and book via decalor.com. Declined several times, until it finally processed and ticket was issued on the 9th attempt over 4 days.
PROBLEM IS THEY WITHDREW OVER $30,000 INCLUDING ALL THE UNSUCCESSFUL TRANSACTIONS!!

I know I can dispute these, but my dad is losing his effing mind.
Total nightmare. I hope they automatically refund the declined transactions, I don't want to have to deal with bank disputes and foreign call centres :(

Anyone have any suggestions or info?

    • Are the transactions posted? or just pre-authorisations?

If they are just pre-authorisations, they should disappear in about a week.

If they are posted, just file a dispute with your local credit card provider. No need to deal with foreign call centres (unless you mean your bank's call centre is overseas…).

      • according to the bank they have been authorised and the funds have been withdrawn, however the transaction 'metadata' (excuse my ignorance of banking terms) has not yet shown up, so can't dispute until then.

        • If they were declined at the other end, they shouldn't be processed, if they are processed, just dispute all but the accepted one. I have had this happen (Not to such amounts!) but the declined payments were never processed. Fingers crossed for you that they aren't and you will be saved of a massive headache!

          But congrats anyway! Lol

  • I keep getting an error:
    Sorry
There was a problem with your card.
    Check the card information.
If that does not work, try a different card.

    What do I do?

    • Call your bank and tell them to expect a $xxx transaction from Brazil. Mine went through fine after they added a note to the account.

  • +1

I also went through Decolar Syd to LHR, return stop over in Dubai for 1150 return.
Got rejected with Comm bank cards so went through Decalor and received the email that they are processing it.
Hope I won`t get doublecharged and that Decalor will honour the transaction.

Message to all - buy tickets through www.decolar.com and not through Expedia. Cheaper and less hassle.

    • Thanks. But i don't get it. Cheaper price in September too? Is this website legit?

      • Legit? Yes.

  • It should be cheaper for all tickets as there are no booking fees. In my case it was cheaper for 50 dollars.
Other users on the topic reported having good experience with that site, read the previous threads.

  • Just received the confirmation by email now. Ticket is within the body of email, no attachments.

    • How did you get the ticket? Is it from Qantas or just the itinerary details that expedia sent through? I got a confirmation email from expedia but cant seem to use any of the confirmation numbers or booking references to log into Qantas. I logged into expedia and I can see one failed transaction and one confirmed transaction.

      • Use link in email to reach web version of Expedia itinerary, then add your QFF numbers. Flights will show up in your Qantas bookings then. You can also book your seats in Expedia - I grabbed the love seats up the back and first row extra leg room seats. Winning!

        • So will choosing seats through Expedia give you them free on emirates and qantas? Even the $90 exit seats?

        • Not sure about exit seats. Why not try?

  • Getting stuck on this:
    CPF do titular do cartão

What does this mean? For credit card details.

    • It's the Brazilian version of a tax file number. Many people just re-enter their CC number or you can try google CPF generator.

  • 17 days on from booking and flights are still confirmed with Qantas.

    • +1

17 days after flying and QFF points earnt are still valid… we'll be chanting

  • so the best sites for these kinda deals is the IE and BR versions yes?

    • Set your homepage to cat/travel and ensure you have sufficient credit available on your card(s). Then wait…

  • My booking through .br was declined several times on the website but according to my CC (28 degree) they didn't decline it. There are multiple charges of approx $1200 on my CC pending (from multiple failed attempts!!). I even got a call from the fraud dept.

I called up Expedia brasil (yes it was fun pressing random numbers in portuguese but CS speak english)and they assured me that there is NO booking and No charges and those charges on my CC should drop off in 24hrs. I hope it's true as it's $$$ thousands. They even tried to make the booking over the phone and still didn't work.

Not too sure where to go from here to make the booking as 28 Degree are saying they're not declining but Expedia brasil isn't able to make the booking.

    • When did you book? To where? What price did you pay? ATM I see flights from BNE to Frankfurt with my dates via Expedia Br. are around Aud 1750. Better deals to be had with China Southern codeshare Air France for $1500.

      • And I'd pay to keep off China Southern and Air France metal.
