Sydney to Amsterdam Return with China Southern from $1147

570

Hi all, long time moocher first time poster.

So it is time that i finally give something back to the community that has given me so much.

Cheap flights to Europe!

I flew these guys last year and found them alright, you cant compare them to Qantas or Emirates, but for this price who cares.

The dates i put in to get this offer were leaving 18th September, returning 18 October. But it looks you can pretty much get any date in September & October (however some of the prices are $7 more). There is a ticketing fee of $22 but for a total of under $1150 i cant complain!

Enjoy!

  • thanks!

  • Saw on expedia for $1109.

According to the fare rules it's also valid for June departures:

    VALID FOR TRAVEL COMMENCING ON/AFTER 01JUN 13 AND ON/
BEFORE 30JUN 13. ALL TRAVEL MUST BE COMPLETED BY MIDNIGHT
    ON 26OCT 13.

VALID FOR TRAVEL COMMENCING ON EACH TRIP ON/BEFORE
    26OCT 13.

    • Is the June Deal on Expedia or BYOJet? Looking to go in June, but can't find any decent prices.

      • +1

June is available on expedia, also on the China Southern site www.csair.com.au

        • Hmmm… Must have just been my dates. I'll check it out. Thanks!

        • I just did a search for flights in june - they're all around the 1900 mark?

Can you advise how you did this? I'm desperate!!

        • Looks like expedia is selling out of the lower fares. I checked a couple of dated in June and they're hovering aroung $1300-1400.

Check www.csair.com.au. I found plenty of fares $1100-1150 departing early June returning late June.

  • If its any consultation, their pilots are trained at Jandakot in Perth (not sure of the total percentage). I'd consider flying with them for these prices.

    • It's the man not the machine, or is it the other way around?

      • Should be machine over man these days, the man barely does anything with the new autopilot systems

        • except during an emergency - and THAT is when the proper training & experience counts

  • STA Travel has this for $1125

  • Brisbane to Paris in October $1223 return very tempting…

  • great prices, the airline itself leave a bit to be desired though, but cant argue with the price !

  • Keep an eye on the travel times - Syd to London at 26hrs is good, at 38.5hrs (one of the alternatives) not so good. Syd to Athens at minimum 36hrs and return at 45 hrs total travel time…

    • Just book to AMS/CDG and get a KL/AF flight to ATH from there.

Omg thank you !!! I just managed to get our flights with 1800 AUD less then what we did last year. Thank you, thank you, thank you … http://dagobah.net/flash/thank_you.swf

saved over a thousand dollars for a flight to oslo return in comparison to klm. bloody brilliant. thanks!

    • AMS to OSL with Norwegian?

  • Do we need a visa when catch then connecting flight at China? It seems Sydney to Guangzhou ,Guangzhou to Beijing ,Beijing to Amsterdam .

    • Not if its less than 12 hrs. But consider stopping over there for a bit as last time i flew China Southern i did just that. Hong Kong is only a couple of hours away by train, and i even went down to Vietnam via Nanning and back again.

      • Transitting within 24 hrs doesn't require a visa :@)

        • I am travelling CS to Los Angeles on their A380 later this year.

I was told that no Visa is required if you remain in Guangzhou Airport, however if you want to leave the airport while in transit, there seems to be some issues with the current visa free Waver policy. Technically this policy only applies to Shanghai and Beijing airports. Guangzhou is currently not part of the Visa Waver scheme.

I have been advised that I can take my chances, and that it is up to the border Officials whether or not that allow you to enter Guangzhou Visa Free while in transit.

The only way to guarantee entry for transit passengers it by applying for a "G" visa.

Travel.com.au has it for $1077 for travel in June 2013 from Melbourne.
I flew with them on a similar price last year… They actually weren't bad at all, except some connections were Amsterdam - Beijing - Guangzhou - Melbourne.

    • What dates? I'm failing miserably at finding anything

  • Sounds perfect to test my new Magic flight Launch Box.

  • I'm planning a trip to the UK in November - found Brisbane to Paris return for $1,209 - mighty, mighty tempting. (Could book through to London, but would go through Paris anyway so may as well get off there and enjoy the sights)

For the little extra it costs ($40?), I'd prefer flying with the full-service Royal Brunei Airlines rather than China Southern.

    • Though they seem to stop twice on the way to Europe (Brunei and Dubai) whereas I assume China Southern stop once?

Probably not a big deal for most people, but going through security at Dubai airport with all your hand luggage, standing around for 30 minutes then going through security again only to get back onto the same plane at 4am wasn't particularly fun!

      Hmm!

      China Southern Skytrax 4 star.

Royal Brunei 3 star (plus booze not served):

I know which one I would fly with.

  • I've flown domestic in China, and have always avoided China Southern. I'd recommend looking for a deal with a better airline with better layovers

  • '+' for byojet website name

You must be logged in to vote. Right. What do you think I am?

  • The problem isn't so much the airline. It's the other passengers that tend to converse too loudly and take up all the cabin baggage space with thier 3+ carry on items …

  • Cheap flights from Brisbane to Paris return (~$1200 last night) have jumped up to ~$1500 today - looks like I missed the boat?

  • I booked flights to Europe on Sunday but am travelling in peak season (July/August) so the cheapest I could find was China Southern for $1,288. I decided to fly Scoot to Singapore and then book flights separately to Europe. Cost me $1,324 all up and takes me 27 hours there and 29 hours back (versus 29 and 23 with China Southern).

The downside is that its a 2 hour 20 layover in Singapore on the way in and 6 hours 20 on the way back.
The upside is that it's Qatar Airways to/from Europe, so comfortable seats and serves booze all year round (except between Islamic countries during Ramadan, which is fair enough).
