This product was added to our catalog on Saturday 30 December, 1899.

Did they have routers back then?

    • I think they're trying to invalidate CSIRO's claim that they invented wireless ethernet with a prior art claim.

      • -6

The CSIRO never claimed such a thing.

        … some people really need to /get a joke/

      • +1

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi
Perhaps you should read up a bit :)

    • Lol…Is that really a joke or what (the 1899 thing)…

  • Thanks!
    Bought one.

  • +3

For those who want the spec. I suspect the following is the one….
    http://www.tenda.cn/tendacn/product/show.aspx?productid=336
Got any adsl ones on special ?
It got a good wrap up in the following
    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/wireless-routers/1282345/tend…

  • +1

So it doesn't have an adsl modem? Could it be used to extend my adsl routers signal?

    • +1

      yes it can!

      • +2

        This was my question too.

I suppose you just answered it here, but is this an effective product for this purpose, or is there something better I should be looking for?

I just want to increase my wireless network through to another part of my house…

        • +2

This will work fine. The range extenders you buy are really just repeaters. You can have the same functionality in this router for fraction of the price.

    • Yes, but it will also halve the speed

      • Really, so it strengthens the signal but halves the speed, that sounds odd to me, but then again I don't know much about routers.

    • This is also a question i wanted to know the answer too. My Telstra broadband is fast with the directly ethernet connected devices, however my wireless speed is weak. I have asked before whether routers would help strengthen the signal and help in improving my speeds and got no for an answer. Though for $9 I wanted to try it out and see if it works.

      • Well, for general rule, an ethernet connection will always faster than wireless (at least for current technology). For wireless to perform faster there are several things to consider, such as interference with other wireless devices (so you need to change the channel), the distance with the device you'd like to connect, and the antenna power and direction (on some wifi router, you can change the antenna with the longer radius and stronger signal ones).

Though you correct that try this router would might solve your problem

    no paypal :(

  • "This product was added to our catalog on Saturday 30 December, 1899"

There's no electricity to power up this thing at 1899 = =

    • +2

but the 2.4 spectrum noise floor back then was awesome…. unlike these days :)

    • +2

They rode on bicycles attached to the router to keep it powered, and also used dogs, pigs and other animals when they got tired.

  • "Visa or Master Card with 0.5% Surcharge, American Express Card with 3% Surcharge"

still, not much to add for a $9 item.

    • +1

Yup 4c for the $9 deal!

  • +2

NICE .. but .. I don't like giving you my credit card info before I confirm that the shipping is free. The coupon code is after the CC info.

    • +1

It does deduct it just tried it but decided I have more routers I need already dont need anymore lol

    • +1

I was also hesitant. But I saw on the timeline at the bottom that there was a 'confirm' step after putting in the code, so I took the risk.

    • Ordered. You DO get a confirmation page that shows the shipping is free. But you have to give you CC info to get to that confirmation page. So you can back out from the confirmation page if the code doesn't work.

Thanks GreenBoxIT! Been wanting a wireless router for the other end of the house. Wired the house with CAT6 when we built it, but there's so many wireless devices now and the existing wireless in the modem/switch cabinet is too far from the front of the house.

  • nice deal Thanks - now I need to find a use for it :)

    • How about selling it on ebay for $18?

      • I think e-bay will be flooded after this deal is finished!

  • any ddwrt firmware for this?

  • Is this router can be set up as a wifi repeater? Does it support DD-wrt?

    • +1

      Repeater: Yes
      DD-WRT: No :(

  • Discount Coupon ozfree applied: -$9.09?

  • Seems like a good deal, not that much risk for $9!

  • Got one. Thank you.

Good to see GreenBoxIT with a rep on OzBargain after all these years.

For those who don't know, GreenBoxIT is some sort of offshoot of North Shore Computers - GreenBox has been around for several years, and NSCOM many years.

I've bought probably 10 things from GreenBox in the last couple of years. They are normally very price competitive, figuring in the top page of StaticIce for most items they sell.

My only complaint would be sometimes they are a little slow to ship.

Pickup is available in Mosman but you have to pay a handling fee even for pickup ($10 from memory).

Postage to Sydney metro is normally pretty decent value. Cheaper than the petrol and tolls in my case…

    WELCOME :)

  • Don't forget to check out the clearance section. A few other bargains in there - there's a Wireless N Modem Router for just under $2 more.

  • +1

Chosen BPay for $9. When I went up to the banking online to make the payment, it said: "The amount you have entered is under the minimum amount accepted by this biller."
    REP- suggestions??

    • -1

      credit card.

    • i got the same thing, ive emailed and waiting on a reply.

  • Thank you! A bit crappy that they have the BPAY option there but when paying for it via my banks online portal, it said the $9 is below GreenBoxIT's daily limit. Why have the option there then?

Oops just saw the person above me said the same thing. I paid via CC and was only 4c more so no dramas. Great deal!

  • Great price, no doubt… but as an aside, I've had a Tenda wifi adsl router as well as a usb wifi adapter before. They both crapped out within a year… just my anecdotal example for whatever it is worth.

  • +3

I think I'll send mine to the developers of DD-WRT as a hardware donation. I have too many routers anyway!

  • +1

Can't complain about the price. Just jumped. Another spare for my spare!

  • +2

Thank you for everyone's support. All 140 units were sold out in less than 2 hours. We will be back soon with more fantastic offers :)

    • +1

So why was i just able to still purchase one for $9 a few minutes ago?!

      • someone probly removed from their cart or somesuch

      • that's a great question - if there's no stock, why is the site still processing orders?

    • Rep, considering that I received an email telling me what my Order ID is, I take that as confirmation that you will deliver on the purchase. Is that correct? And will I receive an email telling me that my purchase has been dispatched?

      • dont hold your breath, they had 140 and sold 250 (by what they told me over the fone) so looking to cancel as many orders as they can……

also see my reply at the bottom

        • +1

Yep got my email advising that the order has been cancelled. Well done GreenBoxIT. Wont bother with future deals or your shitty website.

  • Can all you clowns who buying one for the hell of it, then posting how you don't plan to use please just wait 5 minutes while I buy mine? You've just ozbargained the site.

    • +1

Just check EBAY in a week's time - you'll be able to buy from Broden and friends…

  • Supplier_Stock_Level :-23

  • Good luck getting your routers! I placed an $80 dollar order in 2009 and never received it. I called them up and they said they sent it but they never did send it all. I ended up doing a Visa claim for a charge back. After I did some research and found these guys were scamming for years and have changed names. Very very bad men.

    • +4

      I'm concerned.

    • +2

Yeah Ive stopped using them as they will take your order but wait 2 weeks to tell you that they cant actually get it for that price.
Happened to me when I ordered some Brother Laser MFC

    • top blokes.

    • -1

Hmmm well my experience has been the opposite. GreenboxIT is part of the North Shore Computers group = they have been in business for years.

GreenboxIT has traded with this name for AT LEAST 3 years….

You sure you are not doing a Moots???

    • Same thing happened to be as well, both North Shore and GreenboxIT

    • +2

Hopefully they deliver what they promised, if not the wrath of ozbargain will follow them for a long time to come.

    • I bought from them just once a few months ago, admittedly it was not cheap clearance/sale items but they were the cheapest for what I wanted (motherboard, cpu, and such) and I had no problem.

  • Put it this way - if they had stock of this router, I'd risk the $ cause its so cheap, but I would never buy from them for any higher amount. You just cain't trust them. Fool me once shame on you… period. (I am a yank so I can say that instead of "full stop". It doesn't have the same ring to it.)

    • +1

Full stop! is far more manly. Period sounds a bit feminine..

  • +1

Can't pay via Bpay - poor shopping experience. :(. I also bought other stuff too.

  • +1

Bad experiences with GreenBoxIT before. Stay away

  • wow epicly dodgy company. because i chose to pay with there bpay option i had a fone call demanding that i pay via bank transfer AND have them sent a receipt by mid day for the transaction or they would cancel my order because there system does not work properly……….. not only did they allow a payment option that could not be used for transactions under $20 (nowhere did i see it say only over $20) but there system allowed more stock to be sold than they actually had or wanted to get…….

at this point i hold little hope of getting my router, but i guess $9 isnt to much to lose……

edit: i should also add that i had ordered within about hte first 10 mins while they had plenty of stock. so its not like i was one of hte ones who ordered while there system let people order while they were out of stock.

  • +1

Dodgy! They cancelled my order because I chose to pay via Bank Deposit. Stay away!!!

  • +3

    Hi there,

Unfortunately the model you have ordered has been sold out so we cannot fulfill your order. Your card was never charged, so we have cancelled your order. We apologise for the inconvenience!

    SAW THAT COMING!!!

    • +3

Same here. Most other online store have the ability to stop sales processing once an item is out of stock. You'd think an IT would be on top of that?! Useless!!

      • yet both of you have +'ed the deal still?

        • +1

          Can't change your vote once it's expired…

        • up the top, click on "votes" and then revoke your + ?

fairly sure you can revoke them even after they expire?

          if not, apologies

  • +1

See? They suck all of the balls of the donkey. Ban them for being poop.

  • Got the router 2 hrs ago… probably cause I paid $9.04 using my CC

    • +1

You lucky guy, I just got that dodgy cancellation email even I was using CC:
Unfortunately the model you have ordered has been sold out so we cannot
fulfill your order. Your card was never charged, so we have cancelled your
order. We apologise for the inconvenience!

  • +2

My order got cancelled because of nil stock too.

The problem is that this was after I purchased the router and refreshed the stock availability and it still showed 24 units in stock. Dodgy.

    • +2

Very dodgy indeed. This type of retailers shouldn't be allowed in ozbargain, dodgy!

One good thing about this is that I now know I'll never trust this mob.

  • My order was cancelled too… Paid with mastercard

  • "Thanks for your patience with this order. Some orders have been cancelled and we now have enough stock to fulfill your order. "

Looks like I'm getting mine after all

  • I still haven't heard from them apart from my invoice that was sent.

  • for $9.04 wireless router delivered lightning fast (yesterday) and has 4 x ethernet ports - loving it!

    • Did they send you any other emails after they sent you the email with the invoice after you purchased it to tell you that it's being delivered?

      • No - I received only one email "order process"

  • Got my router today from Fastway after being missed yesterday. Set it up and my network is zooming along, too easy! Great price. Definite +

  • mine was received in melbourne today after a missed delivery on wednesday

  • i got mine today in Adelaide, damn thing didnt come with a lan cable and i dont have a spare so cant hook it into my network….. for $9 it seems ok tho the company is still dodgy and wont be dealing with them again unless its something stupidly cheap like this

  • these shonky dealers misled me by showing a completely different product photo for another item i purchased at the same time. They refused to do anything about it. Reporting them to the ACCC or ombudsman. need to find out who the best person is to make a complaint. Will put their government purchasing contract at jeopardy i would think.

    • ACCC is useless, ombudsman is your only hope

  • What a brilliant router with very good signal - just found time to set it up as wireless extender and work like a charm..
