    • WTF really? Where?

      • can you upload the receipt, we might be able to go around price matching. :)

    • Aussie Post computer systems must be outsourced.. price changes like Melbourne weather!

    • i would say you bought the 3.5 desktop version as that is the price i saw

around vic all have changed to new packaging without that yellow label

  • just got the 500GB USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 - most post office (close to my suburb) that I visited still got 500GB in stock but only the one with USB 2.0 same price $29.99

  • Picked up last 1tb at tweed heads for $50.00 was listed for sale at $100

    • what do you say to get that haha! ive always wondered when people say comes up as $100 but they gave it to me for 50

  • -1

Do not touch these drives, even if it was free! Trust me. Mine failed within a month.

    • +1

They have warranty, bring 'em back.

      • -3

Warranty doesn't help when you've lost all your data now does it. What's the point of a drive if you can't trust it.

But do what you want. Was just trying to give people a heads up. Really don't know why I bother with the douches that have invaded oZb lately.

        • Douches? Bad attitude mate, all too common. All drives have the odd DOA, or soon to be. That's par for the course. So is bitterness for some it seems.

And anyone who is not a douche has backups, with the current price of storage. Get over it.

          Your link is from 2009.

        • All drives have DOA, the generation I thought this was had massive problems, which is why I was trying to save people from a headache.

Having unnecessary redundancy because of cheap unreliable storage is just dumb.

It's irrelevant however as this is a new revision. I will remove my neg vote.

        • Aim before you shoot. But kudos for removing your neg. None for your insult.

Backup is hardly unnecessary redundancy. Besides we are talking about portable that have files transferred from more permanent storage. At least I wouldn't keep my 'precious' files on portable alone.

    • According to your quoted article it doesn't affect the drives in question here.

"The issue appears to be affecting the 1TB and 1.5TB models of the Seagate Expansion External Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive. "

The drives here are 1tb USB 3.0 and 500GB!

      • Good point ash2000, hopefully they've fixed the problem with this revision. But I'd still be waiting a bit before using the drive for anything essential.

        • And the one's in the article are 3.5" Desktop models. These are 2.5" portables.

        • +2

Once again, fair point. Didn't notice.

    • I saw this exact same model in aust post hour ago, it's 30 dollars

I think someone on amazon suggested a new enclosure on it or just disassemble it as the problem lies with the enclosure.

  • Got 2 500GB USB2 for $60, should be good for the family with TV USB for watching movies I DL - lots of them.

Looking for 2 1TB USB3 for myself but most Po's aren't in on the deal, something about the category of PO - can't remember what they were but west of the A1 in Bris there are still some, few.

  • +1

Just got the last 500gb USB3 at Bowral post office for $30.00

  • I think my local PO confused the items.
I now have a Seagate GoFlex Desk 1TB (all black box) for $30.
    Same as this:
    http://www.pinoytechblog.com/archives/seagate-freeagent-gofl…

    • Awesomeee better model seagate :)

    • +1

No confusion, I got the same one for $29.99. The price tag was $29.99 as well.

  • None in Belmont WA :(

  • Still some at PO in Kmart Plaza Cannon Hill, Bris.

PS The 500GB came as USB3 not 2 as stated above.

  • I picked up a Verbatim usb3 500gb for $29 from Reynella PO, SA. They had one left. Wanted something for photo backup. Dont know much about current Verbatim gear.

    • Apparently a good brand but backup is still advisable as things break. My 2c.

  • Did anyone find the Post Office code for the USB3.0 500GB one?
The USB 2.0 version's code is 89817 for example.

    • No, but I used the 89817 code and got USB3 for $30. I got them held through the AUPO Ph line, cs was great. If code is in the packaging tell me where and I'll look.

PS The box has the bar code crossed out and handwritten 89817 code above it. USB3 500GB unit.

      • Thanks MarkB4 - weirdly my local had the exact same thing with the 89817 written in pen but they scanned it at $69.95

        • Try a different 'local' if you can. The first one I went to wanted 69.95 too, but I think it was a different packaging.

  • None in Melville LPO, Myaree PostShop or Booragoon PostShop (WA).

  • +4

will be nice if OP can update the clearance items… here are list of items on clearance after went to Post Office few hours ago

    (89817) 2.5" 500GB USB2.0 - $29.99 (USB3.0 Same Price)

    (89817) 2.5" 500GB USB3.0 - $29.99

    3.5" 1TB USB2.0 - $29.99

    (22078) 2.5" 1TB USB3.0 - $49.99

    3.5" 2TB USB3.0 - $49.99

    3.5" 3TB USB2.0 - $69.99

will be great if someone can tell me which is best value?? I was having dilemma and the staff said they are closing soon and asked me to come again tmr and promise hold one each for me.. Which one is the best value to get?? I'm picking up tomorrow morning.

    • Done and IMO i would go for the 3TB HDD

      • but 2TB one is USB3.0, is USB3.0 much better value? will it get USB3.0 speed with USB2.0 from my laptop? my laptop doesn't support USB3.0

        • If your laptop doesnt support 3.0 you will only get 2.0 transfer speeds

      • Actually 2tb 3.5 as its usb 3.0

    • Thanks ccwwayne.
I think there is something weird going on with the Post Offices SKU for the 500GB USB3.0 model. (see above) It seems there are two different barcodes- one for the USB2.0 model and one for the USB2/3 model but they sometimes share the same (89817) code, sometimes not. As noted above by MarkB4 they appear to have written the 89817 code in pen on some boxes so its random luck whether they attempt to charge you $29.99 or $69.99 like me.

      • I think doesn't matter the 500GB is USB3.0 or USB2.0, the 2.5" 1TB USB3.0 for $20 extra is better value

        • But I got the USB3 for the $30, same as for USB2.

        • isn't it better $20 extra double the memory size??

        • Yes, but they didn't have any. Lucky to get what I did. And what a deal, all sorts for cheap.

  • +1

    WTF?
    where is everyone finding these??
I've been to Burnside, City Cross, King William Street, and Kent Town in Adelaide. None of them have these.
    Broden must've gotten there first…

    • i went to city cross, king william, kent town.. looking for western digital

    • I rang Aus Post and their CS wasa excellent. Shannon found what I wanted where I wanted it. Couldn't ask more. Ring their # and see if you have same luck.

      • +1

Alright guys, I called up and the woman on CS told me a bloke named Broden had ordered them from all the AusPosts around the city.

There's only stock (of both 500gb and 1tb) left at the following APOs in SA:
        Edwardstown
        Morphett Vale
        Strathalbyn
        Brighton
        Glenelg
        Victor Harbour

  • is there any way this portable drive usefull to upgrade laptop hdd?

  • Anyone managed to pick one up in SA?

    • I got the 1tb usb3 at findon. They had 1 left at close yesterday. Also had the verbatim 500gb for $29.99

  • The lady in my local PO searched the stock codes and told me stock levels in surrounding POs.
    Basically none nearby.

    • +1

why bother telling us this crap when you dont even say which area?

  • +1

went to Melbourne City(3 stores), Chadstone, Malvern

    all without stocks :(

  • Just came back from North Sydney store, they have 2TB and 3TB in stock. However the prices are different. 2TB for $89 and 3TB for $139. I think they might just have corrected the price last night.

  • just got back from carlisle st (balaclava) - they dont have any of these prices…. :(

  • 3 x 500GB left @ Rosebery after I bought 1 & resisted buying all of them :-)
    1 x 2TB left @ Maroubra after I bought 2 x 3TB

    • All gone at maroubra, said there were two when I called up the PO, all gone

      • he turned around

  • Picked up a 2.5 1TB 2.0 from Watergardens, Vic, lady said that this was the last one she had. Early this morning I called the call centre and enquired with CS, she stated they had stock of the above mentioned type but quoted prices as advertised ones in catalogue, so it pays to check in store. Thanks OP !

  • +1

3TB Usb2.0 model code is 26153. Just picked up one from Croydon Victoria.

  • Bought the 3TB USB2.0 for $69.99 in Brissie this morning. Almost no stock of 2 & 3TB in SE Qld.
    Other deal at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104781#comment-1414960

  • I got a Verbatim 500gb 2.5" from my local auspost for $29.95

  • Still 1 2TB USB3 or 1TB portable $50 at Carindale, Brissie.
(Moved to cnr Pine Mountain & Creek Rd - not at Westfield any more)
Don't forget your ING PayWavew for 5% off!

  • Grab one 2.5" 500gb and 3.5" 1T in St Albans for $30 each, they still have one 2.5" 500gb and a Verbatim 500gb left.

  • Anyone know if there's stock of any 2.5" around Melb CBD?

    • There were some Verbatim 500Gb ones from the Elizabeth st PO yesterday.

      • Awesome. Will scope it out.

      • *

  • nvm

  • I just came from the Brisbane cbd branches and the cso told me the original prices that were listed are the true prices and supposedly they got an email today saying the $50 and $30 prices were incorrect!… I walked 20 mins each way just to be told that….I didn't bother arguing since there was a long line…maybe I should have…. Has that happened to anyone else?

    • sounds probable based on what the Chick at Collins St Melb told me (basically the same thing)

    • +2

Needs to be old stock (yellow & white box as in the photo) - just get it scanned.
At 9am there was NO OLD STOCK in Brissie CBD anyway, so they are correct about new stock price.

Was told it was the marked price at Carindale, Brissie. I just asked them to scan the old stock after being told the 3TB was $139 but scanned at $69.99 - different stock numbers. They found they had 2 old 2TB out the back ($49.99) after checking stock at other POs.

      • hmm.. ok I remember these were not yellow so maybe she was trying to get my off her back. Green must be the new ones?

        • That is correct & at marked prices.
Only 4 2TB & 3 3TB at 9am today in whole of SE Qld! (1/2 those minutes walk from me - bought 1 of each)
*My statement above about no old stock was limited to 2TB & 3TB (difficult posting with 2 deals about same stock at same time!!)

      • Old stock has different Aust Post Stock codes:
        2TB 24540
        3TB 26153
If they look up the new stock codes - of course there is no stock at these reduced prices.

        • +1

Just went through some dramas…Went back to the same branch because it was the same yellow box as like the photo..cso told me it scanned at the higher price…….BUT that is not the drama, 2 other cso s had a go at me because i asked to scan it, I felt humiliated!.. No kidding! I will post details when I get to my laptop (using a phone now)

        • Sounds bad the ladies where i have my PO BOX are the nicest ladies i have ever dealt with auspost very friendly and helpful

  • Picked up a 1tb for $49.95! Thanks OP! Also they had a verbatim USB 3 500gb for $19.95 it was pink coloured so I passed on that buy..

    • +2

For $19.95 I wouldt of mind it was pink lol

  • Just came back from checking Mascot and Rosebery PO's there both been cleaned out on all old stock only the new Green packaging they have now lol :)

  • No stock in Byford or Armadale Shopping Centre PO. Armadale did have a single 3tb usb3 desktop drive in the yellow box but it scanned at 139 down from 189 so nothing special there.

  • +1

Got shafted by the scumbags at Canberra GPO (Alinga St) yesterday - the nice head office lady got them to put aside 3 of the 1TB 2.5' ones with my name and phone number but when we rocked up, they totally denied anyone rang them and said they didn't have any in stock. We know what happened here obviously…. Grrrrrrrr

    • +1

      Staff kept it for themselves….

      • Maybe not - sounds like a system stuff up within Aust Post, but probably nothing to do with that Post Office (non-existent stock error / communication failure). Still annoying.

    • We know what happened here obviously…. Grrrrrrrr

Very annoying, but think you may be a bit harsh on Canberra GPO staff. There may be another way of viewing this problem… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104781?page=1#comment-14173…

  • My local still has one of the same 1TB drives in the picture, however theirs scans > $100 and they won't go any lower… bizarre… I have to walk past it most days so I'm gonna keep my eye on it :P

    • Not much use looking at the boxes or shelf price - its the scanned price that matters.
If it is not a corporate PO (no catalog specials), then sells for price shown on shelf.
Ask to scan & get the stock number. It may not match those discounted.
Even if old stock (yellow & white packaging), it may be wrong code (eg new stock).

  • tried an aust post offce branch in perth, no old stock

  • Thanks for this deal. Managed to find what looks like the last $50 blue and white box seagate 1tb 2.5" usb3.0 hard drive at my local post office this morning.

  • none for that price at my local AusPost, $85 for a 500gig and $130 for a 1TB, might try joyce mayne that are shutting down here with up to 50% off.

    • Try Officeworks or Bing Lee. They have Western Digital Elements 1tb portable for $67 and $69 respectively.
