Road Bike Wheelset deals from $40

240

Just spent a bit of time researching cost of replacing a cracked wheel. Was shocked at some ebayers wanting significantly more than new items. Sharing my findings so others', inc MAMILs, don't get stung. The $235 Vuelta Superlites is the standout deal below. Pls post if you know anymore ~$250 deals.

$50/$100 Shimano WH-R501 wheelset 1884grams 24mm 20H/24H. Best thing is they sell the individual front/rear for $50 each. Low price due to Goldcross doing 50% off their regular prices. Some mixed stock available at Chadstone, Knox and Cranbourne in VIC.

$40 Alex Quando DA16 ~2100grams 21mm 32H/32H. Thief deterring boat-anchor rims good to build massive leg quads.

  • I have the Pro-lite Bracciano and love em. Did the same and got from overseas as cheaper that way

    • Heard good things about the Pro-lite Braccaiano. Can you look at the Vuelta Corsa Superlite listing and see if they appear to be the same thing but with better triple-butted spokes? The specs listing looks very similar. If so they are a real bargain at $235-shipped on the current torpedo7 sale.

      • "Compatibility: Shimano/ Sram 9/10-speed compatible"

current bracciano's are 9/10/11 speed compatible.
        happy with my bracciano's

        • Means you have 2014 stock. That's according to the Pro-lite Bracciano AUS page:

New 2014 stock is here now! All Shimano compatible Bracciano stock purchased from today 09/05/2013 is now Shimano 11sp compatible. We include a spacer for those riders using 8/9/10 speed, great news is you can buy your Bracciano now and transfer them onto a future bike. The good news for riders with older stock is that you just need to swap the freehub to change to 11sp in the future, we have the parts for this on hand.*

    • Got a pair of Braccianos as well, $280 from CRC when on spesh. Light and strong - 90kg rider.

Thanks so much for posting. Appreciate all your hard work. Thanks again.

  • the Reid Alex Quando DA16 that came with the Falco bike I bought weigh 1kg front and 1.4kg rear without skewers and tyres so 2.4kg, no joke!

Got a Fulcrum 7 set for $155 from Wiggle during a recent sale. What a difference at 1.85kg, the wheels themselves feel great too.

    • Reid should consider how many (primarily) unbalanced male's they'll be producing. Pushing so much weight around will gain them massive leg quads!! Added the Fulcrum 7's to the list.

  • You can support your local bike seller eg www.bikebug.com.au who have pretty good prices eg

    Fulcrum Racing 7s $202 http://www.bikebug.com/wheels-accessories-fulcrum-racing-7-c…

    Fulcrum Racing Quattro AU$325 http://www.bikebug.com/wheels-accessories-fulcrum-racing-qua…

    Pick up from North Sydney.

This should go on the wiki. Very good information and great work on assembling it.

  • Campagnolo Zonda Clincher: $400.42

    With Voucher code Paypal20

  • Thank you. I've added some of the suggestions to the shortlist in the original post.

Heads up!! After being SOLD out Monday/Tuesday, torpedo7 is showing orderable stock again of the Vuelta Superlites. https://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/VVWHSNNSL/title/vuelta-…

A very good deal at AUD$235-shipped with the newby34 $10-off coupon when you consider that even Chinese vendors Carbonality and Yushin sell a similar ~1500gram 27mm 20H/24H set for > US$300-delivered.

EDIT: the Vuelta Superlites are sold out again. Bugger.

    • Dam! spewin I misted it again

      • Took Toredo7 rep's advice to keep recheck the Vuelta Superlite listing for stock to arrive. Seems I got lucky when the 1-2 returns got relisted last night. Think I got the last one. Sooo looking forward to getting them. All reviews being super positive.

  • Anyone tried the Halo Mercury they seem a good price and reviews look pretty good

    • With the Vuelta Superlites sold out, the $199 Easton EA50s, $224 Fulrcrum 5s or $235 Vuelta R4s would have been my < $250 pick. All are < 1760gram with the preferred 20H/24H spoke arrangement for greater wheel strength and longevity.

The Halo Mercurys caught my eye too but the 16H front a turn off. It makes the wheelset look light but the rear is relatively heavy at 975gram. There is a listing for a new set of the Mercurys on gumtree.com.au (SA) for $199. The seller is offloading them and keeping his Vuelta Superlites.

      • Think I might pay a bit extra and get the Shimano WH-RS80-C24-CL or the Pro-lite Bracciano but I have Shimano groupset and the one on CRC is for campy

        • If no go with CRC then it's $419 locally for the Shimano Bacciano .

In my investigation I also found a custom 27mm 20H/24H 1590gram wheelset for $284-shipped on ebay-AU http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271231773761 . Would use the same 27mm Kinlin rims as the Chinese built Superlite/Braccianos. Maybe even cheaper if can do local pickup in Sydney? I'll add it to the list.

          Or $320-shipped custom 30mm 20H/24 1587gram wheelset with Novatec A291F292 hubs from China: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/28106943044

        • Yeah I think the Shimano RS80 is a bit better at the same price.
Yeah not to sure about custom made rims.
Also looking at Campagnolo Scirocco 35 from wiggle for $274.73 after 20% discount with coupon
          http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-scirocco-35-clincher-whee…
          Cheers for ur research

        • WH-RS80-C24-CL = great reviews and look hot. At $405-shipped they are cheaper than the locally-sourced Braccianos too.

        • Yeah think they come to $415 as its 25 bucks delivery and after 10 buck discount

        • Fixed. Good find with the Campagnolo Scirocco 35s. Great reviews on wiggle for them.

        • Think I might give it a day if the Vuelta Corsa Superlite come advailable again will get that else I will get the WH-RS80 or the Campagnolo Scirocco 35s reviews do look good for the price but havent heard of them other then the reviews in there

        • Sounds a plan. Pls do post a review on BNA if you go the Campagnolo Scirocco 35s. Seems a great wheelset for the price.
