That better have what I want in stock otherwise I'm going straight to the forums all Karen.

    • +2

I didn't realize what the deal was with this sale until I accidently went opening day last year..
I had just started riding to work, so I figured I'd grab some gloves/goggle things for the winter months; and it was like every one of those cliche American Black Friday videos with people ripping apart displays everywhere with the whole family+kids along :/

And this is in QLD where we don't even have a proper Winter/Ski scene! Never seen an Aldi that busy.

  • +10

The upvote is more for the pram (and the picture), than the actual deal :)

    • +5

Cheers. Don't worry, I checked to see if anyone was around and waited a few minutes before taking a copy just in case the owner retuned.

P.S. If the pram owner is reading this, sorry and I did wait to ask!!

    • +1

      Too right lol!

  • +3

Upvote for going the extra mile to find this bargain!

    • +1

Was walking home from work, iykykyk

      • Might be confused but don't you work at the airport?

        • +1

          Nope your not confused…..

          • @HamBoi69: No I'm not

How do you walk home from an airport?

            • +1

@Muzeeb: Bus, transport, suburbs etc etc

            • @Muzeeb: With your feet?

              • @MonkDog: I gathered from their AMA that they worked at Melbourne airport. It's next to impossible to walk home from Melbourne airport safely.

  • Thankfully it's not a seniors snow gear sale. I'm in with a chance!

  • +1

Sorry for the dumb question, we're going to go to NZ in Sept-Oct. We're not going skiing, but some of the natural attractions are apparently quite cold.
Would any of these jackets be a good buy?

    • +3

I find them to be good wind breakers yes, and waterproof. If you specifically after warm jackets, may I suggest the OzB favourite MacPac Halo?

      • Can confirm, went to Queenstown in Sep a few years ago and wore the MacPac Halo for most of the trip, was really nice and kept me warm.

    • It's overkill for your purpose. Just use good quality winter jacket with layers…

      • +6

I live in Perth, I don't have a winter jacket!

        • +1

Just go for a rain and windproof jacket and layer up.

    • +2

Yeh they're quite warm and water resistant. Maybe not super fashionable.

    • +1

Can confirm I’ve had 3 snow seasons (at least 5-15 days per year) of usage out of the non-premium Aldi pants/jacket. Very cost effective. Very happy with how the 12000/10000 waterproof/windproof held up. Would recommend for the snows as it’s cheaper than hiring after only a few days to a week of use.

If you can layer up with existing clothes rather than buying these, you can save some money. Or layer with existing and buy another suitable jacket you’ll wear more often than this :) probably more stylish than these too

      • +2

They don't hold up well for park stuff especially the pants. 2 seasons and the zippers are either stuck or broken and the seams start tearing…

        • +1

Yeah good point. I’m pretty new to the park so nothing serious. Have stacked it my fair share while learning but no issues here. YMMV I guess. Would definitely get this stuff over hiring, and would give it ago before sending hundreds and hundreds for proper gear imo. Depends on use and luck haha

        • Yup single stitch seems and lack of gussets in many areas.

Not designed to last, but at least the materials are roughly equivalent to things triple the price

      • -1

One season for me, 20-30 days. Seams tearing and zippers broken. Never again.

        • +4

20 to 30 days is a lifetime's skiing for most of us.

      • been a while since I have been, last time I was boiling hot in actual ski gear

I only really wanted it when standing around waiting for lifts to open or sitting on a cold ski lift seat, you really feel it in hiking pants

if I go this year, im going to take only a windproof jacket and hiking pants or dirt bike pants which has some foam on the ass + protective gear

    • +1

Look at the soft shell or fleece jackets on pages 18 and 19

    • +7

On the whole ski jackets are wind and waterproof but not super warm (because you are, well, skiing and charging around creating heat). They are definitely warmer than not having a jacket, but nowhere near as warm as a down jacket if you are just standing around looking at a view. Also ski jackets they tend to be heavy (all that waterproofing and abrasion resistance etc). Down jackets like the halo are much better for travelling (warmer, lighter and pack down really small). Aldi does a lightweight down jacket which is excellent for travel especially in the transition months like spring, but I dont know when those are on sale. The down side of down is that they arent waterproof, so you still need a waterproof jacket.

the other good option is windproof fleece, but they are as/more expensive than down.

For your travels Aldi is good to get some fleece beanies, gloves (not the ski gloves, the fleece ones), maybe a neck warmer, some wool socks perhaps (although possum fur socks are common in NZ and are 'the best'). Just in case

      • Thanks, this is supremely useful.

Is it going to snow in Brisbane?

  • +2

Alright so what you do is take a trolley fill it up with everything then go to the corner and sort through sizes and items you actually want

    • +3

Or just buy multiple sizes, go home, return the ones you don't want the following day.

    • +1

Can confirm I’m scum and have done this when I went to stock up

  • Marked in Calendar. Do regular Aldi shop on Friday

  • +1

Aldi Ringwood employs a guard just for this sale.

    1. Make a shopping list.
    2. Enrol in an offensive martial art course.
    3. Arrive Early
    4. Profit.
    • An offensive martial art - will Blow Job Jitsu suffice?

  • +1

I highly recommend the thermoboots - wore them last year on my ski trip to Japan. They were great hiking boots too - wore them walking up to the Snow Monkey Park and did not slip on the muddy snow slush trail.

    • do you think gor tex hiking boots/trail runners would have done the job?

If you live where it snows I can see these would be a no brainer but do that many aussies live in snowy conditions during the winter or is it nice to have a couple of times for a couple of years then they fall apart and go to land fill?

  • +2

When you see this years full price adult lift tickets esp peak weekend prices, there won't even be spare change left to buy Aldi snow gear!

    • +1

… and that's without any snow either this season!

      • +1

Most of the VIC snow fields are running the snow makers early already to stock pile base coats of snow.

Insane cost in water and diesel.

Lake mountains machines can burn through 600k litres a day and that's a pretty small field.

And it's been a terrible rainfall leading up to the season.

        RIP Aussie snow seasons

Look on fb marketplace first. Full of aldi ski clothes. Most probably used only a few times.

    • meh, aldi is already cheap and its brand new

  • What can I do to ensure I don't miss out here? I can't remember the last time I bought anything from Aldi's special buys…

  • Would the woodfire pizza oven reach 450C?

    • it will but it requires a fair bit of fuel so much that the room left for the pizza is reduced

    • yes it does in direct sunlight in the summer 40c

  • Do they sell a merino t-shirt too?

    • not sure, click the link and check

  • There was a huge line outside my local hahahaha

Columbia has 30% off store wide rn and you don't have to go and fight the masses every year to replace their stuff

  • Anaconda has a snow gear sale on at the moment if your local ALDI has no stock. Prices are similar for kids snow gear.

  • Just got back from my local Aldi, was 2nd in line and not many people there at all, very limited stock with only one of each size in the clothing.

I loaded up on the merino wool accessories, I’ve skied in Japan with the base layers for the past 4 years and can highly recommend them along with the ski masks, neck warmers and glove liners etc. Going to try out the thermal boots and then return all the stuff I don’t need later lol.

  • No queue and plenty of stock at Ringwood VIC :)

  • Plenty of stock at Chadstone Aldi
