Logitech Z906 $238.20 JB HI-FI (in-Store Only/Limited Stock)

290

Cheapest price at the moment from a B&M store and cheapest online i could find.
This has been posted twice on ozbargain in past reviews are mixed you decide heading down to pick up a set tomorrow.

You could price match over at Officeworks on back order (they have it for $377) so works out to $226.91 after 5% if you can wait, I myself am feeling kinda sorry for the managers and call centres over at Officeworks over recent DSE price matching that ive decided to give them a break and pay full price lol.

  • Whats the need to have a hdmi in/out?
I have a WDTV can i use optical out to these speakers and would it play back decode all sound??

    • yes

      • I own a pair of Z623 they punch out powerful bass but lack in treble department do you know if these speakers have clearer treble? thanks

        • i only own the z4 (replaced by z623) and z5500 (replaced by z906) so can only comment on what I've heard at friends houses as i have mates who one both of them speakers and can say yes the z906 will be a fair bit better in the treble department, especially since there are 3 more mid range driver. An important thing to remember is that almost all their speakers are well known for that 'logitech' bass that leaves the mids sounding a bit muddy at times. i find with my z5500 and z906 though that this can be overcome easier with the few tuning options included in the pod

        • Thanks for the input was dead set on these speakers researching net the Z5500 keeps popping up, the Z906 sub is tiny compared to the Z5500. Have $200 gift card and dont want to part with to much cash, so should i get it or not??
Will be using it to watch movies only via WDTV.

        • Its not even worth going with surround sound at such a crap budget. Youd be much better off with an av reciever hooked up to a set of floorstanders. Save your money, logitechs audio gear is embarassing

Have to agree with this. The Sub on the z5500 was good but the speakers were below average. This has pretty much the same speakers with a smaller sub.

You can get a pair of bookshelf speakers for about $80 from the JBHIFI sales that blow the logitech speakers away, then you just have to hook it up to a cheap, 2nd hand amp (check ebay/gumtree)

You'll miss out on some of the bass without the sub but those bookshelf speaker provide enough bass for a startout until you can find a good sub later on.

That said, if you want something that works out of the box without fuss this isn't a bad unit. Just keep in mind that when it's out of warranty, Logitech will not service/replace individual parts. During warranty they replace the whole parts like speakers, sub, etc(they actually glue the internal parts in so they can't be serviced, only replaced). After warranty they sometimes offer a small discount on a new speaker system if your unit breaks.

        • Excellent advice, Gunner, you've clearly been through the drill with Logitech.

2 mate's Z5500s carked it due to the incredibly sensitive (non-fused) pod and Logitech would do nothing except offer a discount on a new system. One of the mates bought a secondhand unit off ebay for $160 which failed immediately - the sound would start out fine but the volume kept increasing over the next 30 seconds until the whole system shut down out of fear. Buyer beware.

    • For speaker setup of 6 and above for surround sound, you would need HDMI. This is where the Optical and Digital Coaxial RCA would show their age.

    • You could also go optical out from your tv. So all sound from the tv would go to the speakers.

Sorry that's assuming your tv has optical out.

    • MODs call i wouldnt say its a dupe, that post does not specify a particular product and price, just states more or less store sale.??

    • This varies, the dupe comment is valid, but depending on the demand of the deal. Example. Catalog was released with Woolworth species, but TightArse pointed out that coke was only 52c per can (24x 375ml $12.xx)

id say it deserves its own post, was hardly mentioned in there

      • I second that. This speaker needs its own post.

        • +1

Ok i'm cool with that, just pointing out that there's an existing deal from Jb-hifi, it's mod's call.

Anyway here's another deal that you might be interested and might deserved a separate post:

          http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/pioneer/600-watt-5-1-c…

        • JB hifi always have these systems on sale was leaning on this setup or the Z906 imho i believe the sound from this pioneer system might not sound as good as the Z906 quality though the amp might be ok but the speaker seem like an after thought.

Some online reviews rate the predecessors (z680 and z5500) being a bit better.
Not meaning to hijack, but i'm looking to offload my z680's, PM me if interested (Sydney pickup).

  • I bought one of these ex display today from Tuggeranong store Canberra because they said no one have them in stock Australia wide is that true can anyone confirm that ?

  • Very little stock oz wide and not on re-order apparently

  • Hi can someone please confirm rear speaker wire length please says 1.82 metre on logitech web site.

    • I believe it is 1.82m. The connectors are standard RCA so you can use a standard RCA extension cable if you need more length.

      • Hmm k that might be deal breaker that saves me parting with my gift card n cash, This after all was meant to target market of home theatre setup yet only supply 1.82m !

        • It's very small but if you need longer than 1.82m cable then probably avoid this unit. It's designed more for PC/Small room use.

      • there are no speaker wire connectors, they are just standard speaker wire, defiantly no RCA if thats what your talking about.
From memory i believe it is longer than 1.82m, try look around a bit more for it.. check youtube videos of them setup even.
Speaker wire is so cheap anyway it would only be a few $ if you wanted them longer

EDIT: see comment below, more like 5m apparently

        • Can confirm matt.shep this system uses normal speaker wires not rca type wire lengths look to be 5-7m long.

        • correct

      • Pretty sure there is no RCA connector for these speakers?

Had a quick look, refer to screenshot of the back of the sub on this website:
        http://www.trustedreviews.com/logitech-z906_Surround-Sound-S…

I purchased separate longer length speaker wires for the rear speakers on my set of z5400

        Edit: didn't refresh while replying…!

  • Don't buy online.

I ordered a mouse pad 7 days ago… no confirmation/shipping or anything yet.

  • Bought these at DSE for 279 last month, and very happy with them. Rear speaker wire length is closer to 5 metres I think, definitely more than 1.82 metres.

Only downside I found is the plastic finish looks a bit cheaper than the z5500, and no HDMI. I run toslink out from the tv and get very clear sound. Although there are better systems out there this is still a great value setup.

  • Seems there out of stock everywhere can confirm no stock in Bankstown and Liverpool JB HIF

  • Says offer is now expired

    • Went in bankstown store price was $397, online showing $238.20 no option to back order or purchase n pickup available just info only.

      • try another jbhifi, my local store will always price match their own site if their store prices are off. if all else fail maybe officeworks has stock?

  • Ow head office said they don't price match of their stock is on back order. Meh

  • Gday did anyone purchase a set from JB HI FI or Office works? thanks waiting for your reply.

    • I got the floor stock at jb knox VIC
Guy said all stores nearby only had floor stock according to his database

    • I picked up one from Canberra Tugg store, i also picked up ex display unit, they said no one have them in store Au wide, I paid $225 though, overall I am very very happy from outcome they sound great I had z506 before and they're far far more better then that :)

  • I used to have a set and was pretty happy with the sound. Sold them though as pc now in main lounge area with new surround system.

If I were buying speakers again just for a pc I would prefer just getting some Audio Engine A5+ though, however not as good a price as above right now hehe.

  • fyi the JB hifi on george st, parramatta sydney has no stock left though there system says 2 left me and staff checked whole shop and storeroom cant explain. I wonder if he left it in storeroom only to get it himself after work lol.

  • Got ex display from JB HIFI westfield shopping ! Boy am i happy for the price above its a steal ive spent over $4500 on Yamaha speakers and amp in my earlier days (15 years ago) i had to get rid of it took up way to much room. These speakers do a great job i would recommend it if you could get your hands on one for this price.
