So no Quantas Rewards program for Platinum card holders

Guys, dumb question but is there any protection for transactions being made if your card is stolen?

I don't really need the 15k min limit for the signature card (but I still want that card lol) so the only thing that's making me uneasy is if some idiot steals my card and racks up 15k on it, then what?

    • You can possibly limit the daily transactions on the card. You could also just use it for online and phone banking, whereby you won't be liable for any fraudulent transactions.

    • same as any Visa card - if you don't do anything dumb, and report it stolen as soon as you notice, not your problem.

    • same boat here.

  • Can someone confirm if this Citi Signature card is the actual signature card or stripped off version . I understand the card gives you insurances etc but does it have
    1. Concierge services
    2. Does it come with the Complimentary Priority Pass Membership and two airport lounge visits per year
    3. finally can i revert back and forth between Citi rewards and Qantas
and finally if i cancel my existing CC with NAB , will i be losing the extended warranty of the products purchased with my CC ?

Thank you very much OP, great deal. Just got my NAB qantas premium card with the first year fee wavered , will cancel it next year.

      1. finally can i revert back and forth between Citi rewards and Qantas and finally if i cancel my existing CC with NAB , will i be losing the extended warranty of the products purchased with my CC ?

no, but make sure you have the receipts and relevant NAB statements somewhere.

      • So … I have westpac krisflyers plat … and bought air ticket and electronic stuffs … so does that mean I can still cancel the card and yet make use of the insurance?

    • I'm keen to know this as well… Is this card the full deal or a stripped down version.

Particularly interested in priority pass membership.

  • Wanting a credit card for the first time, was wondering if I should go with
This or go for one with 55 days interest free?
Planning to pay all debt at the end of the billing month.

Also if I were to get this credit card and go with the QFF, do the points expire after
    A certain time?

Sorry for the silly questions. Quite the noob with credit cards, I just want one so I can at least
Build a bit of a credit history

    • Those cards also have 55 days interest free

      • Also if I were to get this credit card and go with the QFF, do the points expire after A certain time?

        no

Build a bit of a credit history

not really a thing in australia (yet) - all your credit file has is name, addresses, employers, applications (no mention of rejected or accepted) and Bad Things.

Just checked my application status here:

    http://www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/check_app_status.htm

Says "We are pleased to advise that your recent application for a Citibank Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature has been approved."

I got an email yesterday asking to email some docs (passport, payslips etc), then another one earlier today asking to fax or mail those same docs, and saying I was conditionally approved…anyone else have the same email / status?

    • Mine says approved too.

They'll send the card out after they get all the doco and confirm everything on the form to be true.

      • Sweet - hopefully this comes through :)

    • I sent my documents to them via email yesterday too.
Just received an email saying I'd been approved about 2 minutes ago.
Have to wait for everything to come in the mail and to find out the credit limit they've applied.

I am delighted to advise that your new PLATINUM CARD application has been approved. Everything you need to start using your account - your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and account guide - will be with you shortly.

We will send you details of your approved credit limit in the mail with your credit card. The credit limit we >offer you will be based on our assessment of your capacity and may be lower than your maximum credit limit, if >you wrote one on your application form.

    • Just to let people know, I got a call asking for documents showing dividends/interest as well. He was happy to submit without that verified income, but said that it might impact the credit limit for the card.

  • Can anyone advise if it is possible to have an X amount of balance transfer at 0% and Y amount of normal purchases but only pay off the purchases balance Y) in full on due date every month so as not to incur the interest but not pay off the balance trabnsfer as it is 0% anyway…effectively paying no interest on the acccount each month?

    • NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE - I think this might be possible, since the law changed so that banks had to take payments towards any interest-bearing portion of a balance first ahead of anything else. But having said that I don't know how balance transfers normally work so don't go by what I said…

      • Right…but dustynn pointed below 55 interest free days will not apply..Thanks anyway

    • You'll lose the interest free day feature if the card is not paid in full.

      • I think you are right, only purchases balance will be paid in full, not the account balance. Therefore purchases will still incur interest. Best not to use the credit card with Balance transfer for anything else. Thanks

  • What's the minimum credit limit for the platinum card? I want to maximize the balance transfer amount, how much should I put when asking for the balance transfer. I don't qualify for the signature, so does this card actually charge the fee for additional cardholders? Thanks

    • $6000, ask them.

Anyone else heard nothing back? My application just says processing, I have other accounts with citi.

    • Been with them for 5 years. Already have signature card, I applied for another signature . Got "conditionally" approved. They rang me to verify details and to send stuff in. She said I will get confirmation in next 2-4days.

So Ill just wait and see what happens lol.

  • I got a call super early this morning and got asked about what my job title was and that the minimum credit limit was $15k, seems I didn't have to send any sort of documentation to them.

  • Apart from the insurance, what are the benefits of having a credit card? (as opposed to a visa debit card with anz?)

    • Credit cards can help with you manage your cash flow. You are able to buy things before you have the cash yet or put the cash elsewhere until your bill is due. (usually it's a 55 days interest-free period)

Having a good credit rating may also help you get loans in the future. (if you pay your debts on time)

  • Applied for signatures the other day got the call saying min credit limit is 15k so I said yes but then got an email saying got approved for platinum?? Really no point getting another platinum since I already have one for 5 years no annual fee for life. Has anyone fax into citibank to request a reassessment and got signature on the end?

    • -1

Funny, How can they give you a card you didn't apply for?

Best we do a screen shot of the zero fees for life. How do I do a screen shot?

    • print as pdf

  • Applied yesterday night, faxed the docs this morning and received a call this afternoon with approval.

  • Applied for the platinum on Monday night and received conditional approval straight away. However, after they had called me and my employer and I had sent in my payslips, I was rejected today as I hadn't been employed for more than two years (I'm a recent graduate and been at my current job for 10 months, although I did hold a part time job through uni).

Anyone else had similar a experience? I've been told I can ask to have my application re-assessed, but I'm not sure if that will get me anywhere..

  • My 1st email was telling me it is being processed; then this am I emailed through all the necessary documents … then I get another email saying conditional approved
but the email still asking me to fax or send hardcopy of the details.

do I need to do that or shall I wait for them to call me and my payroll dept for verification?

    • Same happened with me.

Spoke to them via chat, and they said there is no need to fax or post if you have already emailed previously.

  • How do people get around the mandatory field for home phone number? Don't they know that some people use mobiles rather than landlines?

  • I called Citi today to ask if i have to fax documents for additional card holder too. Surprise surprise..they have already approved and the card will be dispatched in 4-5 working days. I asked the customer rep to confirm if its a approval or conditional approval as i've received an confirmation email for conditional approval only. But she then gave me the last four digits of the card. I was shocked..again asked her on how could they approve a card without me providing any identification…answer..they have credit agency and background checking etc. Can they really do that ? I have a transaction account with Citi which has 50 bucks in it for 2 years and i did not mention that in my application. Guess have to wait it out.

    • Same. I actually got the email of full approval 1.5hr before another email asking for documents. Probably out of sync. Haven't sent a single document.

  • Surprised to get a call saying don't bother with the documents it's approved but the minimum limit is $15k, I had applied for $5k… Can i assume i have a good credit rating? Or are they not doing proper due diligence?

I applied on Tuesday immediately after i saw this post.
Then found out i need to send them my payslip, bills, driving lisence and ……., so i left it and went to work.
but they rang me yesterday morning and received this email just before 12pm (Wed 20/11/2013 11:59):
"I am delighted to advise that your new SIGNATURE CARD application has been approved. Everything you need to start using your account - your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and account guide - will be with you shortly."

i was so impressed by their service……..until i received another email at Wed 20/11/2013 15:07:
    "Application Ref: #########
Your application is in progress, we just need a few things from you.
The next step is to verify your identity and income details.
You need to send us copies of one document per column from the table below.
Please send documents, together with your name and application ID to:"
    :(
Then i went to their website and checked my application:
    "Application Status Enquiry
We are pleased to advise that your recent application for a Citibank Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature has been approved.
Thank you for choosing Citibank Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature. Citibank will contact you shortly."

Well, i am still impressed by their service…….at least at this stage ;)

    • Just received this Sms from citibank
“We have received your application. To ensure that we process it ASAP please refer to the email we have sent you.”
      :(

      • I don't see any inconsistancy with what they have said….it's approved based on (and subject to) what they have been told on the appliation.

    • Same, and got confirmation of enrolment for electronic statements, and then an SMS asking for documents. Very interesting…

The travel insurance, does it cover only the card holder or the passengers in the same airline ticket?

If thas for only the card holder, so i should apply additional card for my mrs? How about the kids?

    • +1

https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/complimentary_insuran… . getting an additional card is of little use, since the insurance kicks on once the card is used to purchase the tickets, not just by possessing a card.

      • Thanks.
I downloaded the pdf file and found:
"You" refers to cardholder, spouse and dependent child.

    • +2

      http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/complimentary_insuranc…

Are my Spouse and Dependent Children also covered for International Travel Insurance?

If you are eligible for this insurance then this insurance is also available to your spouse and your dependent child/children (but not children born on the journey), who travel with you for the entire journey, provided their overseas travel tickets were also obtained by use of an eligible Citibank Credit card.

Please note the definition of "Spouse" and "Dependent Children":

"Spouse" means a married or defacto partner of the cardholder who is permanently living with the cardholder at the time the journey starts. We may ask for proof of this relationship.

"Dependent Child" means an unmarried child of a cardholder, up to and including the age of 21, who is primarily dependent on the cardholder for their maintenance and support and who travels with the cardholder for the entire journey or trip but does not include a child born on the journey or trip.

My unwanted Platinum card arrived yesterday with the Annual Fee showing as $199 even though it's meant to be $0 for life. Won't call them until they call me back regarding the reassessment for the Signature card.

    • This is worrying. Anyone else have this?

    • Good luck, Liski! I have sent my reassessment for signature yesterday too. Don't want to activate my useless platinum card either here…

  • 1) A relo has conditional approval pending docs being sent in, is that already on their credit file, or just when card is actually approved?

    2) If they change their mind, should they retract their app by phoning to cancel - will that remove from credit file, or could they just hope it will go away? Any advice experience plse?

    • 1) A relo has conditional approval pending docs being sent in, is that already on their credit file, or just when card is actually approved?

      already hit veda then.

will that remove from credit file, or could they just hope it will go away? Any advice experience plse?

no it won't go away for five years, same as any other application.

unless you apply for lots of cards (ie multiple per year), though, it doesn't matter.

  • Oh, I just called them regarding my existing Platinum card, they said they can apply the $0 annual fees for life without me doing any application online. But shame that my annual fees just paid last month which they can not reimbursed, only from next year onward.

    • +1

From others it is said that it cannot be transferred and that they have to reapply.

Welcome to citibank where the arse doesnt know what the mouth and body is doing.

I am an existing Citibank customer, and when I logged in to my account this morning, I can see my new Signature card has already been associated with my account!

The online checking tool says I am approved, but I have not received an email or phone call making it official…looks like it has gone through though.

Huge thanks to the OP - cracker deal :D

    • When did you finish your online application?

      • I applied online on Tuesday morning.

    • Thanks. Just logged in too. I applied for a Signature, but I can't tell if I got a Signature. Going through the online checking tool it says Signature, so I hope I got the signature… A few comments above people getting Platinum have me slightly worried.

      Checked my limit.
      Reaction "Oh God…!"

Way too high! I think I'll be putting a in a phone call to decrease it to the min allowed.

      • If you go into Search Rewards, there is a picture of the card…check against the pics here:

        http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/cards_signature.…

        http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/cards_platinum.h…

        • I haven't got my card yet. The online interface just says "Citibank Visa". I can't see if it's a Platinum or Signature. I'll just have to wait for the mail I suppose.

        • You should be able to click on Citibank® Visa, then click on Search Rewards on the right (might need to click this twice).

You can then see a pic of your card.

        • +1

Thanks for the tip! It's a Signature :D

I have never found the Citibank online banking easy to use.

      • why so many people worried about the high credit limit?
It's surely just a matter of self-control……and not checking out ozbargain too often.

        • +2

I think people are worried of what may happen if the card details end up in the wrong hands. But I think banks protect you from that reasonably well, as long as you inform them early.

        • +1

Because there's a risk of having a massive liability if it gets lost or stolen. Of course, you can usually get such losses refunded if you report it promptly, but that's still going to be very stressful.

        • +2

That, and the fact that if you apply for other credit in the future, they'll pretend that you've maxed your credit card out to the full limit (even if that is not the case).

        • I have great self-control. I have more trouble spending than saving unlike quite a few OzBargainers :P

Mostly I just don't like seeing such a high number. Also, it can impact on the home loan borrowings I want to apply for in the future.

  • Does anyone know if this is a visa signature card or citi signature with visa platinum card?

    • +2

it is a visa signature card. which is a pretty impressive devaluation - it's gone from "not even available in australia" to "available fee-free" in about 5 years. here's to free-for-life Citi Visa Infinite in 2018!

      • What does Visa Signature do that Visa Platinum dosent? I tried to find out online but no local Visa Signature page.

        • Apparently the signature comes with one more type of insurance that the platinum doesn't. Could someone enlighten us?

        • You also get Priority Pass membership, with two free visits each year, and being able to purchase visits for I think USD25 a pop after that. If you're going overseas sometime soon, chances are you're going through an airport covered by PP. Well worth it just for that.

        • No, I mean actual Visa Signature (as in the Visa designation) as opposed to Visa Platinum. I dont mean the Citibank cards specifically.

        • the visa signature travel thing sometimes has good value - pretty sure visa makes no specific demands of issuers aside from "it must actually be better than your platinum visa" card.

        • http://usa.visa.com/download/merchants/visa-international-op… has a range of details if you're interested. unfortunately most of the hard details seem to be in other, unpublished, documents.

    • LOL

  • Got no updates after 2 days, how long it takes for them to verify your income?

    • Same here. I emailed across a copy of my drivers licence and pay slips eventhough the CS who called me 2 days ago confirmed that I don't need to respond to the email requesting for documentation. The status still shows 'conditionally approved' and I do not know if they have approved the card that I applied for or if it's for a different card.

  • -5

anyone know when this promotion ends?

    • +1

Its in big letters on the page 'offer ends 31 December 2013'

      • +2

Part of me wants to apply earlier just incase they start changing the T&Cs after seeing hot hot this deal is going. Maybe applying later they'll be more stricter on accepting people?

        • This, that said, they've advertised the end date, would be hard to back out of (false advertising etc). But they could just make the credit application stricter.

  • Thanks OP - Excellent Deal. I applied on Tuesday and the card arrived in the mail today (Thursday). I was already a Citibank card holder so that helped speed up the approval process.

    • Which of the two that you get? I read that the Platinum approval was very quick, not so for Signature.

      • I got the Signature card. I was already a Platinum card holder so that may have helped.
