Farewell to OzBargain from theearth

Hi

After 1141 posts and 1058 comments I am retiring (Sadly) from posting any deal in the future.
I really have had enough of some arrogant Oz bargainers here. Selfishness and arrogant are on the rise.

May I also thank majority of My fellow Ozbargainers for their kindness and supports

For example….. Someone neg my post for invalid reason although my post was clearly correct at later time, that person never revoked his/her neg vote and just ignored it. in other word, hit and run(not taking any responsibility on his/her own action).

Reported to Mods to remove that invalid neg vote but no action from Mods.
My Post

My experience with posting the deals in Oz bargain taught me that My judgement was right on this deal.

Have a good evening all

PS
Unity, cornbeef, forma2,WNK.. Please keep up the good work
Thank you

We'll miss you, I can remember loving some of the Dominos deals you posted.

    • +5

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

  • +74

Hi theearth. Just read your post, and revoked my vote immediately. I had no idea the description was updated, as I wasn't keeping track of the comments on your post. So I apologise profusely.

I had a person at DSE online sales confirm what you posted was incorrect. What was I meant to do? I clearly stated I'd revoke the neg if someone gave me reason to. Again, my fault for not following up on the post. A quick message to my inbox would have fixed things immediately.

Anyway, I hope you have a change of heart :) Ozbargain needs more people like you. I can only hope to one day reach your heights. All the best - TA.

    • +9

      very honorable m8 :)

    • +17

      SRS BUSINESS

      • +13

Yeah, ITT some kid having a tantrum about… ozbargain votes? Wow…

        • +5

well i just saved mine for you copie. Aaaahhh, felt gooooood

But serious, its the internet. You gonna stop posting deals for the large majority cos of a few idiots?

  • +2

the negs gone and there's 17 people who genuinely liked your post. I can see some confusion at the beginning and that's always going to get people saying stuff. Not everyone is going to like everything but sometimes that - or + is used in not the best ways.

looks like he just explained and revoked it.

you do a better job of alerting people of deals than I do :P

  • +42

Why does it upset you if somebody incorrectly negs your post?
I like your posts, as do most. Why spit the dummy if it is making you sad?

  • +22

Chill brother, don't let the fools get you down.

  • +32

I'm sure theearth will find another place where invisible people will be positive all the time…

  • +11

Don't leave dude- All negs revoked :)

"If we gain we gain together , if we lose we lose together .
    We are the one.
I am here not just about me or me or me."
    <— Luv it :)

Ozbargain needs ppl like you…..do stay :)

  • +5

    Come on, theearth, please stay!

  • +18

This highlights the biggest risk for OzBargain. It is completely member driven and only a handful of people consistently post the best deals.

Maybe there should be more incentive to reward frequent/"high worth" posters.

    • +6

The fact is most sites are community driven, without it it is nothing, but u have to understand most of the hardcore contributors are after nothing, but recognition and praise. I say we should celebrate the earth and the others that post. All they are after is our appreciation, our respect, and our praise.

As for what on osbgarain that ticks me off, is arrogance of some members and the sense of entitlement to everything.

  • +5

Welcome to the ever growing crowd of people who have made the decision not to post deals anymore…. It's just not worth it

and thanks for all your previous work…

    • So what happens when everyone decides it's not worth posting deals…?

      • +13

So what happens when everyone decides it's not worth posting deals…?

        OzBarren

  • +3

Likely tens of thousands of people appreciated your posts & comments. Have a break and come back when you're ready. Best wishes for the future whatever you choose.

  • Reported to Mods to remove that invalid neg vote but no action from Mods.

    For clarity,

    • You started a TWAM thread at around 8PM 7/12.

    • As it is a weekend, availability of moderators is not as frequent as weekdays. We generally take no longer than 24 hours, mostly a few hours.

    • Tightarse revoked his voted around 10:30PM

    • A moderator responded to your thread at 11:20PM.

Glad there was a resolution. Perhaps in future, you can just PM the user as he was more than happy to oblige. Most people are fairly reasonable once you talk to them.

  • +11

I really have had enough of some arrogant Oz bargainers here. Selfishness and arrogant are on the rise.

Come on, there's thousands of people that post here, bound to be a bad egg or two, OzB or no OzB with any group of that size. Don't move under my feet.

    • Sounds like he isn't even a bad egg, just misinformed

  • +19

I understand how you were upset with this situation.
I think people should be more responsible when voting negatively.
You are one of the key poster in OZB.
Thousands of people save money from your deals.
All problems have been resolved now. Please don't leave and keep up your good work.
We look forward for your next bargain post mate..

  • +32

Maybe just stop posting Dick Smith deals.
We all know they have no idea and usually no stock.
Don't let a few negs get you down, JV doesn't.

  • +2

Farewell old chap. May you continue to live life as a tight arse

  • +36

I have seen many people leaving the earth; but this is the definitively the first instance of the earth leaving people.

    • +3

Humanity is screwed then. Come back! Earth!!

    • This SpaceNinja has seen some crazy sh*t! Come Back!!!!

  • +7

I'll pose it as a question this time. Why are a few negatives something that bothers?
In almost everything I do in my life there is usually a bunch of positives and a few negatives.
If I only waited for 100% positives (even when the negs are wrong) I'd be wrapped in my doona all day.
Take a spoon of concrete and keep doing what you are good at!

  • +4

theearth, plz do not stop posting a bargain, i save hundreds of dollar from your deal.

You and WNK is the best poster, without you guys, I dont know what happen to our lovely community website here :(

  • +2

……I can share your frustration theearth, the neg vote is used too far easily. I see a deal and aleays reluctant to post a deal as i am never sure if others may find it good or not. My personal opinion would be for the neg vote to be removed totally, vote +ve if you think the deal is good or dont vote at all, if there is a better deal, a compulsory link must be provided, each individual must make up their mind if the deal is good or not. I always wanted to ask what a day in your life and WNKs must be like cos you guys always post worthy bargains and i know you always start early in the day. I for one will miss your great posts. Thanks for all your efforts.

    • +7

if there are no neg votes JV might leave

  • Dear the earth,
Sorry to hear your pain. As others here have said, please feel the love here, take a break, and come back when you are ready. Mods, please consider the no neg changes above. We can't afford to lose theearth.

  • -4

LOL you're leaving because you are butthurt from a neg?

Welcome to the internet. Please try to attain tougher skin if you ever want to crawl back.

    • +1

Very 2000 way to look at the Internet. You can experience all types of highs and lows on this thing. The earth is probably wanting to have a break from so many the highs (and lows), and post less, quite logical.

    • Second coming of JV(or worse)…… The crawl back part was hardly needed. The community would always welcome back a fellow saver. Ive used his deal's too ya know….

  • +9

lol this is a stupid ass thread. who cares if people neg you, why are you so butthurt anyway? I agree however that this place is filled with morons (people who get offended by swear words.. lol).

anyway this is a dumb thread

    • +27

      Very mature comment there, lameturd.

      • did you come up with that yourself?

        • +5

I helped with scripting and make-up…..why you ask?

        • +4

I was the director and also in charge of costume authenticity.

        • I remember! I'd hire you anytime :) 5 stars :P

  • +6

    How old are you? 7?

    • +19

Older than you… He's the earth!!!

      • His skills are……well rounded! And he see's all on his surface!!! Mainly Dominos deals :p

  • Just when the forums seem to hit rock bottom a good member leaves :( the way the forum is going the only bargains listed on here will be chopsticks and noodles.

theearth just take a break I'm sure the mods just overlooked you as normally there on a bit of a power trip and on the ball.

    • +2

Just when the forums seem to hit rock bottom

rock bottom? wow you must only go to a different section of OzB to me, a part of it that i cant even find….

      a good member leaves

happens to every group/forum on the net since ever. old people get jaded and leave, new members fill there now vacant roles, newer and better things come along and the old gets forgotten (just as one easy to understand example, myspace/facebook/g+)

if theearth didnt make a huge song and dance about it no one would have even noticed they left, which is exactly why they felt they had to make a song and dance about it.

      • +1

and just so you understand my point….

We notice when scotty doesn't post the next Lenovo deal or when NGPriest is beaten to the punch posting Game Bundles….or when WNK's Udemy and Bossmodes steam and greenman sales are posted….. We have watched theearth just the same….. We would eventually notice him leaving!

    • +5

      ouch! ;)

    • At least he leaves on his own accord instead of getting banned for being a douche.

      Nomsayin?

        • +8

nosdan you need to read the first line very closely "After 1141 posts and 1058 comments I am retiring (Sadly) from posting any deal in the future."

Retiring from posting, not retiring from visiting Ozbargain all together. After posting 1000+ deals it will be a nice break for theearth to sit back and enjoy the great deals that get posted on here everyday.

        • -1

nosdan you need to read the first line very closely "After 1141 posts and 1058 comments I am retiring (Sadly) from posting any deal in the future."

          i did, it states

          Farewell to OzBargain from theearth

the rest is some attention seeking self indulgent "im just so important that without me the site will pack up its bags and cease to exist" BS…

  • +11

I remember a few years back when your name was 'kluger' and you had a big whinge over the same thing and then created a new username and went on posting. OzBargain has taught me one thing - people are assholes. You can't let that bring you down.

Also, to reference a handful of users saying 'keep up the good work' ain't exactly going to win you any friends. There are hundreds of others who post too.

  • +6

Haha glorious, theearth is leaving because tightarse negged his post.

  • +2

F**k the neggers! What's the point of negging anyway? People try their best and spend time and effort posting deals. Upvoting is enough, there shouldn't be downvotes. If a deal is no good, it gets less than 5 votes, often zero. I do not understand the neg vote really. I think it was put there to spite the poster.

    • yet at times… they just feel so appropriate…

What's the point of negging anyway?

      • +1

Comments are ok to be negged. Deals are not. If the deal is crap or no stock, no one will +vote it anyway. So what's tyhe point really of downvoting deals?

        • +1

It gives members the ability to remove a deal.
If this wasn't in place then I guess you would get people complaining that why should mods be the only ones with the power to do this.

        • So what's the point really of downvoting deals?

There are some that need the attention….
some just like being part of a mob….
and for what seems like a minute proportion, they give some useful information about a deal, such as cheaper elsewhere, poor product etc.

The neg vote lost most of it's useful-ness to the community years ago

        • +8

When I see a neg, I always read the comments to find out why it was negged.

I like to think of it as an alert for people that the deal may not be as great as it seems- if there's a lower price elsewhere, or the company are scammers or spammers, if the company isn't honouring the deal, or if the item has something fundamentally wrong with it.

Negs draw people's attention and make them read the discussion beneath the post to find out why so they can make an informed decision.

They are in reference to the deal, not the poster, and shouldn't be taken so personally.

    • Did you just use the n word? Wow. John Oliver was right…

  • +15

Sir this is a open forum. Everybody has a different opinion. You are going to get negged. You are also going to get a abundance of people whom appreciate and upvote your deals. Such is life. If you are taking these arbitrary issues to heart, then maybe you should quit.

  • +3

    Farewell

  • +3

Who doesn't like good Aussie drama

  • +10

    baby want bottle

  • +1

Hmmm. Perhaps some bridge building equipment would be in order. Or a visit to the shop with the big red hammer logo.

Leaving because you got negged on a DSE deal?

This smacks of "Look at me! Look at me! I'll stay if you all look at me!"

    • +6

This smacks of "Look at me! Look at me! I'll stay if you all look at me!"

Give the guy a break. It's people like him that keep this site running, and helps people like you save a few dollars. So easy to sit back and bag the guy, yet feed off his bargains.

      • Very hypocritical considering that you were used as an example as to why he is leaving.

        • +5

How is it hypocritical? TA explained what happened and why he did what he did. How is that the same as directly insulting someone?

  • You are always going to get people who will neg you especially on the internet because it's a place where the push of the button is all is required to voice their opinion. Doesn't matte how good or bad you are, there are two sides to people, so don't let a few negs get you down.

  • +1

Members as active as theearth have made OzBargain the strength it is today. Don't stop just because some neggers are immature, and besides, tightarse has given a decent apology now that he realises what happened. We don't wan to lose frequent posters like tightarse, either.

  • +11

    Attention +1

  • +7

    lol what a sook

  • +6

Taking things a little personal tho?

  • +2

    How about this.

We should introduce a Karma system (similar to Reddit) that allows a user to keep track of their goodwill. The more you post, and the better the quality of your contributions, the higher your Karma ranking. This'll be visible as a aura or a colored outline on your Avatar image.

    e.g Golden Aura — Good,
    Orange Aura — Neutral,
    Red Aura — Bad.

We tend see a lot of people getting butthurt whenever somebody neg votes. This is fairly understandable as a neg vote implies that they haven't found a good deal even though they may have spent and invested a lot of time into finding the bargain and posting it on the site.

As the act of posting is itself thankless work (you don't get rewards) there is no actual benefit to being a 'power poster' on Ozbargain. Obviously rewarding people with money will itself bring some headaches (people gaming the system and being competitive) I think the next best thing is to use a Karma system.

    • +6

Actually I'm seeing a lot of stupid negs around at the moment, I'm not usually bothered when I receive a neg because someone strongly disagrees with what I have said or if I've somewhat trolled the thread but I saw someone neg a guy earlier for saying he wished he had bought a memory card instead of a game the previous week, why would you bother? Also another neg for a guy who said he had donated $15 to charity as it was Xmas season instead of buying something he wouldn't get much use of?? It makes me dislike the community when I see this kind of shit.

      • +3

Are you talking abou comment negs?

That is unfortunately the nature of Ozbargain — follow the herd, say something witty / funny — get positive vote.

Say something that people don't like to hear even though it is a valid point — earn a neg.

There's not much we can do about neg votes on comments, unfortunately. This is the internet, there will be a mix of decent and not-so-decent people.
There's no point starting a debate or flamewar over a neg on your comment.

but I saw someone neg a guy earlier for saying he wished he had bought a memory card instead of a game the previous week, why would you bother?

If there is only a single neg, then that equates to one person disagreeing with you out of a possible hundred others… or perhaps it was a mis-click. I wouldn't take it too personally.

        • Yeah sorry, talking about comment negs. Also there were multiple negs on the second post I mentioned.

    • +3

Doesn't a Karma system just make negs worse? Right now if someone negs a deal all you lose is some pride. If there was a Karma system it would presumably affect your rating, and people will take it even worse than they do now.

    • So a pretty color round an avatar changes everything?
I would not be even looking at the colors, i read the title of the post to figure out if i want to click, since the information i want to see is there.
Wouldn't matter to me if the person has a red ring or a gold one, it's the deal that counts…

  • +7

Hey theearth, I just registered to say don't leave.
I see your name under new posts all the time.
Maybe take a break for a while then come back?

  • +1

    lay off the caffeine man!

  • The word "arrogant" in your post is used incorrectly. The correct word is "arrogance" in that context.

  • +3

some guys get a neg and leaves. wow such big news.

  • +2

all i can say is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAPXGuRIXsA

If everyone was like this this world would have never advanced….Personaly, i do feel abit mad when my comment or post gets negged..but that's for a split second then i forget about it…I've got more important things to worry about… like what does JV look like

    • I think JV would look like Andy Kaufman

  • +1

    come on man, stay!

  • +1

how can i neg this post?

  • +1

Yes, please don't leave - you are a great contributor.

Learn to simply ignore the assholes. Life is full of them.

This amazing story will be turned into a Hollywood movie, due out next year. I read it online, on ozbargain so it must be true ;—)

Anger is one emotion that people use to respond to a 'threat'. It can be a real 'threat' or one that we make up in our mind.

To be human is to be angry some of the time. It is important not to make anger bad.

Anger like a hammer can be a tool for destruction or to build something. Anger is a necessary part of being a human being. It has helped us survive as a species.

Mate, don't worry about the comments, you cannot control peoples emotion, but you can control your own emotions.

The best defence when people post stupid things is to ignore them. People post stupid things and expect a certain reaction, if you ignore them - you defeat them.

    If you react, you loose!

  • +2

This whole thing has been blown out of proportion a bit.

    • The OZB system works well most of the time. On really popular deals, the OZB voting system definitely works. Most people vote correctly and incorrect neg votes get revoked right away by people neg voting incorrect / bad comments.
    • The deal, unfortunately, wasn't that popular (because we had quite a lot of Eneloop/LSD battery deals in the past). Thus, majority of the OZB users did not look at this deal (thus the OZB community did not 'fix' the neg votes), so it is understandable OP felt the system failed him (though, I believe the mods and OZB users now corrected this).
    • People make mistakes. Even DSE staff made mistakes in this case which led to some confusion about the deal.

I hope OP will re-consider and continue to post bargains for us.

  • +16

It's perplexing why people on forums, after deciding they no loner wish to participate on them, feel the need to write out these diatribes.

You obviously contributed positively to this community and it is a shame some negative (and frankly trivially) experiences has convinced you to leave, but really, how self-important are you? Especially when in your leaving post you recognise that the majority of Ozbargainers are kind and supportive.

It's a bargain forum on the internet. You're not abandoning a political or religious ideology after dedicating blood, sweat, and tears to it for decades.

    • +6

"It's a bargain forum on the internet. You're not abandoning a political or religious ideology after dedicating blood, sweat, and tears to it for decades." Speak for yourself, Non-believer! :P

  • I wish more would simply take the time to + a bargain. The people that bother to plus a post are too few. Your posts are very appreciated mate (despite this little issue).

    I hope you reconsider.

  • +7

By leaving, you are letting the terrorists (errrr few questionable apples) win.
I have posted a couple deals before, if no one likes them, no one likes them. No skin off my back, just sharing incase people do want.
