2x $10 Vouchers for Alterations at Looksmart Alterations (Have to Use Them Separately)

330

I was looking around to get a couple pairs of jeans altered and did some googling and found that Looksmart have two $10 vouchers available.

One is for liking their Facebook page and they said it takes up to 48 hours to send out.
The other is for filling out a 1 page survey and they said it takes up to 72 hours to send out.

Limitations are: "Voucher is not valid with any other offer, voucher, embroidery, dry cleaning or invisible mending"

A printout of the voucher needs to be presented to get the discount.

I've used Looksmart before and their work is fine but like everyone else in the city got a bit expensive. With a $10 off voucher, getting a pair of jeans taken up is nice and cheap now.

Enjoy.

That's correct but the two $10 voucher deals I was referring to don't have an expiry (to apply for them) as far as I can see. The vouchers themselves probably have expiry dates though.

      • Hi brentsbits. The $10 vouchers you are referring to have a one to two month validity depending on when you register.

how much cost to cut the length of jeans? anyone ?

    • +1

I think I got them done last time for $18 or something? Depends on whether you want the original hem on the jeans or just one they do for you. The original hem is quite a bit more but they don't look any different in my opinion, perhaps for expensive designer stuff it's an issue but for jeans I don't see it. Of course, being not so up on my fashion, I am probably missing something.

It might be more than $18 now though, haven't been back in a while.

Yeah it's about $18-19 for a 30 minute service at the one I go to. Can't complain, they do a perfectly nice job, although I guess taking up straight leg jeans a couple inches is not too challenging.

Good Deal.. There is a LookSmart branch inside MYERS in Sydney CBD- and their website also has the same deal:
    http://www.looksmartalterations.com.au/services/shortening-s…

In addition to shortening, the link also offers other services like altering the style of jeans.

Very happy with this branch - so you could ring up and ask the rates and mention the coupon.

If they are decent alterator's(?) then they can do alot more than just take pants up. My alterations place fixes damaged pants, put in a new seat in the inseam of my pants, so its more than just taking pants up.

    • Definitely, they do good work. There were a couple exceptions for the vouchers but other than that, yes, you can use it on anything.

    • Hi thedude23. You're right. Our tailors can do much more than just up pants. The skill level depends based on location - some are experienced dress makers and designers that can completely restyle your garments. In any case, all of our locations can do more complicated alterations than pants hemming.

Hi if you live near Essendon DFO or Moorabbin DFO, check out the Alteration Bar (http://www.dfo.com.au/Essendon/Stores/Alteration-Bar/)
all their hem shortening cost $12 for each pair, I once took 5 pairs in and they charged me $10 each pair. They're prices are negotiable. Original Hems and all zippers are $18 I think, I've also had lots of formal dresses hemed, no matter if its a wedding dress or a normal cocktail dress, they always give me the best deal. I once got a quote at another place for $36 for a formal dress hem, I then went to the Alteration Bar people and they charged me $12 (bargain). This is their facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/AlterationBar. I hope that was useful

Thanks Brentsbits - & also others, for info re cost of hemming

Just a general heads up, just because a place charges higher prices and is a brand name it does not mean their work is more professional or they are more skilful. Skill level varies from place to place, even within different chain locations. Best is to provide them with one garment first and see how it goes.

I have had bad experiences with some big name alterations. I now only trust my local tailor. If you ask high end retail/boutique fashion stores where to get things tailored/altered, they will almost definitely point you towards their local tailor who are more skilful than the franchises and have been their tailor for 10+ years or so. Their prices would me more competitive too.

This is most relevant for complicated alterations but even with everyday alterations such as taking the hem up on pants, you will save a lot of money and stress in the long run as they will be more reliable. I say this as a person who has to alter 10-20 suits/shirts/pants at a time for my company, I've been around to a lot of places and local tailors are the best overall.

But the chains have a distinct advantage in that as some are not as busy as the local tailors, they can do alterations within 30 minutes at times. Look into this if you need to wear the garments straight away.

    • For the simple stuff I've never had an issue. For alterations to a suit or whatever, I'd go to a proper tailor that does that kind of thing all the time.

    • Hi eastpac. Just to let you (and everyone else) know we offer pants hemming in one hour or it's free. We also offer a free coffee while you wait at a coffee shop in the shopping centre. While this offer is not available with the $10 voucher, you can ask our stores about this offer if you are interested.

  • Do you need to print of a physical copy of the voucher or can you just show the email on your phone?

    • It says print it out and hand it over to them.

Hey guys, I just noticed on their website you can also get one for signing up to their newsletter.
    #bargain

  • I just got my one for the survey in my email last night, printing it out to use now.

The terms on the bottom of the voucher read: "Not valid with any other offer, voucher, embroidery, dry cleaning or invisible mending. One voucher per person, per transaction. Not redeemable for cash. Cost of alterations must exceed $10. Voucher must be presented on placement of order."

It has an expiry of 28/2/14 and the wording of the above suggests that it might be re-useable? Is that how it reads to others?

    Hi all,

Just sharing a negative experience that I had while trying to use my voucher at Forest Hill, Victoria.

Had wanted to get a pair of jeans altered and got a quote for $17.90 from one lady. I then showed my voucher and they took measurements.

When I came out, an older lady told me that their discount of 20% was better than my 10%. And they said the regular price is $21.90.

When I pointed out the voucher is for $10 off and not 10%, she gruffly told me she won't do it because it is too cheap. I said it was given by LookSmart themselves but she started to become rather abrupt and nasty, so I left and called LookSmart on the matter.

Maybe I wasn't altering enough jeans? But the voucher said all I had to do was spend more than $10.

They told me to go to other outlets and they have had some issues with certain franchisees, apologizing for the trouble.

I thought I'd let you folks know, just in case you want to go to that outlet with the voucher.
