I didn't even know these worked in australia.. Don't we have teevo?

Popcorn is a Media Extender, so it'll play videos/music from a hard drive/network computer.
Tivo is for recording and playing from broadcast tv.
      Big difference

      • this is a good buy — the price isn't bad considering what they used to cost, and it's system software is continually improved, unlike most every other device on the market, it just keeps getting better, plus you can customise it alot too.

with the US Tivo software you can send media files to your Tivo from your PC, amongst other things, but it no where near as flexible as the Popcorn Hour (Network Media Tank).

the only thing the PCH really lacks is a digital tuner, so you replace even your settop boxes / PVRs.

Popcorn in the last few days have revealed the c200 which is a significant step up on the a110. May be worth comparing specs between the two units before buying.

    • Always the way - I only recently bought a couple of PCH-A110's … would have defintely paid the extra for blu-ray support.

Thanks for the info, didn't know the c200 was even on the cards

    • Eljo are taking expressions of interest for a PCH C200 pre-order. As soon as the manufacturers have confirmed the price points and release dates, they will be available for to order to make sure you lock in a unit from the first batch. As this is a global product, There are not that many penciled aside for Australia. Early indications place the C200 around the $550-$600 mark, but this is far from concrete.

      • The RRP is US$299 … plus US$45 post directly from PCH
With the current exchange rate this puts the price of the C200 at $436.92 AUD
(or you could say $450 with the currency exchange penalties)

        • With the money I save buying direct from PCH I can buy a BR drive and the required flash memory and I will probably still be in front. PCH support is very good. With this product a local warranty is the least of my concerns.

If you buy the A110 direct from Popcorn Hour, it is $US250 INCLUDING postage to Australia…
That is currently around $AU310 and already includes a HDMI cable…

Now if you consider you can get a 1TB WD hard disk for around $120, that takes it to around $430…

    $70 for a bag of popcorn is a bit RICH I think…

Some people would gladly pay $70 for local support and warranty. Admittedly a HDD is the most likely thing to go wrong, but imagine what a hassle it would be to send the A110 back to the USA for service. And they probably wouldn't cover you return postage either.

Still, for the adventurous type, buying direct from the USA definitely saves a lot of money.

      • ha!

It comes direct from China, not the US…

I bought my A110 last year, part of the 1st batch… It hasn't skipped a beat… It's fantastic for putting the kids DVD's on as they were always scratching them…

        (Personally, $70 "insurance" for a $300 device is a bit much…)

      • I bought directly through PCH (for one of my PCH's).
        Their support is great.

The optical (Toslink) door flap snapped off, which helps keep the Toslink cable connected.
They sent me a whole new daughterboard free of charge … which was easy to install and works perfectly.

    • Don't know why jv's this comment got -vote
I've added a positive … because it's accurate - the price is not great

clearly this posting is a " rip off Ad" not a "great deal as stated in the main post"…a 30 second goggle search will prove it.
