UPDATE $9 tickets any movie, any time
Thanks to pmmehta22, I have changed the link, much easier now.

http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?…

Optus $8 movie offer. Usually valid for Wednesdays only but it is working for anytime at the moment.

This also includes advance tickets such as Bruno, Transformers 2, Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince, Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs.

The Optus $8 Wednesdays offer is valid till 30/06/2010, so I am not sure how long this will last.

Please note,
This is not valid for GoldClass, SilverScreen, GMAX or VMAX Cinemas or for 3D Events.

  • do the codes only work once?

  • Link is no longer working!

The Website has frequent downs. For the link above to work:
Go to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. Login with this one: G14380000000. After you login it will lead you to a page where you have limited sessions. Use the link I posted above and all sessions should work now. http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?…

    • Says "no sessions available" after trying that method, no matter what movie I try.

      • +1

You will get that when you login, but all session will appear if you click the original link posted, http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?…

        • thanks, got cheap tickets eventually.

worth the effort, as online tickets at my local are now $17 each!

        • When I went to collect the tickets the asked to see me Optus card, then when I said I didn't bring it they were all "ummm…arrrr…well make sure you bring it next time".

How do you even get this card? I am an Optus customer.

    • Hey taco with this deal running out tomorrow and the site now not giving any dates past 30/06/10 any chance of relisting this offer with a new 2010-2011 card number? Cheers. Bradio.

  • i've tried a couple times without fail, here's the sequence
    - http://www.greaterunion.com.au/
    - wait for it to complete loading
    - THEN type "optus" at the end of the url bar to look like this http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
    - follow the rest of taco's instruction
    - enjoy your labor

    10Q taco:)

    • OK, followed the instructions but it asks you to redeem the tix in person =(

  • Followed the instructions that Taco posted above.
    It worked.
When I collected the tickets at MIRANDA, the guy asked to see the Optus card. When I said I left it at home he said that the deal was for Wednesday only. I said usually if I try on days when it can't be used, no sessions are available on the website but because the sessions were available I thought it was OK. He gave me the tickets ($8 each).
Thanks Taco - glad I didn't have to pay full price cause the movie (Harry Potter) was very ordinary.

  • So i went in to see harry potter, bought 5 tickets with this. This chic looked all good then thought something was fishy, so she goes to the manager, "hey arent these optus tickets for wednesday nights only?" and the manager says, "yea, theres a bug in the system, nothing we can do really." Thought to myself sweeeeet, and off i went hehe.

$7 Student Mondays are back. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14092

  • Followed your instructions Taco and it still works :D

    Thanks :D

  • Perfect still worked for me in Brisbane City! ^_^

BTW - Id avoid Drag me to hell if I were u guys… couldnt decide wether it wanted to be serious or make fun of itself so it alternated both >_>

  • Seems like it only works on Wednesdays now :(

    • Yep only working wednesdays for me two .

      • Still working for other days for me.

        • has anyone managed to get this to work on the stupid new "event cinemas" site??
when i try going through the old process that Taco listed it redirects you and you lose the $8 option :(

do this mean the $9 deal is gone for good?? that would suck with today's ticket prices.

  • Does anyone know if you can still buy Gmax tickets with the card over the counter? I know the terms of the card say it's not valid for Gmax etc but I remember before a message would pop up saying that those tickets were unavailable online with the special but to go buy it at the counter with the card. Now the message is gone =(

I've just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:

      • Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
      • Log in with card number G14380000000
      • You'll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase "optus" to uppercase "OPTUS" at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
      • Purchase your tickets
      • Thanks

  • Thnks alot ceejay…u r a champ!!!

  • When i do ceejay's method:

I’ve just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:

    • Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
    • Log in with card number G14380000000
    • You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase “optus” to uppercase “OPTUS” at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
    • Purchase your tickets

    I get this error:

    Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'

    Object required: ''

    /movies/movietimes_1cinema_xml.asp, line 83

And also, it now redirects to the "events" page.. does anyone have any suggestions or workaround.

    Thankz frenz.

Looks like things are starting to break on the greaterunion.com.au site as they complete the rebranding to eventcinemas.com.au

Try this new procedure, it seems to work for me:
      * Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
      * Log in with card number G14380000000
      * You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — that has a Microsoft VBScript runtime error
      * Go to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie…
      * Purchase your tickets

      • wow.

i didnt purchase any tix, but the optus $8 offer is now showing.

        you are a genius! haha

        thank you!

      • Seems to be working at the moment by just going to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie… but it is possible that I have a cookie installed that lets me bypass the first few steps. If anyone can confirm, that would be great.

Also FYI, you won’t be able to book Gold Class or VMax sessions with this system.

  • it works, thanks so much ceehay!!!

  • went through for me today….although haven't picked up tickets yet……

    • should have updated….sorry….pick up went fine, have used it twice since….

  • Sweet as . Can't believe this is still working .

  • still working today……

  • Yep, we use this all the time. It's been a great money saver!

    • I think its supposed to work for an entire year

  • We used it last week end . Awesome deal .

  • Nooo it's expiring soon!! =( This has got to be one of the best ozbargain coupons of all time. Seriously, a year's worth of $9 tickets! It's amazing!

  • Hey taco with this deal running out tomorrow and the site now not giving any dates past 30/06/10 any chance of relisting this offer with a new 2010-2011 card number? Cheers. Bradio.

    • It says taco last logged in 7 weeks ago.. so.. =( doesn't look like there's any luck and I've tried this since it expired and yep, no longer works.. nooooooo this was sooo good!

  • Guys

    the new deal has started

    www.optusrewards.com.au or www.yestickets.com.au

    the new deal is

    • Family Offer:

    B. Purchase of four small drinks and a large popcorn for $20
    • 2 for 1 Tickets:

So in effect monday to thursday its the same thing, just that we cannot book friday saturday and sunday.

Unless of course someone can crack it again!

    • I tried Family of 4 for $36 from Yestickets. Takes me to Event Cinemas ticket booking webpage but doesn't offer the deal.

Don't know how to apply the deal.

      • You dont need to do anything different, but chooe a session before 5pm

otherwise the price will be different.

  • We had a great run with these $9 tickets (thankyou) but the last time we went we were told we needed our optus card and it was for Wednesdays only . He let us in but told us not again ….

Damn it this was the best deal ever saved me and the family so much money haha :D
