They should rename themselves Dick 'Persian Rugs' Smith

  • +1

this is no longer a bargain as DSE seem to always have a discount coupon! lol

    • +1

      Yeah Basically standard pricing now.

      • +1

It's getting as boring as their $20 eneloop deals now yawn

        • +4

          I know, mid-high $400 PS4 pricing…yawnzzz.

Show em the sub $400 PS4 pricing Dick.

    • +11

Is it cheaper than the competition though? JB? Harvey? If so, then still a bargain!

      • +2

And it will be the same in 3 days then again in another 3 then again in another 3

    • +1

Have they jacked their normal prices up? Or are the 12% deals legit?

      • Well they can't raise it above rrp and its easy to Google the prices at jb and harvey

      • They have with the HTC One M8 - for the previous 12% 'discount', it was $819 prior to the discount, now it's $869 before the discount. Might be due to stock issues, though.

        edit: see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146661

      • The price of the GPS I bought didn't change. It was a legit deal for me.

  • +3

    I'm won't +ve this.

And cue all the dupe posts where every single item DSE sells is now a unique deal on the frontpage.

  • +1

    Hmm.. Definitely considering a PS4.

    • +2

If you took advantage of the 10% off gift card deal at Big W over the weekend, purchasing wish gift cards (to pay for Westfield gift cards) with RACV/NRMA, paying with ING, you could have had it for around $400. If you could find a way to purchase it at DSE, even better. I didn't bother checking out Dick's deals though, so I'm not sure if it's online only or in store, or if click n collect is available.

It's a lot of hoops though, and a lot of wasted plastic.

    from the ACCC

It is also important to remember that a 'sale' or 'discounted' price should only be available for a limited period. This is because if a reasonable amount of time has elapsed and an item is still 'on sale', the discounted price effectively becomes the new selling price, so it may be misleading or deceptive to continue to call it a 'discount' or 'sale' price.
    ahem

    http://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices#tw…

    • Doesn't talk about many, many, "limited period" sales.

      • +5

Actually it does, it's in the ACCC guidelines. You cannot string together many "limited period" sales together and still call them a sale.

Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences

key here is the "reasonable period". IMO it's not. Don't get me wrong, i love a discount and want prices to be low. I think that they are potentially missleading people with the claim of it being on sale. When it is becomming their regular price. When they claim "SALE!!!" or promotion, they should make sure it's genuine.

        • +1

Chicken is correct. Having worked in retail (Myer) they were very, very strict and cautious about checking how long something had been on sale and how long it was back at RRP before labelling it a 'sale' again.

Without looking into the detail here, it would seem DS is walking a very thin line.

        • +1

They would show that they sold most of these products at full price in some stores between 12% off codes, therefore the price remains the original price.

The ACCC guidelines are designed to stop a business from claiming something is $150 down to $75 when it never sells at $150 etc.

    • +25

Next you'll all be complaining that they took the discount away and you were just about to buy something.

The complaints from OzB never get old.

      • +6

        Straw Man much?
Of course i'd prefer the lower price, not complaining about that. I just think they're being a little disingenuous calling this yet another "sale"

in the 30 days they've peddaled out the following 12% off "sales":

        • 12DAYSTORIO
        • june12
        • WEEKEND12
        • apologise
        • BUDGET
        • SHOP24/7

is it not becomming a bit of a joke to call these "sales"?

        • -1

          first world problems

        • -2

          !!BREAKING NEWS!!

Dick Smith 12% off coupon responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis that led to the GFC! Someone call Kevin 07!!!

        • +3

Didn't even bother reading your post, the downvotes speak for themselves.

        • Amar when the government and banks are in bed together (as they were prior and after the GFC) it is not capitalism.

        • yes he lost me at syco

    • +3

Do you want them to stop giving us discounts?? Really if they stop doing it it is our loss geez

      • +1

Did i say that? ffs read what i've written.

I take issue with the way they've called this a "sale" or promotion. I do not believe it is anymore. They should just make this their regular price, rather than pedal out the "sale" line again.

      • People will just wait for the next discount day when they do it so regularly and stop buying at other times. No different to JB Hi Fi and their regular 20% off sales- just wait for the next sale to buy.

    • Who said it is a SALE? It is simply 12% off COUPON CODE, use it if you want!

      • DSE are calling this one a "promotion" and "offer", same thing.

  • You have to find something already discount which also work with this 12% off.

    Otherwise no bargain here.

  • -6

Dicks getting old, his prices can't remain fully erect anymore.

  • +3

the one thing i am really considering buying and it's excluded (chromecast)

    • I bought one from the states when they first came out. It's still lacking apps which can utilise it's full potential. I would recommend holding off a little longer

    • Dont let $6 stop you, I bought 2 last week and they are fantastic

      • have you streamed local files from your pc or tablet/phone to it?
thats what i am interested in
does it use data like when streaming netflix or ?
cant seen to find online if it does or not.

        • +1

You can stream files from your computer quite easily, from a handheld devices requires special apps that aren't too great

  • Awesome, just ordered a Garmin 52LM for $104.72 delivered, down from $119.

    • That's what I grabbed on their last 12$ sale also. Free shipping to boot! Definitely a good snag.

  • I noticed that I cant apply the newest code to the 70" Bravia I had price matched and purchased from HN. So glad I got in on the "12daystorio" deal when I had the chance! Thanks DSE, 12's my lucky number now!!

  • +6

We have been spoiled now. $482.24 without a game isn't much of a deal.

    • thanks for pointing it out. i will wait…

  • +1

It is just me or are the exclusions lists for DSE % off sales getting bigger each time?

    • CORRECT

    • +2

They are crowdsourcing which items should be on the list by monitoring what is being bought.

  • HTC ONE M8 still not excluded from the list, but price has gone up to 869, so with the 12% its 764.72.

  • +1

I knew I should have waited until this afternoon to put in my order. But for those who are looking for active headphones, this discount goes well on top of the already greatly priced Soul Transform Superior Active Performance On-Ear Headphones Electric Blue https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146803

Being a true OzBargainer I'm going to throw it out there, is there anyway I can get the $8 extra I paid from Dick Smiths since the headphones are still on sale even thought I made my purchase yesterday?

    • +1

Can you cancel your previous order? I would try phoning them. I have found them farely reasonable to deal with in the past.

      • Unfortunately it's too late to cancel. The orders been picked up by the delivery company. I was thinking maybe they still refund the difference?

        • You can use the dick smith 7 day price guarantee to ask them to match their own prive & refund the difference. In this case they are the retailer you want them to match (how's that for "inception".

I did this with some speakers :)

    • a true ozbargainer would know there's always another 12% off code around the corner

      • That's very true too. But it was a decision that needed to be made because the headphones were only on sale for 48 hours. As often as the 12% comes, I too it as far as investigating the amount of times it appeared on OzBargain, and it did not appear every 48 hours.

  • +2

I am trying to buy a tv that is $500 off, however I can't use the code? The tv is not on the exclusion list.

    • Had a similar issue with a Samsung tablet when I tried to check out.
I applied the code - which worked in my case… but when I logged in to check out it kept dropping off the code
Got around it without logging into the site, and checked out as a guest it worked.

    • It is in the exclusion list. I had the same issue. It's one of those GE numbers - check the product page and you'll find that number on there.

  • +3

They take amazingly long to ship orders. I ordered logitechZ906 on 26/05, today is the 7th business day and the order has not left their store yet. I called them yesterday and after putting me on hold for 30mins the operator told me it will be shipped tomorrow. Hence, i called them again today to check and the operator told me that he will call me back but did not receive any back call. I want to know if others have had a similar experience or its just me?

    • I ordered a Logitech G602 on Sunday. The order was processed and sent to StarTrack on Monday then delivered this afternoon. I do live relatively close to the CBD though.

    • My last order from dse, I finally received it after three weeks!

    • strange i've ordered a fair bit from them recently, apart from screwing up a pre-order (pickup) for me they've been really quick in shipping things, less than a week for my chromecast which was my last purchase :)

  • -2

Anyone else sees the pun of Dickies and a Glory sale..

    • +1

Dick's Glory sale! 12% off the whole range of products!

  • +1

bloody dick smith !!! Ive been waiting for the inevitable 12% and ended up going to hardly normal paying $20 more roughly the same time this deal was posted. Why dont they just have a permanant sale and beat the competetion?

    • Now I don't feel so bad losing $8.28 for ordering yesterday from them.

  • +2

Xbox one preorder. $440. Not to bad I guess

  • I think all these sales are too often and they can't keep up. Got a mate waiting 3 weeks now for his PS4. That is madness. I used to buy games from DS online and they'd arrive in 2 days.

So be cautious, with all these sales and teaming up with Catch of The Day, your consoles will take up to a month to arrive.

  • +5

These Sales are pretty useless. They might as well include an inclusion list instead of an exclusion list.

  • Does anyone know the if the Logitech G27 is compatible with PS4 yet????

  • Go for Glory at the Glory Hole!

      not safe for ears

How much royalties does Dick Smith (the man) still get from the retailer? Surely he could not allow that unflattering image of him be plastered outside all their stores for this many years without payment?

    • they still use his image?

      • no - all the stores had their signage updated 5+ years ago

  • get back to 15% I say.

  • +1

:-( the Samsung 6400 quadcore TV's, are excluded. Awesome TV when combined with Plex

  • -2

I read the title as 'Dick Smith 'go for glory hole sale'..

    • +1

      no you didn't

  • +2

Still waiting for my Xbox One titanfall bundle I ordered 3 weeks ago

Despite being in stock at the time of ordering… its still awaiting fulfilment…

Yes the same bundle DSE is now offering via Catch of the Day… which is apparently in stock…

Have called 4 times already… first three times.. apparently it was sent out…
The last call, the admitted there was no stock.. and I would get a refund… with in 2 to 4 days..
6 Days later.. still no refund…

Have now bought in store from JBhifi

warning.. do not buy from DSE

    • Had exactly the same happen to me with a swan camera set. They had exactly the same product on sale 1 week after I bought it yet I had no contact from them for 4 weeks - rang them up and they said sorry they had no stock and refunded me. Weren't apologetic at all.

      • Chargeback credit card and rub it in their face with a formal complaint to ACCC / Fair Trading

        • They did refund me in the end but the whole experience was really pathetic from their end. They don't really see a problem with holding your money for 4 weeks and not contacting you at all. At the least they should've contacted me within a couple of days of buying saying that the item was on backorder and given a choice of refund or wait.

In the end I think it all got too hard for them and they couldn't be bothered dealing with me anymore and that's why they refunded me.

        • WTF… just got another invoice listing only -$71.760 as woolworths discount…

This is the discount from the 12% only…

These people are really really incompetent… still no refund. or XBOX One..

  • I would only buy from them if they include gift cards…..

  • Excludes Apple, Amazon Kindle, Jawbone, GoPro and Beats by Dre. branded products, Prepaid Mobile Phones & Broadband, Calling Cards & Recharge Vouchers, Gift Cards, Xbox Live & PSN Cards, Samsung Galaxy S5 (EM5290, EM5291, EM5293, EM5294), Chromecast (XH1443), and selected Advertised Lines

  • I only save $1 since i have to pay $5 delivery.
