expired Free Melbourne Suburban Bus Travel in September Weekends (Zone 2)
This was posted 993 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
The weekends are going to be even sweeter in September with free Zone 2 bus travel.
For each Saturday and Sunday in September, you can travel for FREE by bus to any destination within Zone 2.
It's all part of discovering how handy buses are to catch cross-town. What's more, buses are a great way to get from one leisure point to another on the weekend.
Your local Zone 2 bus driver will be happy to wave you on free-of-charge during the weekends in September. Just be sure to have a valid Metcard if you're travelling into Zone 1.
To get to Zone 2 shopping centres, cinemas, parks and sporting grounds, check out metropolitan bus timetables and maps.
So why don't you give it a go? With free bus travel at your fingertips and Zone 2 ready to be explored, the weekends have just become a whole lot better.
-3 votesHere's the stupid part. It doesn't freaking make a difference.
Reason:
A weekday zone 1 daily ticket cost $6.80
however,
A weekend zone 1 + 2 daily ticket cost $3So, if you are traveling on weekends in zone 1, you would SENSIBLE buy a $3 ticket (instead of paying $6.80) which therefore means your ticket is valid in zone 2 anyway. So i don't see what the offer is.
octagonalman on 28/08/2009 - 23:45 ¶I think the stupid part is the assumption all travel either starts or ends in zone 1. There's plenty out in zone 2 and we really do need to relocalise if Melbourne is to face the next wave of sustainability and livability issues. We can see that it is difficult to maintain even current levels of movement between the suburbs and CBD by road and public transport. This offer is an opportunity for people to explore how they may relocalise their play/leisure.

My point is:
1) (as mentioned below by articmonkey and tightwad), it's only $3.10 (or $3 is using weekend daily) for travel across zones 1 and 2.2) Frequency of buses is low.
3) Its free Zone 2 travel on buses ONLY! Well, if it was Zone 2 travel on Buses, Trains and Trams, then i would consider it an offer.
(Do not warrant a negative vote though)
arcticmonkey on 28/08/2009 - 21:21 ¶Good for people travelling just in Zone 2. The Sunday Saver makes it only $3.10 for all day travel in both Zone 1 and 2 so I don't see this as anything that fantastic.

Many weekend buse services are poor at best and as above $3.10 for all zones is the way to go if you want to get into the city without spending much.
Not sure who it'e aimed at, but I worry that the people who might benefit most like the elderly probably won't even hear about this offer until it's almost ended. Who reads this site? I haven't seen any ads elsewhere and September is arriving soon.
Nice try, but it should have been all zones if they really wanted to get people to sample public transport at their leisure. I know they would lose a lot of money if this happened on a weekday and would clog up a already strained system. Maybe next time?
huntress_love on 29/08/2009 - 01:14 ¶most zone 2 buses on weekend like runs every hour or not at all, wouldn't be my first choice for weekend travel in zone 2.
pigeonstone on 30/08/2009 - 23:27 ¶i would say don't plan your trip by bus, they never come on time. it ruined my day today, the bus was 1 hour late, and i asked the driver what's happened, he knows nothing. What's the hell…
