MM beat me by 3 minutes.

3DSXL and the S4 are the nice ones.

    • yeh After I refresh page saw post from you

      • Can you put PVR function next to the TVs… some folks look for that on a TV and not all cheapos have that function.

    • is the 3ds the new one ?

      • No old one… same catalogue has the new one listed for $100 more IIRC.

        • RRP is $250. That would be pretty expensive

        • @Dany34:

Heh… The new one is $248.

          Memory failed me.

        • @jlogic:
          All good bud ;)

      • New is missing from the name, so I would assume not. Particularly at that price

    • is the 3DSXL one the "NEW 3DSXL", because if its the old one, not really, expect prices to drop of the old models.

  • WARNING: The 'Nokia' phones are now under Microsoft's control :(

    • +1

They should be. Microsoft paid lots of money to buy Nokia.

      • +3

Kind of. They bought nokias phone division, not Nokia as a whole.

Nokia are still around and aren't owned by MS, and can even start making phones again next year (or maybe 2016, not 100% sure), they would have to hire all new people and start again though. Nokia still retained all their patents for phones, just leased them to MS at a big discount along with the phone division sale.

        • Kind of. They bought nokias phone division, not Nokia as a whole

I thought the discussion was related to phones. Anyway, thanks for the heads up on update about the fate of Nokia.

        • Interesting to know! It's just I know that the phones Microsoft have a huge hand in (at least the cheapies) are nowhere near the quality of the old Nokia bricks.

        • @kronicmacstigator:
Which "bricks" specifically? Also, the changeover wasn't that long ago. I suspect you're comparing new actual Nokia feature phones to the old 3210 era phones.

    • Bugger, I was going to buy the $19.00 Nokia.
      Better not now.
      Not sure why though.

      • Dude… for $19 it's a steal! It seriously is, just don't expect too much. If you need something that you don't care if you lose/break it's great. It's a phone, it makes calls/sms's. I'd get it anyway, just don't be disappointed when you work out it's a $19 phone :)

        • +6

But dude you wrote "warning" in capitals!

        • +2

I'm definitely gonna buy this little phone, it makes much more than calls/SMS too. 3G internet connection and Facebook/WhatsApp apps, pretty much all I need. I'm over smartphones

        • @luke73:

It's for people who think Nokia is still Nokia, you can definately notice the Microsoft difference!

It's nowhere near the quality of the old Nokia's unfortunately :(

        • @kronicmacstigator: Nokia still made the phones though, Microsoft didn't.

  • Thanks MM.

  • Not trying to be smart, but how is linking a post on another bargain site a crediable source?

    • The only site with the catalogue up. The catalogue is not up on the Big W site yet.

      • Point taken, all good :)

  • +1

    Is the Samsung s4 a 4G or 3G model? Anyone knows? I reckon it's a 3G model.

    • I'd like to know this as well, 9505 or 9506 model ?

    • BigW sells Australian stock mobile phones. So I checked Samsung AU page and it listed as GT-i9505. It is a 4G model.

    • +1

The model is GT-I9505 - so it is a 4G model. I got the sales assistant to show me the box in the store.

  • Is the nokia phone locked to vodafone ? thanks.

    • +1

It's locked! To have it unlocked, it'd cost $75 dollars.

  • +1

Stick in a 32gb card and you have yourself a cheap little mp3 player with decent storage for under $40 combined (plus its a phone). :)

I just looked at catalogue and the Galaxy S4 price is showing as $498

    • +1

      It is this Saturday only.

      • -1

I missed that, so where is the price coming from? I couldn't find anything else about this one day sale other than the top bargains site.

  • Is the Galaxy S4 a good buy at $398?

    • +4

      i would say so.

  • +5

    Thanks OP.

I just went to The Good Guys and got a price match as they have a 30 day money back gurantee.
They actually bet the price $395.

    Will post receipt up here.

Let the S4 wars begin in Australian Retail!

    • Hi, please what did you show them to get price match? I can't seem to find any link/catalog showing $398.00. I may try to price match with OfficeWorks, thanks a lot

    • Good idea, I might go and see them tomorrow to see what I can do - my wife needs a replacement phone for her old original Note.

  • Assuming my grandma's Lebara sim should work on the Nokia 208 yes?

  • +2

Well I posted the receipt so ozbargainers can actually obtain an S4 for $395.

It was deleted my mods claiming price matching isn't a bargain.

Little do they know that people are going to stuggle to actually get one of these.

Big W doesn't have any power to order phones in, a third company is in charge of the phones at Big W and pays money to have those "stands" inside big w. They send the phones to the stores however, sale items are generally already sold out. I asked 3 stores today and one of them had stock. They won't have stock on Friday or Saturday either….

I bet Big W itself only has around 20 nation wide.

    • Which store have stock?

  • Is the Nikon slr a good buy?

  • How are the Hitachi TVs? I've been looking around for reviews but haven't gotten very far except finding that they are from this series: http://www.hitachiconsumer.com.au/product-listings/32-series…

  • -1

Hi, is the sale in store this sat 22/11/14?

    • +1

no…just advertising the sale for 22/11/3014

  • is the Samsung Galaxy S4 better in white or black?

    • Personal preference. Some people like looking at a white front whilst others prefer the black front. The black s4 is definitely the more popular colour due to being easier to clean and looking more visually appealing. Cases go better with a white front I reckon.

      • I much prefer white and bright coloured phones. Easier to find and when you go to pull one out of your pocket I don't think it's a knife. If it's dark and I have no visual outline (because black on black, no, I'm not being racist) it makes it harder to identify that it's a phone in your hand.

        • hahahahahahahaha kronicmacstigator your answer to my question is too funny I cannot stop laughing :)

  • If I am planning to get the Galaxy S4 as a christmas gift - is it worth buying now or there is a huge likelihood that the price will go down before christmas?

    • Anyone tried price match at Officeworks even for tomorrow?

Should we go for i9506 on eBay instead?

  • Is the Nikon slr a good buy?

  • +2

Seems like officework has caught on

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/samsung-galax…

You can use this link + BigW to price match wherever now.

Does not obviously say it is 4g on the title, however further on in the specifications and in one of the Q&As it is stated that it is 4g.

Remember to get a case and screen protector straight away (any ugly one will do till you manage to find the nicest one around/online). Never leave your phone unprotected for a bit. Accidental damage = lost value.

    • Now I'm going to have to wake up early and head to officeworks before this gets ozbargained up. =(

    • +2

Just bought one from Officeworks Bayswater, VIC. I had to show them the online price because they hadn't changed over the barcode yet. $398, 3x in vermont, 5x in bayswater, 0 in ferntree gully. No one's really rushing in to get them yet ? ;p

  • Just bought gs4, eastland bigw, thanks OP

  • This or I9506 I heard the i9506 use S5 processor and graphic chip a lot faster.

  • +2

Price matched + 5% discount at officeworks. Got it at 378.1

If the store has changed over to the online price of 398 they will not discount (according to the checkout guy).

The retail display was still the original price so was able to get pricematch+5% off

I was waiting outside of the BigW today, when the guys opened at 8.30am I was the second person enter inside, and ask the sales person to buy Samsung Galaxy S4, he said he had only one phone, and the first person already got that. Unbelievable.

    • +1

BigW Altona Meadows only have 2, Highpoint only have 1, that's what the staff told me. it's a joke really.

  • +2

Was really disappointed that Big W Kawana (QLD) only had one S4. And there were about 10 people queued up to get one. 1000s of catalogues printed with the S4 as the first item. Yet the store only had one?!?!

I went to the service desk and asked for a raincheck. Apparently they don't give rainchecks. However, the duty manager came and saw me and took my name and number and said she would see what she can do. She stressed that she can't promise but she's going to take people's names and numbers and get back to us.

I wanted to go to the other store that was opening 30 minutes later to try there, but I didn't have time as I had to volunteer at a church event today.

Now I just got a call saying the manager drove a 50km roundtrip to another store and has put it on lay by for me to collect! :o

Amazing, she turned my complaint into a compliment.

  • Hmm if you missed out it seems like Kogan has the same one for a few dollars more…

    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-s4-4g-lte-i9505-1…

    • I9506 is a lot better same CPU and Graphic as S5.

  • My local Big W didn't have any S4s.
