  • awesome deal!

  • I was wondering, from before as well, what fees and charges apply? Terms and conditions are available on request. So what are the terms and conditions?

    • +3

One fee I was hit and remember is you CANNOT deposit cash to ETA without incurring fees. They have next to none branches and these branches DON'T handle cash. The only place you can deposit cash is the Aus Post which will set you back $2.5.

      • +4

what?? that's so silly! my citibank and ING don't charge for cash deposits via AusPost..

        • Yep. I second tooblue.

ME Bank DOES indeed charge customers for Bank@Post transactions.

          This is unacceptable given that:

          1. No other branch-less bank charges for Bank@post transactions
          2. NAB has a fee-free transaction account, free Bank@post banking and extensive branch network.

Basically, unless you are willing to make ALL your deposits and withdrawals electronically, you are going to cop fees!

Keep that in mind when considering whether or not this product is right for you.

        • Basically, unless you are willing to make ALL your deposits and withdrawals electronically, you are going to cop fees!

Not really much of an issue with withdrawals, as I doubt there are really many these days who DON'T make the vast majority of their withdrawals electronically.

    • Besides the original links:-

      http://mebank.com.au/media/312241/eta_fees_and_charges_sheet… (PDF)
      http://mebank.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/everyday-transac… (click on fees)

      In simple terms:-

      No monthy fee.
Tap & Go™ with MasterCard PayPass™ for purchases under $100 (5% off for 6 months if you meet conditions).
      Free EFTPOS transactions (Australia).
Unlimited BPAY® and PayAnyone transactions (Australia).
Unlimited direct debits and credits (Australia).
Free ATM cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at ME Bank, Westpac, Bank of Melbourne, St.George or BankSA ATMs (others will cost).
      Foreign/most other stuff HAS fees.

      • Ok, Under the "Terms and conditions for the ETA Refer a friend offer" bit it has fees and charges apply.
Then again in the "Important information about the EveryDay Transaction Account." it has fees and charges apply again.
So I was thinking there were specific fees for this offer. But, probably not.

  • Awesome deal.

I got this card in their recent deal.

Don't expect anything fancy as the app and online banking are incredibly simple but hey, does everything I need it to - don't need anything more.

  • Please do not ask for referrals in comments. Do not ask for PM, or point out your entry on the wiki page.

  • Forget everything below - where do I find my referral code to give to my new account buddy??!

    edit

Is this the same details as this recent incarnation of this deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171010 I wanted to get in on that but was unable to convince my referee to to sign up in time. From what I can see this is the same deal with no details changed except the expiry has been extended.

    • Apparently it is your account number. However, only accounts already opened before 16th December are eligible for this promotion.

  • +2

FANTASTIC! A 1995 bank that has more maintenance than NAB! Look at the primitive online "banking" run with 3 rubberhands and a stoned gerbil!

    • +4

      3. No more than 3 sequential numbers ascending (1234681357) or descending (9876281357).

      6. New Access Code and Confirm Access Code fields must be identical.
      7. New Access Code does not contain the form XXYY where X+1=Y (1122714253).

      • Is it for real or are you making it up? Thank God I can still use my old Access Code or I will have them reset my code every now and then.

        • it's 100% true

and don't worry.. you will have to involuntarily reset every so often anyway

    • +4

Sometimes my login/password will fail to work, and then miraculously when I try it a few hours later with the same exact details I will get in. Scary.

      • +3

I experienced that today.. yesterday it was working.. today I thought I was going out of my mind by seemingly not entering the same code I did yesterday.. consequently I tried other codes and ended up getting my account locked.. called them up and they issued me with a new customer id to go with the new temporary access code…………

        • +3

          Doesn't inspire confidence at all..

      • +2

        So it's not just me!
I tried to login with my password 4 times and locked my account. Called their customer support, they unlocked it without changing my password. Tried entering the same password again and this time it worked.
        This is really worrying…

      • +1

        Same thing happened to me.

I am happy to 'formally' call it: ME Bank has the WORST online banking service amongst all banks operating in Australia! Only some credit unions are worse.

For a bank which essentially has no branches, this is UNACCEPTABLE!

Rep, your employer will need to do A LOT more than offer cashback bonuses and bonus interest rates for a few months or the odd $50 'bribe' here and there to actually keep their customers and more importantly, keep them active & banking with you.

I love the fact that you are not as aggressive and greedy like the big banks and don't fund any fossil fuel projects but you really need to pick up your game to actually be a viable alternative.

In the mean time, both ING Direct and Citibank will simply keep winning over your customers time and time again.

        • +1

          Worst bank ever!

          But we'll take your $50's, thanks! :-P

  • +2

New users should note the delay in relation to their cards arriving in the mail. I received my card 2 weeks after the account was opened, so given this deal, I would only have 2 weeks to make the 3 transactions.

The delay would likely be magnified around this holiday period too.

  • +1

@MEBankScott I referred a few friends last month when the same deal was offered. They have all received letters stating their card will arrive within the next few days, but it's been nearly two weeks and their card hasn't arrived yet. Is there a delay with new cards due to large numbers of people signing up?

  • Did anyone receive the $50 from last month's promotion?

  • -3

Any chance of the promo being extended to December 23rd?

  • It's back! I still need to do the 3x$10 from the last offer. No deadline was stated for those transactions right?

    • +1

I think it was also within 30 days of opening the account.

      • Thanks, it is indeed 30 days. I opened on the last day so there's still some time to get onto it.

        • Good luck. I signed up on the last day as well, and they took 3 days to open the account. When I didn't get the money, I called up. First they stuffed me around, claiming no knowledge of the promotion. Then after I emailed them a copy of the page, they said I'd already been paid, which I double checked, and it turned out they were pass off the $50 I opened the account with as having come from them.
Multiple phone calls and emails later, they said that because the account was opened after the promotion ended, I wasn't eligible for the money.
ME bank is useless, and the people they hire to run their call centre are borderline retarded.

        • @outlander: Did you do the 3 required transactions? Also, I think you need to wait for about 30 days, which it hasnt been since the last deal, if you signed up on the last day.

        • @jaybmate:
This is for the last one about a year ago. Definitely did all the required transactions

  • I too referred a few ppl who signed up on the last deal & still havent received the referral bonus

    • +1

Have they made the qualifying transactions?

      • I'll have to check. Could u remind me what qualifying transactions they had to make?

        • 3 transactions witha minimum of $10 each within 30 days. THIS current offer specifies that those 3 transactions must be Paypass. I don't recall whether that also applied to the last offer.

        • @Geewhizz: Talked with a ME representative earlier today and he said that the transactions probably have to be withdrawals.

        • @Tasmaniac: 'Probably'? He can't give a definite answer?

        • +1

@jaybmate: He wasn't sure and then he said as long as they were Paypass and withdrawals it should be fine.

  • Has anyone checked whether those of you who made numerous referrals last time around are eligible for another 10? It would be a shame for referees to miss out because of such a loophole.

  • I had an MEBank account until around mid last year, then closed it. Would I count as a "first" account if I signed up again for this deal?

    • No:

Available to customers who open their first EveryDay Transaction Account (ETA) between 3/03/14 and 28/02/15.

    • +3

I would say go for it. I got their bonus savings interest rate a second time previously without closing my existing account.
Worth trying I reckon. What have you got to lose? Time? You were going to waste that anyway…
Unless @MEBankScott would like to chime in. In which case either way, I'd still say have a go! :-P

    • To be eligible, the referrer needs to be an existing customer, the referee (new customer) cannot have held an ME Bank EveryDay Transaction Account in the past or hold one currently.

      • I'd still say have a go! :-P

  • Has anyone received the $50 from last time?

    • It arrives 30 days after opening account.

      • I just got a Credit. Only got one so far; expecting a couple more soon

    • Got 1st $50 credit a few days ago, hoping to receive more

Anyone know what 'Fees and Charges' area associated with this product / referral? Cant find any on the provided link.

  • Post your bank account number (= referral code) online in the referral wiki! Gee thats smart!

    • What are you going to be able to do with an account number?

      • +3

        Deposit money.

      • +1

        Withdraw donations

        • +1

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realise it was that easy.

I guess someone has used his account details to make a donation on his behalf using the Charity's website.

In this instance, that person has acted fraudulently by stating during the transaction that "I am the account holder and I am the only person required to authorise direct debits on this account."

"The bank cannot find out who did this because of the Data Protection Act."

To trace this would require the charity to releasing IP details for the transaction to the Police. However, I'm sure that would be an easy trail to cover.

      • If you're not worried, just post us your other personal bank account details on here :-)

  • +1

Opened account in the last deal just got email "You're already getting $50 free just for opening your account - it'll be deposited into your account soon." so looks like the wheels are turning.

  • Emm… sorry, dumb question.

I am existing customer with ME Bank, where do I get the referral code to provide to a friend?

  • +6

Just checked my ME Bank account. The first $50 bonus from late November arrived in my referral account this afternoon. Nice.

  • +8

Funny enough even though I messaged most of my friends/work collegues (i've also appropriately placed my username/account # in the wiki) I've found very few ppl "can be bothered" or think "it's too hard/inconvenient"… typical of todays society; everyone want's easy money, free money, but let's not even use our brains and a bit of time to do something/figure things out…FORGET our bodies ; most of us are overweight and lazy. period. kinda drives me to the belief most people are conditioned into slavery by the system. I am happy to have finally joined this exclusive public community that puts time & effort into A) saving/getting a deal and B) sharing the info/resources so the little ppl can fight another day. Thank you :)

    currently experiencing

    Incorrect customer id/access code combination.

    LOL……..

    • this is ridiculous! it's been almost 6 hours since i posted this and my login still doesn't work on both the mobile app and website.

can any of you guys log in??

      • No. This is the third id/access combo I've had from ME Bank. They work a couple of times then don't anymore. Ridiculous. A branchless bank with no reliable online access. Closing my account end of January.

        • yeah mine still isn't working! this'll be the second time to reset my account. It's so stupid that they give you a new ID too.

    • same here

  • People I've referred don't want to stay with ME Bank because of the log in problems. Maybe they should have spent the money on fixing up their systems :(

  • open account on 19 december til now still havent receive my card yet and still need to do 3x paypass.

    • Same here. :(

Opened account on the 17th. If it doesn't end up arriving before the one month is over, I'll definitely be calling up to complain.

  • I had the same problem logging in

  • I haven't received my card yet either =|
Hope it comes this week. I can easily just paypass my purchases at the fruit shop and the supermarket a few times to meet the requirements but I'd prefer not to buy things "just because".

  • Opened on December 20 and no card yet. Also they locked my account for some reason so I had to call up to solve that. Happy to keep MEBank as a spare bank if I receive the card prior to the 20th. Not sure what's taking so long? Do they have so many customers? Big 4 take <5 days to send cards.

  • does anyone here receive their card yet?

    • I haven't received mine yet.

      • +1

call them up and they will resend you another one, also they said they put a note on my account to extend the 1 month pay waive period.

    • +1

I have not received my card yet either.

  • +1

    +1 no card yet

    • In my case the account is set up 19th Dec when I can already login to stare at the zero balance, and the card arrived last week, that is, more than 1 month away from the account setup date. Luckily I had reported missing card and my second re-issued card arrived 2 weeks ago, leaving me a few days to spend the $10s using the re-issued card.

  • Received my referral $50 today - did the 3 transactions on 24/26th December.

  • Received $50 for a referral account set up on November 30 and 3x $10 spending late in December.

  • I called up to enquire about my card. I did leave it quite late as I was expecting it all this time. They said it was sent out on December 21, the day after I signed up. How did it not arrive? Did it get lost in the mail I don't think so.. probably just an excuse they tell their customers for forgetting to do it. They're sending out a new one.

    • +1

I called up and was told it had been sent a couple of days after my welcome pack.
They said it was on their system as sent and they didn't know if they could extend the promotional period as it was not an issue on their end.
The guy I spoke to said he would escalate my situation so that hopefully the promotion would be extended and I have to say I will be pretty damn pissed off if they don't!

      • +1

Simply just close the account then in my opinion. Usually I just signup for promotional offers, but MEBank seems like a cool bank with the paywave discounts and the nice lime green card. I guess we'll see.

      • +1

Both mine and mums cards have come in very late!!! Get told they have sent them out and must have gotten lost in the Christmas mail and issues out a new one!!! This is to avoid having to pay the $50 as customers miss out on making their purchases within the 30 day time frame!!!! Soooooo annoyed

      • +1

It is 100% an issue on their end. I have not received my card either and many others also have not.

      • It seems like ME Bank have pulled the good ol' 'bait & switch' exercise on us OzBargainers.

I have heard similar reports from at least 6 other people where cards arrived more than a month after they opened their accounts online.

My personal experience is also the same. I've contacted ME Bank after my card failed to arrive more than 3 weeks after I applied for the account and was told the card was probably lost in the mail and they will cancel it and send a new one.

I asked them about what happens as far as extending the deadline to qualify for the $50 and the bloke on the phone said this is not his decision to make and I will be contacted by someone in the "promotions department" regarding that.

Not surprisingly, I haven't heard anything so far.

With regards to the card, about 5 business days after my phone call to ME Bank, I received TWO envelopes from ME Bank. One had the original card (which has now been cancelled) and the other had the new card.

Both cards arrived on the same day despite being sent almost a month apart from each other (as evidenced by the date in the attached letter).

To quote this kid: this whole promotion is a SCAAAAAAAAAAAM.

        • I imagine their promotions department feels the same way about our many applications!

"You're only applying for the $50, then you all leave….. SCAAAAAAAAAAM!" :-P

  • +1

Received my referral $50 today - did the 3 transactions on around christmas time

  • +2

Okay, so I am beyond annoyed.
I will be closing my account with ME.
I phoned them on the 16th of January to tell them I had not yet received my card and whether I could have the promotional period extended as the issue was on their end.
I was told that they would not be able to do this but the guy I spoke to on the phone told me he would escalate the situation and EXPRESS post me a new card. He also told me it was strange that I had not received my card as the system showed them having sent me one in December. He told me it was a problem with Auspost if I hadn't received it (hence why they apparently can't extend the promotional period, because the issue wasn't on their end).
Come today I have not received a phone call or e-mail from ME bank (I haven't called them back as I have been waiting to recieve my card before doing anything). Well I received my card in the mail..or I should say BOTH of my cards.
One dated December and one dated January. I find it alittle suspicious that I complain, they insist they've sent my card and then I recieve BOTH cards on the same day in the mail!
All of my other post has been delivered on time so what are the odds of this happening?!?
Anyway, I wont be trusting my money with this bank.

    • Interesting. So the package dated December wasn't express posted?

      • Neither was express posted (even though he said he would express the one that was sent on the 16th of January).
My guess is they realised they messed up and put both in the regular post last week.

    • Yep, I received both my original card and the replacement on the same day (after the promotional period). Will be calling up tomorrow to ask for an extension.

      • I will also be calling up tomorrow but tbh if they do extend the promotional period I will only be using it for the $50, then I'll close the account.
It's a shame, I was after a new bank account so I was looking forward to opening this account but I really don't appreciate being messed around so much.

    • Same story here. Received both cards yesterday. One express post and normal post sent on 20th Jan which is after the promotion period ended. Very annoyed. Spoke to a hopeless customer support two weeks ago to send me the card and was told the same Auspost story, but never received the card. Spoke to another friendly customer support last week and she said she will arrange the express post and escalate it to the managers.

Now I can't even login to the website and getting that weird error "Incorrect customer id/access code combination".

Totally frustrated and will call them soon.

      • I called up and had a firm but polite word with them about how this is unacceptable etc.
They will be crediting my account and the account of the person who I signed up to the promotion with.
We will see how they go as a bank since they are willing to honour the promotion and credit the accounts.

        • That is really a positive approach from the bank. I will call them soon and see what they say.
