  • Region locked?

  • If you mean DVD region then it yes it should be able to be unlocked. There are a few guides that show you how, just do a Google search. Mostly involves pressing buttons on the remote in a certain sequence.

Blu-ray region locking is a completely different kettle of fish. Not easily unlocked I'm afraid.

    • having read through several of the dvd unlock pages from a google search it appears that there's some serious mucking about to be done to unlock this player for region free DVD usage. I'll give it a miss, but good price on the deal though.

Just reading a few reviews and user comments on this player. A few gripes people have:

    • Player needs to be firmware updated to play some of the latest DB titles.
    • Player has no onboard DTS-HD Master audio decoding.
    • Does not have 'disc memory', so any disc that is stopped or ejected from the player will start from the beginning next time it is played.
    • Will not play MP3 or DivX / Xvid movies
    • Will not play burned DVD movies, recognizes the disc but says "operation cannot be performed on this disc"

Think I might give this a miss. For a 1 year old 2nd generation player. I would have expected more. There are probably other better newer players to choose from.

Good price though for a basic cheapie BD player

It's a little slow too, but not as bad as the BDP-S300. Good unit altogether, but with new, faster Samsung/LG units that can play back 1080p MKV files and support YouTube for about $300, I'd give this a miss. The BDP1500 for $150 is a great deal though.

      • I was going to jump at this deal for my parents. But thanks to you and g1234567, I was able to make informed decision not to buy. :-)

  • DSE have new model Sony Blu-Ray player BDPS360 + Ghostbusters Blu-ray bundle pack listed for $297.

Annoying thing about the dse website is if you copy the link from your browser address bar it includes some garbled code and only works for a few hours or so. This link should hopefully be fine though:

    http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/GH71…

…I sort of realised that you have to follow that syntax and just change the product code if you want a permanent link.

      Cheers, have updated the link!
