Death in the Fast Lane.
In late 1996 this top-down racing game took all by surprise with it's addictive nature and excellent gameplay.
In 2009, Remedy is proud to announce the free re-release, Death Rally for Windows. The original game, ported to run on modern PCs.
The basic idea behind Death Rally: win races, gather more money, buy upgrades to your vehicle. In between wreck your opponents, shoot your way through bystanders and keep the pedal to the metal!
Game requirements:
Any PC that can run Windows XP SP3, Vista or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). Please read the readme in the installation package for more information.
Not sure how good this is - but should be worth a try
-1 voteDeath Rally is just abandonware.
Go here for a whole heap of them including Death Rally:

Good memories of this game….
The abandonware game is the original shareware version (6690Kb). You can run it with DosBox Frontend Reloaded (13Mb http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/) which includes the latest DosBox already and will let you run lots of old games easily (Just drag&drop the zipped game file onto it and edit the game options are you please). Runs under Win 7 too (http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=681&letter=D)!
I guess the updated version (42Mb) offered direct from the publisher is the "full" game - They managed to bloat it up a bit though!
+1 voteFair point but 'abadnonware' is not always legal as copyrights do not expire that quickly. They are a very murky grey area, and still lean towards the illegal side of things. I fully agree with the idea though and it's infinitely rare anyone would pursue you for legal action but for arguments sake if you're playing by the book, it's usually not legit. IP copyrights don't expire just because no one plays the game or the developer has gone bust and you can't buy it any more unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I wish this were the case. So the developers website is doing it legitimately.
