1/2 Price Connoisseur 1L $4.84 / Sirena Tuna 95g $1.25 / Tim Tam's 200g $1.74 @ Coles (Starts 11/02)

1380

Sorry, but you'll have to take my word on this one as I have no photographic proof. Was at Coles around 30 minutes ago, and spotted the front page of the new catalogue next to the register. Asked the check-out-lady if I could take it, but she kindly refused and hid it under the counter. Memorised the Sirena & Tim Tam's then posted straight to OzB. Starts Wednesday.

EDIT: Thanks to imissbeans & tchi6 for the Connoisseur add with these comments.

Here are the current on-line prices:

@000lynx: my local coles limits the max quantity to 12 cans

        • @stevegates:
I am sure this info will be useless to 99.99% of people.. but The Barracks - Petrie Terrace Coles (Brisbane,QLD) is stocked out of the Chilli 96% fat free variety of Sirena Tuna. I was only brave enough to ask for a raincheck for a qty of 48. They informed me they would receive more stock on Wednesday.. i feel like i should be making several more trips to collect additional rain checks, or possibly adding a zero to the end of the quantity which was written down :P

fwiw .. Sirena has not removed the BPA risk from their can linings!

  • +3

Sirena is great, noticeably better quality. One thing to be aware of is that not all of them are pole and line/sustainability caught, the different flavours are sourced and processed differently so only some of them don't use nets (purse seine I think) - it's marked on the labels

  • Damn it … just bought 12 cans full price today :'(, needed me proteins.

    • Return them !!

      • +1

        Can you even do that?

Bought from Woolies; don't have the time or car anyway.

        • Returns without receipt are accepted at my local Woolies.

          @sween64:
What's to stop you making a living buying on special and returning at full price?

        • +2

@tonka: serial refunders are known to the staff, eventually they will pull policy on you

        • @tonka:

Nothing, if your time is that meaningless.

        • @thedude23: Makes no sense.

        • +3

          Dignity?

        • Return them to Woolies and go buy them at Coles.

        • @Tal_Shiar: Even serial refunders with receipts get increasingly frosty treatment in my experience. Policy says you can get a change of mind refund with a receipt so it wont help them, but they start asking for your drivers license, going over the returned item with a fine tooth comb, that sort of thing.

Of course if you have advance notice of a sale you can buy at full price now, do a receiptless return keeping the receipt, buy again at half price then return for a full price refund using the old receipt.

        • +3

          @tonka:

I once bought rechargeable batteries from Mitre 10 only to find the same product half price at Woolworths the next day. As I'd already opened the batteries from Mitre 10 I bought sale pack from Woolworths and returned it to Mitre 10 using the receipt.

Wow I'm keen to buy like 80 cans of tuna.

    • +1

I don't think there will be any left now, people above are buying boxes, pallets and truckloads. Good luck ;)

    • my local coles limits the max quantity to 12 cans. Now at least ppl will have a chance

    • I bought as many as I could carry first thing this morning. There were plenty of the "in oil" and "in springwater" varieties on an end display but limited stock of the flavoured ones.

  • Connoisseur 1L $4.84 Half Price
I am surprised no one has noticed yet. Someone beat me to it.

  • 175g Thins chips is still only $1.50 right now until Tuesday night. Excellent price! 9c cheaper than the usual low $1.59 sales.

Asked the check-out-lady if I could take it, but she kindly refused and hid it under the counter. Memorised these 2 and posted straight to OzB.

I know not everyone can get to ALDI but they sell this exact same tuna for around this price every day. When I say the exact same stuff as far as I can tell it is Sirena tuna rebranded. Same thing with the Connoisseur ice cream mentioned above. ALDIs's everyday price is around the Coles special price, possibly cheaper.

    • +1

I agree with the tuna, I buy their 'sirena' knock off (or rebrand), it's in a yellow/green tin and tastes exactly the same.

      • That's the stuff, tastes delicious. They also sell a cheaper tuna which is equivalent to John West, not sure if it's rebranded John West but it tastes equally as bad. :-)

        • +1

Is John West now using the Tuna it once rejected? (Nineties advert)

        • +1

          @FinanceDude:

I think they always have. I don't think fishermen could be bothered fighting bears for a single fish at a time anymore.

        • @FinanceDude:

I thought the slogan was much older than that.

        • +1

@FinanceDude: I think they've always used rubbish tuna if you ask me. :-)

    • +1

I'm a big fan of Aldi but i disagree re the connoisseur copy, it's not as creamy and tastes sweeter.

      • I'm not certain but I believe it is the same exact stuff rebranded. I had the cookies and cream side by side and couldn't tell the difference. The ingredients where the same and the weight of the ice cream was the same. The cookies and cream is lighter than say vanilla.

      • I agree, it tastes different to conniseur.

        • Definitely not the same. Been eating Connoiseur for over 20 years. Nothing tastes as good.

  • +1

    Thanks TA

I should thank peters for dropping the "Strawberry and cream" Connoisseur ice cream. This sale would have had me stocking up on those little 1 litre containers of health food.
Though I really do miss that flavour :-)
The Coles version, and the Sara Lea versions do not taste as creamy (So they may not be as bad for you).

    • +2

Sara Lee Peanut Brittle … is … too good :D

      • and Connoisseur murray river salted caramel !

        • +1

Cafe Grande has been our favorite for over 20 years. Still the same and still just as good. Been eating it since we were dating and last year was our 20th wedding anniversary. Amazing ice cream!

  • Jesus with the Sara Lee icecream on sale now at WW and this on sale from Wednesday i am screwed. as in fat :|

    Thanks Ozbargain!

  • :D connoisseur!

  • Just about time to stock up on those connoisseur since the last time it went on sale. Just wondering how fast do you eat your icecream? Last time i bought 3 tubs and finished them in 5 days, should i feel guilty?

    • nah, that's a bit slow.

  • Thanks. Got 6 tubs of my favorite ice cream.

  • the macadamia was not half price at the melb central store

  • :(excludes Zumbo Tim Tams. I was hoping to get the new flavours with this special.
