  • Oh beat me to the punch… just about to post this. lol

    • +1

Me too. I saw it advertised on tv last night but their website still showed the higher price. Appealing price for local stock and warranty.

  • Android™ 5.0 Lollipop - Whats that like? any significant change to kitkat or just a new skin and a new name?

    • +3

There are some nice UI tweaks and improvements.

    • +9

They basically took Kit Kat (the best version of android to date) made it look prettier (arguably) and made it harder to do all the things that were super easy on Kit Kat. They added many bugs whilst doing this.

    • +7

lollipop is worth it. I have it and compared to kit kat, battery life is better(project volta) probably get about extra half day out of phone with same usage. The way it handles notifications plus the design is cool. You can add users to your phone (haven't tried that yet) blah blah. Plus it feels faster. I run a nexus 4.

      • +1

Android 5 is a new system instead of a update, it bring Android to new level in regard of performance and security.

      • On my Nexus 5 battery life is worse with Lollipop

    • +6

The main changes for me were:

      • Notifications - they are heaps better in Lollipop. They can be fully read from the lock screen, and pressing on them takes you straight to the source application.
      • Low battery mode (< 15% battery remaining) - Disables a lot of bells and whistles and cranks down the CPU to extend the battery life. Dunno exactly how effective it is, but it's a nice thought
      • +1

        Low battery mode

Something that I need to use every single day. Damn I've got a Nexus 4 :(

        • +1

          Yeah I've got a nexus 4 too :)

    • +1

      Android 5.0 Lollipop

      • ART enabled by default for apps: ahead of time compilation instead of just in time (quicker)
      • Material design: kinda like the iOS 7/8 flat type of look, but it does have shadows and effects
      • Device sharing: was only available on tablets before, now available on phones
      • Battery saving mode
      • Camera app enhancement, Google Now (OK Google) no longer exclusive to certain devices.
      • Some consolidations / simplifications

While it is good in general, some of the consolidations / simplifications can be frustrating (i.e. putting each tabbed browser session as a separate instance in the task list (by default / changeable), removal of airplane mode and silence mode when holding the power button).

For me, I like Android because it has more features. I don't think simplifying Android is the way to go (it is playing to Apple's strengths). And the phone dialer and messaging (can't we actually have them so they can be used in the same way as basic phone easily - why do we have to be so heavily integrated to Google Search?)

    • which month will it get the 5.1 update (battery optimisations etc) though after Anrdoid One?

    • +1

The best feature is the constant memory leaks that make your phone slow and require daily rebooting. -_-

      • +2

Has all but killed my 2012 Nexus 7. Is so slow now it's beyond ridiculous.

  • +1

Motorola Nexus 6 32GB Smartphone good price .
But Note 4 is better with 18 MP Camera and expandable Memory option.. .

  • -2

Look like great spec but on the down side its appear quite chunky and the battery aint great either. IF your gona make a thick phone atleast Put damn good battery in it. 9.5hr on wifi..> Iphone 6 trumps that.

    • i went to jb hifi yesterday to see how big the phone actually was. It is actually quite thin and not much thicker than the iphone 6+. in saying that, still needed a bigger battery.

      • -3

It's 30% thicker than the iPhone 6 to put into perspective. That's noticable.

        • Noticeable, but hardly what you'd call a dealbreaker when there are so many other things that make a difference between the two phablets.

      • The curved back is actually really nice and makes it much more comfortable to hold, the thin edges mean the most, rather than the 'thick' middle.

  • Just saw a review of the flash ram on this, very slow memory type used.
In 6 weeks you'll pay, I admit - $300 more for a complete beast. The S6 is rumoured to be a monster.

    • +2

Samsung does have advantage in CPU right now, because of the 14nm semiconductor device fabrication node, compared to Qualcomm's massive fail with Snapdragon 810. That being said, I've seen some rumours which makes me cringe a lot in several forums I go to like:

      1. battery's going to be less than S5 (In terms of capacity)
      2. rumours about no SD card support
      3. it's going to be non-replacable battery
      4. leaked designs look awful (though there is a high chance that it's not the real one)

Though, they are rumours, so I am just going to wait til the release.

      • A smaller battery is not necessarily bad, since it takes less time to fully charge it. And if properly done battery life should be similar.

        • +4

Dumbest comment I read so far

        • If it is bigger, then we can get longer battery life.

It's just that, according to rumours they made the battery to be not removable and made it smaller as well. It would've been nicer, IMO, if they decided to make the battery life longer, not try to make the phone thinner while keeping the battery life relatively similar. Though this is just my personal opinion based on rumours.

        • @AznMitch: Agree, 6.91mm or whatever - I'd gladly take 7.3 or something, big damn deal, you know? :/
A poor decision, I hope the tech inside it makes it last a while regardless.

Similar to the PS4, it wouldn't be a noisy piece of crap (which I love/hate) if the idiots made it only 1cm taller and used ALL the gained space on better cooling.

        • @hamwhisperer: I do agree to some extent. I don't think this "width war" and "bezel war" is going anywhere other than we did it first sort of thing. I personally think both of those actually lead to weaker phones in a way, which some people really would dislike. Then again, it has become that unless you are able to distinguish your product in that way, it's hard to sell. :(

        • i'm going to patent a mobile phone that works only when you do the cranking motion while holding to it. No batteries needed :P

      • I know about the battery, don't care if the thing lasts at least a reasonable time. The no SD card support thing, I've never heard once, I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. I would be 'out' instantly.

        • +1

It's just a rumour. There were some that was saying that this applies to only the Edge model that they are going to release, but Edge model is going to have 128GB internal storage, etc. I don't know. I think it's ridiculous too, but that rumour sort of made me cringe and I thought I might share, since it's just a rumour, they are just speculations.

        • @AznMitch:
That SDCard rumour is sounding much more solid now :(

    • +1

      S6 has a 2600mAh battery :(

  • +4

Nexus 6 is dead in the water. The true next gen of phones will be announced in just over a week, I would only buy it if you know what you're willing to accept that it will only be "current" for 8 days…

    • What phone are you referring to?

      • +1

Not sure if trolling? Assuming you're not, Samsung's 'Next galaxy' event is next Sunday followed by Mobile World Congress the rest of the week where HTC will be announcing their next effort along with some surprises undoubtedly from Sony, LG and Moto. Lesser known manufacturers (Lenovo, ASUS, etc) will probably have something to show as well. Definitely worth waiting for before buying your next device.

        • +2

Lets hope its not another Galaxy 'Alpha' LOL

        • from personal experience, samsung's odd numbered phones are a much better upgrade than the even numbered ones.

        • +1

I'd disagree with that. I much prefer the S2 and the S4 to the others - aesthetically, at the very least. Software-wise, they were also better. IMO the S3 was the worst of the lot and the S5 wasn't a huge upgrade over the S4, so…

        • +2

Though, you only buy nexus because of the software support and XDA (+Bang for the buck decent hardware when it's released which doesn't apply to this one). Hardware wise, Nexus 5 is not current, but according to many people they like Nexus 5 more than some of the current flagships.

        • @AznMitch: true that.
          i have 2 sgs5 and a nexus 5, i would go for another nexus 5.

samsung has been very slack in updating the os… i want my latest and greatest updates now. :D

        • @slowmo:

Samsung's actually been one of the faster OEM's. At the moment, I think Sony's the worst (they haven't even announced their Lollipop update, let alone begun rolling out). Carriers remain the biggest roadblock to updates… even when they shouldn't have anything to do with it (looking at you Telstra, with my Google-bought Nexus 5 Lollipop update… ugh)

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: Sony announced that all Z models will be updated to lollipop

        • @zelda707:

Sure, but that's not announcing the actual update, that's just announcing their intention to update.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: Yeah, I think Sony and LG is faster with Lollipop, Samsung has been delaying their updates because of the memory leak issues with Lollipop, though I think they have starting rolling out Lollipop in Russia, and Gear VR support for Note 4.

        • @AznMitch:

I don't really know where you're getting that from. Sony hasn't released anything and is expecting a February release (which hasn't materialised yet). Samsung's already begun rolling the update out (since mid-January) to the Galaxy S5 and S4 and maybe the Note Edge.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: Huh, I apologise, I thought Sony was fast with Lollipop. Maybe it was during KitKat or something or I've must've gotten it mixed with announcement on which device is going to support Lollipop and the actual release.

        • @Poulsen8r Thanks. I wasn't trolling =)

    • +1

you talking about the nokia 3315?

  • Love this phone

  • +1

Think I'll wait for the new gen of Androids now. New models to drop from HTC, Samsung, Sony soon hopefully.

  • This phone is worthy still for the upgrades from the mothership.
Even these newly released phones will have the same issue as the previous flagship phones once the next OS update of Android 'Marsbar' (I made that up) comes out. However, all these 3rd party overlays are beginning to feel more closer to vanilla Android OS so the time for the upgrade availability may shorten.

  • -2

Too expensive for a nexus device not worth it at all.

    • It is strange that the Nexus 6 is twice the price that the 5 was on release. Sure its a higher speced phone. But the 5 was so well regarded because it was such good value compared with the other flagships.

      • +1

I know i was very hyped and was going to get the nexus 6 till i saw the price.

  • Crap, I just bought this yesterday from here for $100 more.

  • is this unlocked?

  • +2

Just finished setting up mine. Its a real solid feeling phone. Not the best spec for the price maybe. On paper note 4 is better but knowing it will always be the first to get android update is worth the compromise

    • +5

"Not the best spec for the price maybe". Since when did this become acceptable for an $800 ($870) phone? Not having a go at you, but if I pay $800 it had better be more than just average.

      • Since I know my phone will always gets an os update in the next 2 years. Most other phone doesn't get an update after one year.

        • Yeah those OS updates are rather sweet. I think the Nexus 6 is good value for money if you are looking for the latest and greatest from google which is future proofed for a few years. It essentially is a tablet at near 6" so you are getting a phone and tablet for this price. Pity Google didn't make use of this extra screen real estate like Samsung does with dual screen mode and such.

  • +1

Too big, and (even at this price) still too expensive. I'll hold on to my Nexus 4 (which has Lollipop now anyway and is running like a dream) for a while longer, hopefully it will last until the NEXT Nexus phone is released…

    • I'd hang on to my N4 too if it wasn't for the shocking battery life. Especially on Lollipop.

      • Hmmmm… Battery life on my Lollipop N4 is actually better than it was on KitKat…

  • +1

I suggest everyone research ART properly. And material design if you're bored. I follow this stuff very closely but don't listen to a mixture of different opinions just research it yourself. Lollipop is a great new update.

  • +1

Was excited about 4-5 months ago when it Was "launched". This just took too long to come to market.

    • +1

This just took too long to come to market.

      And too expensive.

  • I was really considering this phone or the iPhone 6 plus, but the comments don't seem to be in favour of buying the nexus 6 lol.

    • +1

I had a Nexus 4 and have a Nexus 5. If the Nexus 6 is going to be the same price as an iPhone, I am getting the iPhone.

    • +2

iPhone 6+ is $999 for the 16GB model! That's a lot more and even more if you need more than 16GB..

It is also 'just another iPhone' with no drastic changes other than the size. Speaking of size the screen is .5" smaller despite the device being the same height.

FYI, I favour the nexus 6 anyday :P

      • +1

Well, to be fair, I probably wouldn't get the big iPhone, so yeah, not a straight comparison. BUT I STAND BY MY ILL-CONCEIVED STATEMENTS!

Really though, at around $900+, it's all about the "experience", and I have to say, for me, the "Apple experience" is just so much slicker than Android or Windows.

Hell, I am using Yosemite as we speak and is light years ahead of Windows in terms of look and usability. Why? WHY?!?!?! No, seriously, why? It's not like these companies don't have $$$ sitting around. Why can't they make their gear/interface/usability as slick as Apples?

        • Fair points, just depends what you value more.

If you have a nexus 5 then you know lollipop and what it is like. Very slick experience on the Nexus 6, especially with the awesome screen and stereo speakers. Makes media consumption fantastic, if you ever do that on your phone..?

  • -8

All these 6" phones are just too big you look just plain stupid with it jammed into your pocket, unless you have the iPhone 6 plus in which case you'll be waving it around to get some attention.

Please feel free to click Neg and confirm your fanboy status.

    • +1

maybe if you wear skinny leg jeans

    • hah! jokes on you! i put it in my man purse, then my mrs carries it.

      • Lol :-)

  • Got mine today.

WARNING: This will not come with a Turbo Charger out of the box. You will need to send your details and invoice to redeem it from Motorola.
The details are on a tiny piece of paper in the box, so check carefully before chucking it out.

NOTE: You will need a Nano SIM, so unless you are side-stepping from iPhone most will need to get their existing SIM cut or replaced.

    Great deal overall.

    • Really I didn't realize that. I'll check it out. Thanks

    • Mine came with the turbo charger included

      • Turns out mine come with turbo too. Mine is the cloud white version though not blue

    • I received my turbo charger from Motorola, took a while but it came the other day. I'd hope they are pretty quick about it now!

biggest turn off n deal breaker for me is no sd card :(

I'm so over mobile phones, new releases & "flag ship" models claiming they are the best and then within a year or less, pump out another model without fixing issues from their previous phone or updating the android version in due time.

I found it crazy that anyone would buy a phone in the mid to upper price range that only has 16Gb or less of memory, no mSD slot or a fixed battery.
A good example is the Sony Z3 Compact or the earlier Z1 Compact in regards to memory capacity.

IMO, 32GB should be the bare minimum with lower capacities only in cheaper models.
In this day and age mobiles should be coming out with 64Gb option as well as 32GB for those who don't use much apps or storage capacity or to give another price point option.

All I want is something similar to the Sony Z3 Compact (size/waterproof/good camera) with a 32Gb & 64Gb capacity option and a strong call reception ( yes a Sammy Alpha owner :( ), good specs and good battery life and a mSD slot and a great screen and lastly will be around a while, not like the Alpha.
    Is this asking too much?

The sad thing is I will likely get stuff all for my Alpha when I sell it, if I do so, it's only about 3 months old.
Even if I sold it with the free watch (Gear LIVE) still sealed I would barely brake even :(

I guess I will be looking at a ONE+ONE 64GB or a Xiaomi in the near future, yes I know it's a big phone but it gets a lot of positive comments and it sounds like it's great for customization to get the best out of Android if I choose to
do so and the main thing is it's impressive specs, way ahead of the others brands IMHO.

    Sorry for my long rant.

    • is it's impressive specs, way ahead of the others brands IMHO.

      Hardly.

    • +1

In terms of value, I think you're correct. This is at least 50% extra. & the cyanogen mod 12S behemoth is due for Lpop-5.0 in the next week wooo yes.

      • hmm maybe not so great after all. Darn Updates delayed again to April. /

        'been excited for Lollipop since middle_2014. Another year later and more sdks on icecream or Gingerbread (4versions behind: 10% to 3% )-;

    • +2

Memory is so cheap yet all the manufacturers think its ok to skimp on it and charge an extortionate premium should you require more, a trend started by apple :/

      • @ stemcell
You hit the nail on the head.

When I said the O+O had great specs, I meant to say for the it's price at the time & compared to other phones that where around WHEN it came out, and I didn't say it was a "flag ship killer" or the best.

It is my understanding that the O+O was the first to come out with a 64GB option, I may be wrong about that, if I am then tell me instead of giving me a neg.

And now apple has a 128GB option (first to do so? & is ahead of the game/others).
Finally this is a step in the right direction, wake up other brands (Sony/Samsung/HTC/LG, etc.

    • +1

Have you looked at the Korean version of the LG G3? Seems to fit your specs. I have the G2 with 32GB but I'm not exactly a power user and have almost no apps.

  • +3

Grabbed my N6 off a iPhone buyer for under JB's price which is finally getting closer to realistic.. as really think it should have been priced at $699AUD but it's an awesome device, Lollipop on 805 3b gram stock 5.01 is amazing. Coming from a Z ultra / Note 2 / Galaxy Nexus. Couldn't be bothered with a manufacturer skin anymore such as Touchwiz or Sony.
While iPhone 6+ and Note4 better cameras and battery life could be better etc it's a dope device.. sure pricing and supply Google stuffed it up again, but would still take this over any other current "flagships" due to there being less compromises (take average action camera & battery life over cheesy O/S, slow/no updates) and prefer google devil i know than sitting on kit kat or gimped lollipop. (or many running lollipop on old devices running previous developer previews complaining about issues… lollipop sings on the N6)

  • Expired back to $876

  • +1

I +1 the deal because in its own right this deal is a bargain, but as such the phone itself is overpriced from Google's end.

Battery life is just passable, and for the price it needs to have more redeeming feature than just timely updates.

Note 4 with removable battery and SD slot would be my pick, or z3c if looking for something usable with 1 hand.
