  • where the heck is nadi ?

    • Fiji

  • Cheapest I've seen to Nadi has been $335 each way including taxes via Pacific Blue, good deal.

  • Incredible! Just booked for myself/partner $785 return for 2, doesn't appear to have CR card surcharge as well

  • given the current political relations with fiji, this probably doesn't bode in any Australians favor.

we can only hope sanity prevails and when the travel times come about, the climate/relations are better for all concerned.

  • Having lived in Fiji 5 years ago, and having traveling there this year, there are no safety issues going there. As long as one isn't travelling to launch a protest, you will not have any problems. These airfares are crazy!

    • agreed, the problems are political, they have no issues with tourists

      • I have family in Fiji and go almost every year. No problem for tourists to visit. It is a very safe place. All areas are good, and they treat foreigners with great respect.
Its just politics, and in fact, the majority approve of Bainimarama.

Anyway, great deal, just got to find a time to go

  • wish they do the same with bali, hate with their small airline. i prefer their virgin atlantic fly to bali as well. good service. i hate low cost airlines.

  • Does anyone have any more advice, recommendations or ideas about this?

I am seriously considering going to Fiji for the first time, just cause it's this cheap… I really do not see why not.

    thanks

    • It's a great place. The politics of Fiji shouldn't worry any tourists, its a lot of big talk at the top, but generally everyone is on Fiji time. Too relaxed to rebel, IMO.

      That's my interpretation anyway.

      • Ok cool thanks.

Do you have any recommendations where two mates aged 22 should go from Nadi?

        Cheers

        • Nadi is good for cheap shopping. I've usually stayed with friends at Rakiraki (north side of the island), that has beautiful clear water, snorkelling which you would probably find in most of the island except Nadi beaches.

Check out Robinson Crusoe Island (an island off Fiji). Best described as relax, do activities during the day (snorkel, fish, kayak, volleyball etc.), party at night. You'll never want to leave. And if you are single, this is a great place to meet international backpackers ;).

Depends what you are into. I didn't find there was much to see, just find a nice place to relax in day and somewhere fun to party at night.

          • @neil: Good tips from Neil. Not many tourists go Raki Raki but it is growing. Other places to suggest:
Mana Island - for water activities and relaxing. Great for families
Savu Savu - glorious place. About 45 min flight from Nadi. Expensive resorts though.
            Taveuni
If you want backpacker feel, there is also Beachcomber Island

Nadi (Denarau) is a great place to base yourself and you can go to any of the islands/resorts from there

  • Ok, thank you neil and mick.

Robinson Crusoe Island soudns perfect for my purpose.

And i will research into Beachcomber island.

how does one get around? like by bus? is it simple?

    Cheers

    • yea bus (mainly open buses) or taxi (it is quite cheap). if you want to go to the islands, the boat transfer can be a bit pricey (by Fiji standards). If you do go to an island though, there is not much "getting around" to do.

If you plan to stay mainly at 1 resort for up to a week, sometimes package deals might be best.

      • Ah cool. thanks again mick123!

With those package deals, lets say it says 4 nights, can we go to a different resort/hotel after teh 4 nights, or must we fly home after the 4 nights?

And for example, if we base ourselves at beachcomber island for a week, is it easy to travel to nearby islands, such as going from beachcomber to treasure island or to bounty island etc.. to explore them? or is that a costly time consuming exercise? thank you

        • With most packages, they are independent of each other, so you are free to do what you want after 4 days. Bestflights may also be flexible in the package if you wanted to add/remove days.

With the islands, I believe each island will have its private boat that goes from the mainland to the island. There are trips that you can do that island hop but IMO once you have seen 1 island, you've seen them all. The further out you get from the mainland the less amenties the islands will have (electricity, fresh water etc.).

        • from beachcomber you can go to a few islands direct or island hop. For prices, I am not too sure.
But like neil said, one or 2 islands should be enough.
I would say your best bet is to call Bestflights from the other post they did and you should be able to add on extra nights (at same resort or another).
I know some of my family, when they go, go on the package deal and organise it so they have a few extra nights in Fiji and stay with family.
